I like to think nike makes enough money selling shoes for a $100 that they pay a $5 to make :p, i realize they cost money now I always thought they were free to be honest till i tried to join the nyc marathon earlier this year. I wouldnt have been able to run that far anyway 26miles is still to much i guess i will save my money for a challenge i can complete like a half marathon i can do that if i push myself not to metion the thought of wasting money will probably push me to finish :D.

Well, Nike didn't get to be Nike by giving away big piles of money.

Definitely don't try a marathon until you've done some shorter races. A half is a pretty good test of fitness, but a marathon is a whole different ball game. Read up on the training and make sure you've prepared correctly or it'll be a very long, very unpleasant day!

Congrats to those who did the "Human Race." I didn't go to an organized event but did run over a 10K... for whatever that's worth.

Gotta say, after a couple of months, I'm still loving the sportsband. Way more accurate than the nano (don't know why that should be so) and much more comfortable to run with. I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't listen to music all the time (I still have a shuffle for that).

I must've missed that in your original review, but I'm really surprised to hear you say it's still so... fascinating. I wonder why that would be also.

Mmmm, I'm wound up now from the run (mostly not, I guess, since I run at that time all the time) but more from the race environment and Fall Out Boy. And it's almost midnight. My GF and I are going to a beach about an hour away tomorrow so I need to get some Zzz's!

We had wonderful weather for the race. We were just a hair under 14,000 people, I think, and supposedly beat Austin out by a very small margin to possibly be the biggest site of the event, at least in NA.

Hmmm... no idea how many actually ran in London. There were supposed to be 20,000 but given the weather, not sure how many actually showed up! The floor of the stadium looked pretty full and that was only waves 1 & 2. 3 & 4 were in the stands.

I did beat Paula Radcliffe though by nearly 10 minutes. :D Although she did start at least 30 minutes after me

The only weird thing about the bands in London is that I've always found it odd to watch bands in the daylight - just isn't the same somehow!

My gate time was just over 46 minutes, so I'm itching to see if I actually might have slipped under into the 45's once the start time is subtracted (if the finish gate clock works like they usually do).

They did for mine although still think the 30 second difference between iPod and chip was due to the congestion around the start and when we actually started running as opposed to milling around!

Have you been able to see your official time yet, online? I swear, the Nikeplus website is the worst website I've ever seen. The flash takes minutes to load, and then it doesn't help you find any useful information (well, the personal NikePlus page is okay, but the Human Race page is ridiculous). You click on the Human Race part, and then there's a link to see your time, but you just get the leaderboard. I'm assuming one did not need to place in the top ten in their city to actually get their official time? :p

It was actually long dark by the time Fall Out Boy came on stage... I can feel the Autumn coming -- it's already getting dark here around 8PM. :(

Yes but I was confused since there were so many tabs. On the Human Race one, you can't just click the 'Show my run' option like you can on the Nike+ tab - you need to put your first name/surname in first. Then it should show up and tell you where you were in the city or by gender etc.

See, I figured that, but that whole thing seems to not work properly in Firefox 3 on Ubuntu. Grrr, the batteries died on my iMac's mouse, too, so I have to charge them (I haven't been using my iMac a lot). But honestly I have a fair amount of trouble with that site on both Safari and FF on my iMac too. You'd think that Nike would want to go out of their way to have the Nikeplus site work on Macs... you know, just sayin'....

So I remote desktop'ed to a Win2003 machine back in Florida. :D As much as the Nikeplus site is something you don't want to do in Linux or on a Mac, you really don't want to do it across a remote desktop tunnel! Official time: 45:36. Very pleased. :D

Thanks! :) I actually had the opposite experience... I like a few of their songs, and I even got them on my iPhone so I'd know the lyrics, but I wasn't expecting too much. And they blew me away. They had a great presence, even for a concert of maybe 100-200 people who really wanted to see them and a bunch of runners who barely knew who they were. I thought they were fantastic....

interesting. i'm glad you had a good experience. i still like them. which songs did they play? like mainly their newer stuff?

It was a mix... a pretty short set. They played most of the faves, like Dance, Dance, This Ain't a Scene, thnks fr th mmrs, Grand Theft Autumn, their Beat It cover, I think they finished with Sugar We're Going Down, and some I didn't know.

oh ok, cool. thanks for sharing your experience. when i saw them in concert, it just seemed that his voice had just given out. anyways, good job to you and everyone on the human 10K race. i missed out on it

My sensor is all over the shop. Last week I ran 8 circuits of the park plus to/from the house which I figured should be about 9.7 miles or so. The Nike+ clocked it at 11.43

This week, I ran the same route to/from the park but did 9 circuits rather than 8. Nike+ clocked it at 10.7 miles which probably isn't that far off except that the mile 'splits' are completely loopy with it tracking way slower than I was going intially and apparently not thinking I slowed down on the last 2 laps (which I'm pretty sure I did since they were hurting!). I know the park is just over a mile per circuit.

A question for you longer distance types. The run today was tough by the time I headed home. The half marathon is 4 weeks today - will I be able to tough out an extra two miles on the day? Should I just try to run the 11m as my long run over the next 3 weekends and keep my shorter runs/weights during the week?

hi, well im thinking of getting Nike+ and join this group and all but i need some good shoes to get and im wondering what are some good shoes that will work with nike+. Right tnow I have asics but I want to monitor how far I run and all so I need some help with my decision.

Thanks,
ChrisN

Get shoes that suit your feet and running gait foremost - rather than just considering Nike+ shoes. Ideally, go to store that specialises in running shoes since they should be able to get you in something that supports you properly.

If that ends up being Nike, then the sensor will fit in the sole of any Nike+ shoe.

If that ends up being Asics, Saucony, New Balance, Mizuno etc, then all you need to do is attach the sensor to your shoe. You can buy a little pouch to attach to your laces, you can stitch it into the top of the tongue but so long as it's oriented in the right direction, it shouldn't be any more inaccurate.

I find my sensor is always overshooting by a quater mile say i run a mile it says 1.25 miles its annoying but i at least know how far i run now

Yes, you should be able to hang on for the last 2 miles on race day, and I don't think you have to try to do the race distances or longer prior to then. I actually wouldn't suggest doing 11m each of the next three weekends. Definitely cut it down to less than that that last weekend before the race, and maybe even 2 weekends before. Keep doing your normal training during the week, but as you get to 1-2 weeks out, don't be afraid to take a day off, or shorten your regular workouts, if your body is telling you it's tired.

just to give ya'll a heads up, i might, just might decide to run 26.2 miles tomorrow, just for the heck of it. now, of course there will be pauses, and i would be running, jogging, and mainly walking. i hope no one has any objections. i probably won't end up doing it anyways

Thats more than i run in a week:eek: how do you run so much, do you do any weight training? I think if i ran anymore than did i would have no energy i sleep enough in class as it is. How do you guys keep your energy up i find i always falling asleep in class but when its time to lift/run whatever i am able to pump myself up to get through the workout.

um... Ok? I don't think that will be very much fun... but more power to ya.

haha. well, it's not happening. maybe tomorrow. food poisoning last night wasn't fun. :(

sounds to me that you aren't drinking enough water and your not getting enough sleep. just a hunch though.

well, there's clearly more to it than sleep and water. but i do lift weights, and when your running for a team, and have actual practices, you make yourself get thru it. i used to take naps everyday though. and i fell asleep in class a lot also. but i wish i would have gotten more sleep at night. would've ran better
