Mail.app works with Gmail, I don't have to use Exchange, and Pages exports to Word format. :)

I'm so glad I don't have to install bloated Office! :3

HUP Release in December

I'm hoping to get it for $9.95. :)

I see Office 2008 for Mac on the Microsoft's HUP site, does anyone think/know if they will offer Office 2011 for Mac with MS's HUP?

I too have been waiting for it to come out. I shot an email to Office for Mac Press (OfficeforMacPress@edelman.com), and got this back:

"Thanks for your question. Office for Mac 2011 is expected to be available through the Home Use Program in December 2010."

Cheers,

So many versions, well my campus book store offers the "standard" version, which comes with ppt, word, excel, and outlook for $85. Have to download it though.

For those interested, I emailed Microsoft this morning to ask when Office 2011 be available for purchase through the Home Use Program (where you can get a license for $10). Just got the answer back:

Thank you for contacting the Microsoft Home Use Program online store.

We understand that you would like to know when will the Office 2011 for
Mac be available through the Home Use Program.

The Home Use Program only offers the most current release of Microsoft
Office available to our customers; Office 2008 for Mac is still
considered the most current release for version of Office for Mac
computers to date under the Home Use Program. However, the availability
of Office 2011 for Mac will take place in January 2011.

We appreciate your interest in our products and your patience regarding
this matter.

Make sure it's activated!!!

When you purchase the Office 2011 for Mac make SURE that the store activates the PIN. If they don't (which is what happened to me at BB in Michigan) you have to return to the store for activation. MS WILL NOT activate over the phone no matter how much of a stink you raise. It must be done in the store or when you buy it via download.

I now have to go back to BB and get them to activate it (if they even know what the h*ll I'm talking about when I get there).

Chalk up another one for good ol' Microsoft. Very un-customer friendly. Evil, even. Well, it is close to Halloween.

So what happens if I do a clean install of OS X? Will the license I used previously still work on said machine?

Given the age of Exchange '03, I am not surprised. Simply put, Exchange 2003 was never built with Mac integration in mind and they are not going to re-tool it when they have released two versions since then.

The limitations that Office has are the same limitations that Apple's Mail, Address Book, and iCal are subject to - Exchange '03 were written to support non Outlook clients and ActiveSync was never designed for the Mac desktop - that's why EWS was written back when Exchange 2007 was being developed. MS decided to use a purpose built system instead of a bolted on half solution.

What's wrong with that is exchange 2003 is supported in ios so it is doable. Apple fell short not supporting it. I would have a Mac laptop today if it were supported.

Yes, of course, They install in different folders.

Thanks, and done.

The most noticeable difference is really the speed of launching. I am still missing the ability to 'embedd' custom fonts into your Powerpoint presentation (quite handy if you need to share your presentation and want to make sure it displays correctly).
Does anybody know if this is possible with Office2011?

Also Office2011 seems no longer to have a proper Uninstaller.

I believe it's two installs per license; atleast thats what my program admin is telling me.

It probably does that geeky network serial check as well, to make sure no one else is using it.

In regards to multi-computer copies...

check out the first post in this thread where it includes the links to multiple license copies.

3 Licenses- Home and Student ($129.99)

2 Licenses- Home and Business ($239.99)

(I couldn't figure out how I could post the url's linked to the text, sorry, just go to the original post)

Home and businesses pay more and get one less licence?

And what about the academic one?

Why does it always has to be sooooo confusing with these guys... do they have to always try to figure out a way to push people to get these off torrents instead of paying them....

In any case, three licences is passable, but this day and age when some of us have a couple of desktops (home and work) and a laptop, two isn't...

Well... I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks...

Amazon.com

I purchased mine from Amazon.com... It is the Student 3 Pack... Do I need it activated somehow like these Best Buy purchases? Will I be running into install/activation issues with my copy?

Also, these prices are amazing.

I remember when buying Office meant several hundred dollars. I can get Word on ALL THREE of my Macs for $130 today? Doesn't even seem real.

I'm hoping to get it for $9.95. :)

Why is Office 2007 no longer available for the Home Use Program?
The Home Use Program only offers the most current release of Microsoft
Office available to our enterprise customers; Microsoft Office 2010 is
the most current release.

I can't wait to upgrade from '08, but I need to be able to sync my calendar with my iPhone.

My Day

Manage your schedule and contacts within Outlook. See easy at-a-glance views of your calendar no matter where you access it—from the desktop or on mobile devices.

If M$ release a 'My Day' App for the iPhone then that would be awesome. Otherwise I'd like to be able to sync to the normal calendar. As soon as this is sorted I'll be making a purchase.

I've already posted on this, but I'll reiterate the point. Best Buy is having a company wide inability to activate MS Office 2011 for Mac. Their system will not do it. I wrestled with this issue all day - they even had me buy from bestbuy.com and do an in-store pick-up. Their POS system was able to let me buy it (I wasn't able to do so by just trying to buy it from the store) but although it appeared they were able to activate the software using this method - it did not work. I took it home and had the same problem as you. I took it back to the store and they were not able to activate it. I was told to come back tomorrow and hopefully they will have figured out a solution by then. We shall see what comes of it.

I really hate the fact that there is no 2 system pricing, WITH OUTLOOK for a reasonable amount of money. You want outlook, we need another 125$. You want it on your home mac and your portable, we need another 100$.

I was stressing about this as well and finally gave up and got the home and student version. Back in the day on my Thinkpad I actually really liked Outlook. When I first moved to the Mac fulltime for work, I tried using the PoS called Entourage and was happy when Exchange support came along for the Mac tools. Now, we've moved to Google Apps and IMAP -- and, while I have a desire to see a nice Outlook running on my Macs, I am not paying the uplift. $129 for 3 worked perfectly for me.

Mine will be here tomorrow home & business 2011 1 license for mac bought it at Newegg.

good to know, my sister's currently in canada and is getting a copy for me. I'll make sure she asks the guys and BB or FS about the PIN so I don't have any unpleasant surprises when I try to install it

I have had Beta 6 on both my Macs for the last few weeks, is this release any different?
I found the beta to be more than stable, so I probably won't bother updating unless something major develops.

A few questions

Hello. I own two Macs. I may buy one more. I am considering:

Office for Mac Home & Student 2011 or
Office for Mac Academic

Q1: Can I install any of these on all the Macs I own? Don't know if I can run the same program on multiple-machines at the same time. I probably run the program on a single machine one at a time.

Q2: Does the above apply to other language version? I plan to buy the Japanese rather than English version.

Q3: I got Office 2004 and upgraded to Office 2008 for free as I bought it few months before 2008 was released. I understand that Mac Home & Student 2011 does not include Outlook nor Entourage. Can I keep the old outlook and entourage while installing the 2011 version of Words, EXCEL and PowerPoint? Don't know if the programs are compatible with each other.

Q4: Is it better to manually uninstall Office 2008 before installing Office 2011? I no longer have the Office 2004 DVD and I do not have the upgrade CD for 2008 with me now. If I install 2011 and do not like it, there is no way of going back.

Thanks.
