Your comments sound on target here, for it to be truly "dynamic" CPU/GPU load balancing. The article says it is "just an idea at this time" so I think the hardware was designed with that potential which is yet to be explored.

Even the 12" PB would outperform the current top-of-the-line 17" PB. And maybe the 12" model could also get backlit-keyboard?

Oh God... I really hope so... That 12" would kick ass! I'm off to sell my soul...

It is the future...I am just skeptical that the future is here yet at a decent price and performance. But I do hope this happens soon...

Think of something like this. Add video-playback (either on the device, or on the big screen), a bigger display, web-browser etc. etc. All tied wirelessly to mac via Airport, and connected to stereos and televisions around the house.

That Sonos really looks cool. Actually my house is wired, just never put in the equipment. So there is already a convenient place to instal the speakers.

I was thinking about the invitation while going to sleep last night (yep, I'm hardcore like that) and something dawned on me. The curtain in the background obviously looks like a movie curtain. Another word associated with 'movie' is 'cinema'. And cinema = Apple Cinema Displays

Maybe Apple is announcing something big that has to do with those. I know I am far-reaching with this, but you never know. I just don't get the whole idea behind the curtain... like someone else said, it could be movie-managing software. Ah, I don't know! I'm just speculating. :)

i would have to wash ALL my pants if this happens

Maybe, but all of this hardware is available for Apple to use and it would create a big splash at a press-conference.

Sales of the PB would go through the roof before Christmas.

Apple would market this PB for as long as there was a market and also debut the Merom Mactel laptop (no longer called a PB) late 2006 as an alternative to the G5 PB.

Apple likes to make splashes with portables! :D

Ibook

I want to buy a new Ibook tomorrow. Now I'm scarred of the event. Should I wait or buy now? Thanks

If you can wait til Weds, then wait.. Who knows what we will see!

So I think we can be, fairly, assured that the speed increases on the PB's will be slim and pointless, but what about a nicer feature set? A Sony-style high def shiny screen is tops on my list, along with size/weight reductions and larger batteries.

My Rev C 12"PB (a real lemon) is near death after around 18 months of use, so i'm looking to update, but if it's just more of the same, i'll wait until it just plain dies and go for the intels, like any sane person would :)

not to be rude, but the latest ibooks were released in July, which was what, 4 months ago? maybe in december at the earliest, but I seriously doubt it. ;) But hey, Apple has done amazing and unexpected things before, and this might be it
! a new wide screen ibook four months after the latset release-with a g5 and a gig of graphics memory and a killer graphic processor and a million gigs of regular ram and as trillion gig hard drive and a superdrive-who WOULDN'T want one for the low low price of $100,000,000!! :D we can dream, right? so i say buy now, you wont regret it!

Well, whatever you do....

I think waiting for any Apple product purchase till after Wednesday's announcement woud be considered logical.

thank you

I can tell you something. I haven"t even purchased a mac and think that the mac community is the best one. thank you guys

ibook

Some other questions about the Ibook 12".
-has it an internal microphone?
-what about the speed? I'm a law student from europe and I have a packard bell easynote d notebook whith is pretty slim and has a lot of speed, but windows sucks. The bettery's life has 2,5 hours (it was 4h).
-I used openoffice on it, an I had a french and german dictionnary, so that when I was writting on it, openoffice wrote long words automaticly when I tipped the 3 first letters. Does something like that exists for the os x?
-I need the ibook for 6-7h a day? what about the autonomy of the battery? I have no possibility to recharge it.
-is my packard better (512 ram, 40gig hd, 15"(it's to big for school, I want a 12" display))
I really want that thing, so I can give the packard bell to my father.
Please help me. I want to become a member of the mac community.

Yep. Take a look at the specs

Speed.... It is abolutely fast enough for all of today's Office work. Just don't expect it to play Doom 3 or play 1080p HD H.264 encoded movies.

We have OpenOffice for X11 running under Mac OS X. You can install X11 on any Mac. It is included in all Mac OS X install DVDs. If you want to run OpenOffice in Aqua (default Apple GUI for OS X) you can get NeoOffice . Ofcourse, M$ Office is avilable too... in many languages.

The battery life of an iBook is exceptionally good! Especially the 12" version, and if you swicth off BlueTooth you can get hours of fun / work with it. But.. battery is battery... it will get worse as time goes on. Just remember to calibrate it once in a while. Then you'll get the full 5 hour's work for a long time. I don't think any laptop will give you 7 hours of full battery power. Buy a second battery, that'll be the best option.

Ofcourse not. This is a Mac enthousiast site......
Just try to get 1 GB RAM in the iBook. You won't regret that. Mac OS X loves RAM.

I made the switch two years ago and have never regretted it. We are normal, tech-lovng people in the Mac community. However, once you join the community you must drink your Kool-aid everyday, swear allegiance to Steve Jobs and all things related to Steve Jobs. Then you must show everyone your new mac and wow them with all of the features that PC users drool over. Then they in turn join the community, drink their Kool-aid everyday and swear allegiance to Steve Jobs and all things related to Steve Jobs.

See how much fun we have?
