Not really much of an update...but I chatted with a rep today and asked if they had any further info on my 13"/4GB/128GB (MC965LL/A).

Here's what I got:
I've checked your order and can confirm Apple MacBook Air MC965LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop is now back-ordered. I'm sorry about this delay--we certainly didn't expect this would happen.
I want to make sure your order gets to you faster once we have stock. To help make up for the delay, I've upgraded the shipping method to Standard Shipping at no extra charge.

I originally had the Free Super Saver shipping, so not much of an upgrade, but it's still a nice gesture.

Unlike others who had suggested I would be "moved back" in the queue with a change in shipping, I gained a couple days. It bumped my delivery date from Sept. 1-21 to Aug. 31-Sept. 19.

The rep's name was Shobana and she was by far the most friendly and helpful rep I've talked to.

I am just gonna wait until the end of august for my mba if i dont get it i will downgrade to a 128gb model for 1350 with taxes from best buy and they will give me 18 month financing as well

Cant wait any longer...

This shipping status on my 13/4/128 has changed to shipping soon. I'm using an 11 MBA in the interim while waiting for the 13 and now I'm not sure what would be better for my needs. The 11 is so portable. This computer won't be my primary computer. Decisions.

Ordered on Aug 1, before the flood of orders due to the KSO discount. I had the discount later.

Nice. At least we now know they're slowly fulfilling orders, and are only a few days away from everyone who actually started ordering on the 5th.

Soon boys, soon. :cool::apple:

i got really excited when i saw that in the morning. however, that link is for the laptops that amazon.com is selling.. not necessarily the ones that are valid with the Kindle special offers.

Hmmm... I tried the link from the first message in this thread and 11 Macbooks showed up - including the new MBAs except the base 13". Give it a try...

Just read the slickdeals thread. So annoying that those of us who want to actually use/own MBAs are waiting while bunches of those guys are buying them and flipping them for a $200+ profit on Craigslist. :(

They may not be breaking any laws, but dang. Talk about abusing a deal.

+1

Yes. Unfortunately, it's hurting those of us who really plan to use them. I am without a notebook right now because I sold mine ahead of getting my new MBA. I can't do much work now when I'm away from my iMac. Oh well, I'm just venting as I wait for the magic email from Amazon...

Got tired of waiting and chatted to a rep. Here is the transcript-

ChatEnd ChatYou are now connected to Syed from Amazon.com.
Me:Hi, Good Evening.
Me:Sorry to bother you, I was waiting for my order and was wondering if you had a date for the shipment?
Syed:Hello, my name is Shahid.
Syed:I'll be happy to help you.
Syed:Can you please provide the order number?
Me:yes
Me:Order # is 1234567890
Syed:Thanks for providing the order number.
Syed:I've checked your order and can confirm Apple MacBook Air MC966LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION) is now back-ordered. I'm sorry about this delay--we certainly didn't expect this would happen.
Me:I assumed as much
Me:Amazon is not usually like this
Syed:The availability and shipping times listed on our website are estimates, not guarantees. Unfortunately, unexpected fluctuations in our inventory occasionally happen, and that can add time to our original availability estimate. I know it's frustrating when that happens, and I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.
Me:I was wondering if you had an estimsted date for delivery?
Syed:To help make up for the delay, I've upgraded the shipping method to Standard shipping at no extra charge.
Me:estimated*
Me:Wow! Cool
Me:Much appreciated
Syed:I checked and see that we expect to ship this order by September 14 so that it will be delivered to you by September 21.
Me:Hmmm
Me:That is long wait!
Me:Is it possible that I can pay the differnece between your standard delivery and 1 day delivery so that I can get it as soon as possible?
Syed:If this order arrives too late to meet your needs, you're welcome to cancel this order.
Syed:Let me check.
Me:Its ok..
Me:Amazon is a great company to shop with
Me:I would rather buy from you than some other company which ships faster but gives unpleasant customer service
Syed:If I upgrade the shipping method to One-Day Shipping then it will be delivered to you by September 15.
Syed:Is that OK?
Me:That will be WONDERFUL
Syed:please wait while I upgrade it for you.
Me:Thanks
Syed:I've upgraded the shipping method to One-Day Shipping shipping at no extra charge.
Me:SHahid, that is wonderful
Syed:The new estimate for delivery is August 30 - September 15
Me:I appreciate that very much
Me:Thanks
Syed:You're welcome J*****.
Syed:It's my pleasure working with you.
Syed:Is there anything else I can do for you today?
Me:No
Syed:Thanks for understanding and for your patience.
Me:By the way, have a good Ramadhan
Syed:Have a nice day, J*****
Syed:You too.
Me:same to you
Me:Bye
Syed:Bye, J*****.

Oh well, Atleast I got free faster delivery.

Upgrade Amazon order to an Apple Store BTO version

Received my 11/4/128 yesterday. Thanks to a suggestion from a Slickdeals user EdDaMan, I brought it to the Apple Store to exchange for an 11" i7/4/256GB BTO version. The first Apple Store denied me, saying it had to have been bought from Apple Retail or Apple Online.

Second store didn't ask any questions. They gave me a 1199 credit and subtracted it from the $1549 11" Ultimate educational price. Only paid tax on the difference. Also received a $100 HP AIO printer (with $100 rebate, no tax) and the free $100 App Store credit.

If I really wanted the best bang for my buck I probably should have bought the 15" version on Amazon and traded it in for the 11" Ultimate, but I didn't know some Apple Stores will let you trade a MacBook purchased from another retailer. The deal is a huge YMMV. I think it really is dependent on the sales person you have.

Just throwing it out there for anyone who wanted an i7 11", but decided to buy from Amazon due to the 20% off coupon.

I did the similar thing, used the 20% Kindle promo coupon and bought the 15" MBP 2.2Ghz, then I went to my local Apple store to trade up and they gave me a gift card so I could purchase my 17" MBP 2.3Ghz 256SSD BTO. The discount and trade gave me $1134.95 towards my new 17" MBP.

Just thought I'd post since I would have never found this deal with macrumors forum. I purchased the code on Ebay last week, shortly after the new Macbook Airs were taken off of the list of eligible laptops. I called in last week to try and get it applied manually, but the CSR told me to wait until they were in stock.

I called today, talked with a CSR for about 5-10 minutes and had them apply the code manually. It appears that the low stock for the Macbook Airs caused Amazon to remove them from the list of eligible laptops.

If you've got a code, try and use it before everything gets ****ed up again. Thanks again to everyone that posted!

Just got my early shipping confirmation from Amazon... ordered my 11/4/128 yesterday when it said (3-6 weeks shipping).

"We have good news! We're able to get this part of your order to you faster than we originally promised"

Apple MacBook Air MC969LL/A 11.6-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION)
Previous estimated arrival date: September 14 2011 - September 27 2011
New estimated arrival date: August 22 2011

11/4/128 Airs are in stock right now (1-2 days to process order).

How did this work? You just walked in with your sealed box? No receipt?

If this waiting for the 13/128 goes on much longer I'm going to be strongly tempted to see if I can switch to the 11/128 and still get the discount. It's frustrating to see those in stock and I could have one delivered tomorrow. However, given my luck, 13/128's would come back into stock one day after I did it.
