I can imagine it would work with local+local+online+online.

Either way we should request it here and see it get added or confirmed ;)

But going back to the update; it annoys me when people drop out of games. Hopefully the AI can match the previous players style to make the switch quite seamless, maybe even saving the AI and using it to "teach" itself how to play better. Oooh, morphing AI. Welcome to the Matrix and that.

Bosley sounds hot.

Good call on the player rotation too. We used to just run it as "play till you die in RL" and then one of the alive players would take your place. Who would have probably been asleep.

This week seems to be all about menu options. These are some very nice upgrades to the old menu system.

Hooray for Mario Kart! We knew it was in already, but it's nice to see the details. The course map in the background is awesome.

Noooo I was hoping Waluigi would be playable as a sort of antithesis to Wario.

And why does that star chap look familiar?

Looks like Coin Battle is back.. I never did like that mode. Looking at my "logs", I've only played like 50 battles of it and thousands of the regular....

I hardly touched Coin Battle.
I love the focus on co-op though! Please have it in multiplayer...:D

Finally. Someone agrees that they're packing too much stuff into this new Smash game. It would be better to keep the game simple and leave out all this extra stuff. I totally agree with you (for the most part)....

I don't really care for coin battle either but if it's there, I'm not going to complain. I think they should work towards making the best online experience available.

Why is this a bad thing? My problem with fighting games (and general dislike of them) stems from the fact that there's generally not much to do. Single player usually consists of "fight each character once to win" and is very short. Most fighting games essentially come down to "beat the game in twenty different ways to unlock everyone".

Adding more modes, co-op, event matches, online play, etc is all welcome! It'll keep me playing the game alone and with friends for much longer. My only complaint right now is that there's only 25 characters shown. I'm hoping for forty. But I hope they keep most of the characters secret so I can be surprised when I find them!

If you think they're adding too much...where's voice chat? :p
(EDIT due to writing "co-op" instead of voice chat)

Melee was rushed for GameCube launch and it had so much in it. Brawl has been in development since 2005 and they had the already built Melee engine to build on top of- they've had plenty of time to perfect all the features.

Hey now, I'm looking forward to many of the new features. Heck, I'm really looking forward to putting the beat down on all of you guys in online matches! In fact, I highly suggest that you all start preparing yourselves, now, for the feelings of defeat. Because that's all you'll experience when you face me. :D

How would co-op work in Smash? Co-op in battles? I've never heard of co-op in a fighting game before....

As for characters, one of the many things that I really enjoyed in Melee was the surprise in getting secret characters. Unless you cheated by looking online or in magazines, you never knew when you would get a secret character or what you had to do to get them. I hope it's the same way with Brawl....

I'm with Praxis. Other fighters have tried to add features, notably Mortal Kombat and have just been poor games. Beauty with Smash Bros is the flexability of the engine and that it's a platform fighter. A co-op adventure/event mode would be fantastic and suit the formula well since it already bears similarity with Streets of Rage/Turtles and the likes

"a game for couples" is music to my ears :D

I'm rather enjoying the trickle of updates. I too hope that the majority of playable characters will be withheld from the site. As someone who didn't play Melee until 2004, it'll be fun to work through the game and discover characters as they pop up. Even back in the N64 version, Nintendo Power told me who the secret characters were and how to get them .
