What kind of things are you planning on doing with your Air?

Me? I would open it and enjoy, as maflynn puts it.

the thing is, i want this laptop to last me for as long as it can, even through as many software updates as it can. im so tempted to open it and play with it too lol

"Even through as many software updates as it can"?? I take it you mean OS upgrades? The i5 to i7 upgrade is negligible unless you're doing things that are very cpu intensive. I doubt and any version of OS X will ever benefit significantly enough from the small amount extra cpu power that the i7 provides. If anything, future versions of OS X may perform better with more cores or a better GPU, the i7 does not offer any of this, just more cache and a higher clock speed.

Right now the difference in power between the two is small... In 5 years, it will be completely negligible when compared to modern CPUs. Upgrading to an i7 will not future proof you at all.

Let's face it, you're going to be drooling over next year's MacBook Air anyway. So why future-proof this one? :D Joking aside, I can't put these into better words myself:

Has anyone who has ordered the base 13" changed their order to the higher end 13". All of this waiting on my 13/128 is making me want to switch to the 13/256. just curious if amazon will let me. The coupon i used is from my own kindle. However, I gave sold the kindle and it is no linger registered to my account. I did, however, receive my code through my amazon email.

The 256 model is backordered too.

Both 13s are out of stock...who knows which ones they will get in first.

Is this promotion still active? I'm wondering what all I need to do to take advantage of it. I don't have any kindle at the moment.

Pages 1 -70 explain it. Since you have no Kindle you pretty much have no chance if getting in on this deal as most reps are looking fir registered kindles. Plus amazon has removed the 2011 MBA from their intail offer. Sorry, but you snooze you lose.

Are you trying to see if Apple will take back your Amazon-bought i5 and exchange it for an i7 for the $150 difference? It's unlikely, since most stores don't carry the 11" i7 with the 128GB SSD (it's an online order). They might carry the i7 with the 256GB SSD, but if you don't need the storage, it's a $450 difference, if Apple even lets you do the exchange (which they might not).

I suggest just keeping the i5. It's pretty quick as it is. Just consider it $150-450 toward the 2013 Air.

Finally, it shipped today w/ tracking number and 2-Day UPS

13//256
Ordered August 6th. Originally I got Sept. 1-19 Shipping Date and Super Saving Free Shipping
Upgraded to 2 day Shipping and my status changed to Delivery of August 27

This tells me that they do have the 13/256 models already. The 13/128 might be a different story.

Good luck guys!

If i were you, go on a chat with a CSR and ask him/her to do the change for you. Also make sure that you ask if you can get a free upgrade on the shipping, or if there are any other discounts that are available because you are upgrading to a more expensive unit. There is no harm in asking, and based on postings here (including mine) the CSRs usually are quite willing to throw in some freebies.

If you bought the Kindle and used the code, it shouldn't matter if you still own it or not. I think it becomes only a potential problem if you returned the Kindle to Amazon after you used the code.

At any rate the CSR will actually confirm the new price of the upgrade before you OK it anyway.

Yeah I know, I figure I have to wait either way. Just all this waiting has got me thinking about storage. I think I made need more than 128.

I'm gonna discuss it with my wife. Then ask CSR. Thanks for your advice.

I switched mine to a 256 GB yesterday and my unit shipped today. I just told the CSR I wanted to change my order and I copy pasted the unit's specific model that I wanted from Amazon's web site in the chat box. I then indicated that I needed my Kindle 20% discount applied and they complied. My original order was August 6th.

Thanks to the OP. With this deal I got me a Macbook Pro 17 and my wife the Air 13 256. Saved well over $1000.

You ordered a 256 13" MacBook air yesterday and it already shipped? I've been waiting for 12 days now, and I still don't have a ship date. :(
