I switched mine to a 256 GB yesterday and my unit shipped today. I just told the CSR I wanted to change my order and I copy pasted the unit's specific model that I wanted from Amazon's web site in the chat box. I then indicated that I needed my Kindle 20% discount applied and they complied. My original order was August 6th.

Thanks to the OP. With this deal I got me a Macbook Pro 17 and my wife the Air 13 256. Saved well over $1000.

So maybe the 256 are in stock soon? This makes me want to switch even more!

so wait, what did he pay as the price on the 256 before the discount? Looks like prices are jacked up real high right now on Amazon.

The current price on the 13/256 is $1549. The 3rd party prices are the ones that are jacked up. The Amazon price is in small print on the right hand side of the page.

Thanks, I see it now. Hmmm....an extra $251 to get it sooner with just a 2x bigger hard drive. I'm getting pretty impatient, but I'll probably wait though.

The 256s are definitely not "in-stock," they're just ahead of the 128s. Some 8/6 and 8/7 256s have shipped, but not 8/8 yet. So they're still at least two weeks backordered.

I ordered on the 7th. Wonder if I changed mine to the 256 model if it would ship out.

I wouldn't think so... If they had notebooks lying in the warehouse to do such a thing, they'd have shipped them to cover backorders.

I think mtntrance had some special customer service mojo spell sprinkled on his order or something.

I spoke with a rep and had my order changed from the 128 to the 256 model on Saturday night. Rather than cancel the order and reorder it, he just modified the order. I think this kept my place in the order line. It still looked like the order was placed on 8-6 (which the original order was)....Anyway my order shipped and it arrives today.

I hate you. I'm waiting for a 13/256. Enjoy it

are you guys able to log into your amazon account today? i'm not able to.. it keeps giving "There was a problem with your request - problem with email/password combination" error. i even tried changing the password but even still i get this error..

do you think my account might be disabled/banned because i chatted with CSR one too many times?

this is really upsetting. if my order gets cancelled or anything i am going to be devastated

So after reading about 2 instances where people changed their orders from 13/128 to 13/256 and are now expecting their shipments today, I decided to speak to Amazon, the rep I spoke said Amazon doesn't have any stock of 13/256... For those who are receiving their 13/256 today did you get a shipping number?

I'm seriously considering getting the 11/128 and then taking it to an apple store and paying the difference for an 13/128...

Do you think apple would do this? I didn't think they would allow you to return items not bought from their store.

hypothetically, let's say someone did about 100 chats with CSR about this order. would they result in a ban?

Hypothetically, did that person ask for any extra price discounts, or perhaps the application of a Kindle coupon when that person didn't have a registered Kindle?

Not technically, but it's at the discretion of the store manager. Sometimes they will allow exchanges for products received as gifts, etc.

hypothetically, yes to the first part (asking for price discounts). but not necessarily asking for it up front. but by expressing their disappointment and unsatisfactory experience with this order due to the heavy delays in shipping.

Ordinarily I wouldn't think that would be grounds for a ban, unless, hypothetically this person also has a history of being disappointed and unsatisfied with everything purchased from Amazon.

I don't know but there's a couple of stories of this in the thread where people buy from amazon and then return it to apple by saying it is a gift. Apple then supply them with a giftcard equivalent to the price of the laptop + gst, which can be used to purchase anything

Just an update, I spoke to another rep and asked if they could change my order and they said no...

Seems risky. Would suck to buy an 11" and not be able to exchange it.

hypothetically this person has only done such a thing on this particular order, no others. personally i think this person's expression of his disappointment with the shipping is justified, as is the hypothetical $300 price discount this person received in addition to the 20% coupon.

Ordered on the 6th, updated shipping address and now the estimated delivery date is August 30, 2011 - October 3, 2011... jeez :(
