I can't return a Kindle bought at Target? Are you sure? Can I return it to Amazon???

no you had to have bought it from Amazon to return it to Amazon but Target may charge you a restocking fee (or only allow exchange)

Best buy is easier especially since they no longer charge a restocking fee but they do keep track of your returns (for those who abuse it)

Technopimp, You Have A Point...

I can't believe I'm saying this because normally this would probably be the type of thing I'd consider doing, but doesn't anyone else think buying a Kindle/getting the code/returning the opened Kindle/using the code to be rather unethical?

Yes indeed. Thanks for reminding me. I had been contemplating doing something that I have not done in the past.

I feel like most people who are spending all of this time trying to figure out what hoops to jump through to make this work would be better off just buying a code on eBay for $40. Surely your time and gas is worth more than that if you don't really want a Kindle.

Do 15in MacBook Pro's from Amazon come pre shipped with Lion, and Lion keyboard? They just ran out of stock and it's a 1-2 month ship time so maybe new stock? I've become accustomed to the keyboard already but no biggie, just wondering. :)

If it's new stock then it will ship with Lion and a revised keyboard.

redeeming the code ends today at 11:59 PM, not yesterday night

and the promo code works till the 8th of next month

Technically you can still get a code from someone that has already redeemed the offer (e.g. eBay) and use it to make a purchase before September 8.

Has anyone actually purchased from eBay and had it work? I thought the terms of the offer said the code had to be redeemed and claimed under the same Amazon account. That is something that is very easy for Amazon to check. Amazon may not be able to prevent someone from returning a KSO but they can easily prevent someone from handing it to someone with another account.

I mean, believe me, I've exercised the liberal return policies of Best Buy/Target/etc in the past, but I try not to abuse and would NEVER return something after having "stolen" (although that word is rather strong) something. Yes, I've purchased laptops and yes I've returned them opened if they did not meet my needs, but to me this is really pushing it since you're essentially taking something for nothing from Amazon, and also forcing a store to take a hit on the opened item that you're returning for no reason.

I bought a Kindle with the intention of getting the code and using it, but I never once considered returning it opened. I have no use for a Kindle so I was either going to give it to my wife or sell it. As it turns out, I decided against the whole thing so I WILL be returning it, albeit still sealed in the box.

I agree with your statement. It seems unethical for people to be doing this. Its the type of behavior which causes a company like Amazon to pull offers like this in their entirety. Don't mess it up for the rest of us.

I bought the Kindle because I had already had my order for a MBA into Amazon. With the offer I saved money on my computer and got a free Kindle. BTW the Kindle screen is fantastic and I enjoy reading on it much more than the iPad.

Yep. Screw over a retailer for your own selfish gain; they can't sell the used Kindle as new once someone's opened it. Will it make any difference to the retailer's bottom line? Likely not. Is it still slimy to intentionally abuse the return policy? Yes.

Buy a code on ebay or sell the kindle as like-new-in-box on ebay or craigslist or something.

I kept my Kindle. Just couldn't seem to take advantage that way and return it to Best Buy. So I will try it for a while and then sell it if it is not useful to me.

Just to clarify, could one still buy a kindle from BestBuy and get/redeem that code today, or did it have to be bought/redeemed previously? Thanks.

I followed what you guys have mentioned and bought a Kindle from target yesterday. I got the code but I am waiting for the MBA 13" base to be available.
I wonder how often do they refresh their inventory.

I bet inventory will be refreshed this week once they get more macbooks in. I think they are so backordered that the item was removed. They probably had a lot of orders placed over the week.

That's what it seems like to me. If Amazon wanted to remove them entirely, it would've pulled all MBAs instead of just the base models of each size.

The base model 13 wasn't even listed on the qualified laptop list when the deal first started. Now the base 13 isn't even listed on Amazon. I am sure its going to be back soon. I was able to get one before they took it off. The 256 model is still a great deal.

I am going to return the one I got only because my dad wants the 3g model. I don't think I will exchange it because tax free from Amazon seems better. In addition, now that I don't need the kindle immediately combined with that the only reason I didn't get the 3g model yesterday was because the salesperson mislead me I don't feel that bad.
