What if I only want to unlock the phone?

Do I have to jailbreak first and then download a different program, or is it possible to simply unlock my iPhone without adding any other software to it?

I'm on an iPhone 3GS, running 4.0.1

iphone4 4.0.1... jailbreak went smoothy, installed cydia, bitesms, sbsettings, lockinfo with weathericon, mywi, rock. Nice

I did lose facetime and MMS... but I know nobody who uses facetime and I rarely use MMS... I'm sure a patch will be released shortly. WELL worth having access to cydia to temporarily lose those features.

awfully buggy...mine crashed a few times and went into safe mode. tried to install lockinfo when this happened.

Mine did the same thing when I tried to install Status Notifier. Ended up uninstalling that while in safe mode and respringing, and now none of the themes I've selected in Winterboard will apply themselves.

Everything is the same except you can do MORE. The only thing you can't do anymore is take it into Apple and ask for a replacement phone if you have some hardware break/fail, you have to un-JB to get Apple to service it. It's worth it if you like doing fun things, in other words, its a matter of opinion, try it, it's so easy you can't go wrong, just restore your phone to a backup if you don't like

You have heard of websites like Google and YouTube and that those websites have places where you can do SEARCHES! OMG!!

So sad the lack of knowledge and effort people have anymore or actually absence of.

That has to be one of the most impressive websites ever created... Litterally uploading to safari editing the iPhone os and jailbreakibg it successfully... No tethering nothing... These guys are incredible!
