Hey, so there's match recording after all!

I wonder if the "about 3 minute" recording limit only applies when recording internally. I hope you can save longer matches directly to SD... most standard 4-stock matches I play take longer than three minutes...

When was any Smash Bros game "average"? It's an extremely high ranking series, hell other studios (Konami) came to them asking to get their characters involved!

So it seems like this is the wishing well of Smash Bros Brawl. Praxis, Megaman will be in the game. But you can't go to the ball :(

Well, where can they go with Smash Bros. after Brawl? How can they top what they're already doing with this game?

Now, who here would rather have Brawl toned down a bit so we could get another Smash in two years? I mean, they're packing this game to the brim with features and characters. Shouldn't they try to save some of this stuff for a future Smash Bros. game?

Hmm...I hope Doshin makes a cameo in the game. And Banjo, Chibi-Robo and the Pikmin, somehow....

How long have you been a Smash player? Nintendo only releases on per console. One on N64, one on GameCube, and now one on Wii.

We'll get the next Smash Bros game when the "Wii 2" comes out in another four or five years. We'll have HD and way, way better graphics I'm sure.

Banjo can't make an appearance, he's owned by Rare. Pikmin is actually very likely; either an assist trophy or with the captain guy playable.

I wonder if Sakurai will go along with making another Smash Bros after Brawl. If not, then I think we can expect Brawl to the pinnacle of the series.

This makes me almost want to get a Wii again. However I wonder how the play is going to drastically change from the 2 previous games. I was such a big fan of the games but I have a feeling in my stomach that it isnt going to be as great as the other ones. I will definitely check it out and the new site looks awesome!

Hmm, the character I was banging on about a while ago too...

Ken and Ryu would be awesome, if done right, Hal. ;)

8 players with 4 on GC and 4 on Wii controllers could be awesome too, like a tag match though.

... How else can you make this game better  everything that could ever make this game legendary has been announced.

Nice new character.

I'm hoping that the saved film feature lets you save any reasonable length to a SD card. Maybe we'll be lucky and the format will be something nice, like mpeg2 or mpeg4?

If so, that's worth the 2 month wait.

Woah, a character I predicted ages ago too!

However, as nice as it is to see I wish they'd stop revealing characters unless they plan to have tons more. I really like being surprised by "New Challenger Approaching!" :D

Replay data doesn't work that way! :p

That's part of my point. We only get one. If they didn't pack it so full of characters and features, we might get more in a system's life cycle than just one. But I also agree that this may be the last Smash for quite a long time. They might as well go all out!

Do you guys think the match recording will be like the screen captures in MP3? You can view the files and send them to friends but that's it...Yes, I know it shows the option of transferring the replay to an SD card...but is that simply for storage or will the file be playable on your Mac if you copied it there? I'm assuming the file format hasn't been announced. If it's something proprietary, I'm surre someone would eventually write a bit of software to either play or convert those files, anyway.... The replay data will not be an actual video file, will it?

Most likely the replay file will just be a list of the controller commands and characters involved. It makes for a small, efficient file format and since most people you'd be sending the video will also have the game... no graphics to encode since they have the graphics on their game disk, just has to feed in the stored commands rather than the commands from the controller.

Nah, why buy two copies of the game more spread out? And have to swap games to get different characters/features? I'd prefer it all to be in one place. I'll be playing this Smash for some time; let Nintendo cram EVERYTHING into it :D

I'll be curious how licensing will work out. Will Nintendo still be able to use Snake and Sonic again in the NEXT Smash Bros on Wii 2?

The files will be typical replay data; not an actual video, but a file that stores the location and actions of characters over the course of the battle.

It takes up WAY less space (it has to record where each character is, what direction they're facing and how they are moving/attacking at each moment in time; that sounds like a lot, but it's a LOT less data than an MPEG video that has to store 640x480 pixels for every frame) than an actual video.

It also probably means that you can freely rotate the camera during the replay :D Since the console is re-rendering it all.

But it also means that the replays have to be viewed within the game, so you won't be able to view them on a PC. No matter, I have a TV capture card.

Good side of that is manipulation too, hopefully they will let you pause or slow down the action and zoom in etc, a la Melee.

As for the series burning out?
I'd rather they put everything into 1 game than have 2 split up games released a few years apart. Let's worry about what they have left for Smash Bros 4 in 5 years time ;)

Here's a thought for you guys...
What would a Super Mario Galaxy stage be like?

Is it even possible with the current engine to have a sphere with gravity in the center that everyone can brawl around? Or shall we save that for the next Smash?

Something similar to Rainbow Ride perhaps? You just float around the planets on some magical thing and roam on the planets with flat surfaces?

I suggested that a number of pages back. I think it'd be interesting.

Think of the crazy combos some skilled players could dish out where they knock you into orbit around a small planet and intercept you as you come back around.

Lame. The whole point of Super Mario Galaxy is crazy gravity stuff!

But sadly, likely. I doubt the engine was designed with varied gravity in mind (considering there are attacks that move differently depending on whether or not you are standing on a flat surface, like Falcon Kick), so they'd probably make it like Poke Floats with planets floating around.

GENIUIS!
