My 2007 15" MBP's motherboard broke this weekend. I happened to buy my fiancee's mom a Kindle for her bday and came along this thread this weekend. Thank goodness I did! I ended up selling my 32gb ipad 3g for 700.00 and decided to go with the 11" macbook air 4 128gb. It took me a whole 2 days of deciding if i should go with an 11 or 13 and I ended up with an 11 at the end of the day. Luckily Amazon still had the 11" in stock. Hopefully I made the right choice in choosing the size.

I went about my size decision by having the
2011 27" imac as my main.
Needed something to replace both my MBP and ipad2, so i decided on the 11" which will replace both.

Hope I made the right decision.

My 11 inch MBA, 4/128, ordered Friday afternoon, is out for delivery this morning. Super excited. I am a total newbie, have never had an Apple product before.

Lucky you, I ordered my 11.6 4/128 on Thursday and it still isn't shipped although they have upped the shipping date from Sep 1-22 to Aug 15-19. So we will see!

If you are new to Apple from the PC get one of the books on switching, it makes it easier when they tell you what the PC command is in Apple terms. You can use your new kindle for that. I got a $2.99 book was was great.

What are you guys going to do if you get a Toshiba SSD in your MBA? I have heard the Samsung SSD outperforms the Toshiba SSD.

i ordered an 11" 4/128 mba saturday afternoon with an initial shipment quote of aug 31-sep 16. thankfully, it's now due to arrive friday.

You 11" guys are lucky that amazon is updating your shipping information; haven't heard a peep out of them in regards to the 13" airs. Hopefully they'll have updates for us too by the end of week.

Please point to where it's been shown that there's a true difference in real world usage between the Toshiba and Samsung. I've seen some benchmark differences posted, but nothing suggesting a noticeable difference to anyone but the most OCD spec-hounds. IMHO, if you're coming from a moped who cares if the crotchrocket A maxes out at 187mph vs crotchrocket B maxes out at 183 mph? :)

I think the point many people are making is that they would like to think they're getting the best hardware that was available to Apple (at the time of their MBA purchase). Granted we're talking only a few second difference between the SSD chips, but I'm sure everyone would take the faster mem if it was offered to them at check out.

I heard it's a significant difference.

This thread is about Amazon / Kindle 20% discount . There are other threads already discussing Toshiba vs. Samsung and LG vs. Samsung. Do we need to have that argument here too?

Get back to Amazon. Who has bought one. Who has revised deliveries? Who has had theirs ship, etc, etc?

I'll be returning/exchanging till i get a Samsung SSD and Samsung LCD

You're going to be paying an amazon restock fee every time.

Apple is not going to swap because you don't like the oem of whatever component... maybe the screen if you can demonstrate flicker.

I got my 11.6 4/128 yesterday and it came with a Toshiba SSD. I'm going to keep it though. It doesn't really matter to me.

Not necessarily. Obviously my excuse will not be that want to exchange because i want a faster component. I will just say I am experiencing a wi-fi issue or some other issue with my MBA that is not easily reproducible for them. They will not argue, the customer is always right.

I'm not really caring about the SSD model. I just hope Amazon will have the base MBA 13 available to order before 9/8 so my coupon can still work...

+1 Agreed. I ordered my 13" on August 4th (before the coupon frenzy) and have not heard any updates.

Thank you.

Just ordered my 13' MBP for 922 (including shipping) and, since it was in stock, the delivery estimate is August 15! This is my first apple computer so I'm very excited. Thanks to the OP and others for pointing out the deal so that so many people could enjoy it! I, and on behalf of others who've purchased a Mac for such a huge discount, really appreciate it!

Amazon does not have a restocking fee. Their policies are clearly stated on their help page. You have 30 days to return a computer for any reason and there's no restocking fee.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_901888_prod_ce?nodeId=901908

As I noted earlier in this thread, Amazon customer service e-mailed me and clearly stated that an open-box return that is not defective nor the wrong item due to Amazon's error has a 20% restocking fee.

Mr. Coxner can refer to the online return policy all he wants, but it is apparently incomplete. Amazon responded to a specific query on this issue and was very clear regarding its return policy. Note that when returning a computer for an exchange or refund it must be in "new" condition according to the table at the link. As far as Amazon is concerned, once it has been booted-up the first time it is no longer considered to be "new."

I have personally bumped into the restocking fee regarding a portable Mac ordered from Amazon in the past. At that time there also was no restocking fee noted in its online return policy. Amazon would not budge from its return policy.

Unless someone contacts Amazon and receives a different reply, one should assume that returning something that is not defective or shipped in error will incur a 20% restocking fee.
