If apple can't supply enough, maybe apple should build up a supply instead of rushing them for September. Start selling in October.

It wouldnbe nice if things were actually that simple. The issue with this is that we often don't have supplynfor months. So we are taking an October release and yet it's not uncommon to have constraints well into the holiday. So then does Apple sell everything in January? How far do you keep pushing.

There's also delivery to consider. It's one thing delivery 50 million phones over many months. It's another thing entirely attempting to deliver them all at once.

Yeah, I hope Apple doesn't fracture the iphone line by adding a "Pro" model like they do with the ipads. Just the idea of a Pro phone is so annoyingly pretentious. If anything, I think Apple will justify the higher price this way...they will release the iphone 7S along side a special one off model they'll call the 10th anniversary iphone. That will justify the insanely high price. It's features that are a big hit will eventually find their way into the iPhone 8 in 2018. Just a theory.

Whenever I see someone with an Samsung Edge, it kind of looks weird to see the display extend around the bezel. Seems to have no purpose at all? It appears to exists only because it was rumoured that Apple was working on curved glass and Samsung wanted to be first? Funny thing is, Apple's curved class only ended up at their new campus..
Edge devices exist only because consumers want them. Apple has nothing do to with it. At all.

iPhone 8 => 2018
iPhone 7S => 2017

Prepare yourselves for epic disappointment.

Just read the article people, the rumors for this iPhone 8 are like a pipe dream, no way Apple over delivers. It's going to sell 200 "something" million regardless, why put all your eggs in one basket? Plus, we all know how generous Tim Cook is...

Because Apple fans on here do the same thing every year... claiming Samsung copies Apple, and no doubt they'll claim Aplle has made a screen with curved edges better then a Samsung even though Samsung will have made the thing!
It doesn't matter who's first, what matters is who makes a better product.

If your not an Apple fan, why are you on this board?

So we're talking potentially 4 different model iPhones, each one with slight differences between each other? The 4" model with previous generation specs, a 5" model with the standard camera, a 5.5" model with the dual lenses, and a 5.5" fancy-OLED?

We're just moving further and further away from my dream of a top of the line 4" phone.

...sources say.

So here we've got a mac rumors site quoting a Korean rumors site that states "sources say".

Rumors quoting rumors quoting rumors quoting BS.

I guess that's what rumors are.

Curved as in pre-bent?
Flat is beautiful and thin, curved will make it thick and fat.

Give it Apple pencil support in a completely arbitrary design decision. Worry not my friend.

And it won't even include one USB 3.1 port. That's too 2016.
No, it will have NO ports or mic or ear piece. Bluetooth will be required!
2020 model, no screen!

OLED = oversaturated unrealistic images, possible burin-in issues, and terrible battery life when used with anything other than dark colors.

Curved edge to edge display. Already been done. Nuff said

Samsungs version of edge to edge is quite shoddy compared to the competition. Samsungs version literally goes off the edge, which is a bad design concept. Take sharps example below of what Iphone would more closely resemble (which coincidentally matches the curved glass that the IPhone 6, 6s, and 7 already have)

I'm sure that all the phones they are woking on right now are all Prototypes.
Nothing has "sticked" at this early juncture.

Yes but apple had a patent for curved display first meaning they had to the idea first. But of course Samsung been Samsung rushes out the product to say they beat apple. Same goes for the smart watch.

Samsung take a note. You have to wait with copying , so nobody notices.

edit: lol. Some people couldnt see the humor. Let's explain the joke(worst thing when you have to explain it , making it unfunny)

It means Apple copies Samsung this time and nobody notices because it took them long to make this decision, unlike Samsung who copies immediately. Samsung is the leader on mobile OLED Displays and they even have curved models like their edge models, since November 2014 (Note Edge).

Since its release they keep improving the curved desgin and its functionality with apps and notification bars (I personally like the Knight rider one, when your phone is layed down on the table with face down).

So I am saying again. Samsung, if you copy you have to do it Apple's way (although Apple prefers to steal , since they are great artists / quote: Steve jobs)

So the plastic display screen + glass will be thicker? That doesn't seem good.
I think you may be a little confused. OLED substrate is thinner and lighter than the LCD substrate. The Gorilla Glass cover glass has always been there regardless of LCD or OLED. You've never touched the previous LCD screen. nor, if rumor is true, will you touch the OLED screen.

I dont care about patents. I care about someone having the courage and releasing a product that is new and innovative and keep improving the idea. That is what Samsung has done with the curved displays.
Some people who have a different understanding of courage like it rather being the removing of existing features, might have a problem understanding this. But honestly I dont care about these folks, I just say:
Go step over your non-existent MagSafe.

From @kdarling post in S8 thread on 12/8. Much easier than trying to retype and take unwarranted credit.

"Well, no.

First off, the iPhone 6 curved glass rumor started in April 2014.

That rumor came over a year AFTER Samsung showed off this curved display prototype at the January 2013 Consumer Electronics Show:

The 2013 prototype's display curve excited CES visitors so much, that Samsung later released it as the Edge model. The original design had nothing to do with any much later iPhone rumors.

Not to mention that the later Apple rumor was reported like this:

--------------------------
Rumor: Apple's 'iPhone 6' may sport curved edges, display glass

Citing a "trusted source," Japanese blog Mac Otakara reports the so-called "iPhone 6" will sport "rounded" edges and a curved display glass much like the design seen on Samsung's Galaxy S III.

Yes, that's right. It was originally a rumor that in 2014 Apple would copy Samsung's 2012 design which had curved front glass two years prior." - kdarling
