Well...considering I have a shipping date between August 31 and September 16 for my 2011 Macbook Air 13" 256gb 4GB Ram I went out to best buy and bought their last remaining 13" 4GB 128gb Macbook Air to take with me to Hawaii. I paid $1292.99 out the door and got a free $100 gift card (which I bought Amazon gift cards and applied to my 256gb). So when I get back from Hawaii I'll try and sell the the 13" 128 GB for $1200 and break even.

Had I known all this i would have kept the original 256gb I bought from Best Buy. LOL

Not sure how long you will be gone but fyi Best Buy no longer has a restocking fee. You have up to 14 days to return your computer even if it has been opened. If you will be gone for more than 2 weeks you could even return one in Hawaii then buy another one depending on whether or not it is worth the pain.

Edit-I too was able to painlessly get the extra $20 off by chatting with a rep. No change in my ship date.

first guy kept refusing to adjust the price saying that it'll change to the current price when it ships, but the second guy was helpful. saved 18 bucks more, the wait stinks, but i will wait for such a huge discount like this...

I get my i5 13 Air tomorrow from Amazon, walked into the Apple store today in the mall and to my surprise they had i7 13 pro in stock which i thought was BTO only in most cases, GUYS!!! I couldn't resist, I bought it!!! lol IM IN LOVE!!! SAMSUNG ALL THE WAY AROUND TOO!!! What the heck do I do with the Amazon unit, I wonder how much I can sell it for cause I know "typically" the air is not a big seller and is not that popular but these new ones the manager was saying are flying off the shelves!!! IM EXCITED

They just denied me the ability to change my order with tue promo. Basically said they had to transfer me to the kindle dept to get a new coupon. I'll try again later but it's probably not worth the hassle. I'd like to say oh I should have stuck with my ultimate with apple care, but that was a grand more and this is supposed to be a stop gap. That said I may sell this one unopened and wait. The iPad and desktop are doing fine for now. Better than I thought.

Add me to the support group that's been checking his order 15 times a day. I'm more in the 'want' rather than 'need' category, but I'd still like to get it as soon as I can. The huge discount mitigates the long wait.

My 13/128 was ordered on 8/6.
And my shipping status has not changed once. It still says delivery estimate between Sep. 1 and Sep 22.

I just called two Apple stores near where I live. One of them said that they could exchange the Macbook air DEPENDING on where it was purchased from. So it looks like a "no" there...

The second store I called gave a different story. I told her that the macbook air wasn't purchased from Apple, but she said they could just exchange it for a gift card and I could use that to order my BTO 11" Macbook air with the i7 processor.

Thus, when my Macbook Air comes in tomorrow, I will be heading down there to find do this. Hopefully it works.

The 13" 128GB Air is now allowing back orders on Amazon and the price is $1212.49.

Go get your price adjustments!

After I saw this post I did another chat w/ a CSR to request this additional price cut. Previously I was flatly denied the request because according to the CSR they could only make adjustments based on current pricing.

So this time I also attached a screen shot of the current pricing even though they were showing the air on a "Backorder" status and after the CSR ackowledged my request, he quickly gave me the $45 credit! This is now in addition to the $10 promo credit and free shipping upgrade ($26 value) that they gave me when they denied my first request. So folks it's never too late and never give up. My Air (13/256, ordered 8/6) is due to arrive tomorrow. Thanks Aeboi

I was denied b/c the CSR stated that Amazon does not do post-order price matches on anything besides TVs. He sent me the link to the policy website. The rest of them stated the same thing. Best of luck for the rest.

Sorry to hear that but it could well be because my Air is still in transit when I made my second attempt.

Mine hasn't even been shipped yet. I contacted one more and the same story. They gave me free one day shipping worth $3.99, but no update on the shipping date and no discount.

I received my August 6th order today. It was a i5/256/13. After hearing all of the exchange success stories I took it to the Apple store and exchanged it for the i7/256/13. After the .edu discount, selling the 100 GC, and free printer it will end up being cheaper than the 1240 paid for the Amazon model.

This was a 560+ savings off the 1699 price factoring in tax.

Unheard of for an Apple computer! Thank you thank you to the OP!

Try again and again. Their policy is definitely inconsistent. I was actually surprised when the CSR said he would give me the additional $45 credit. I was bracing for a negative answer and a reference to the previous chat where I was denied the request. I wonder if they even have a record of the previous chat.

Also it might just be a coincidence but I got the additional deal while chatting late late at night.. Maybe the daytime CSR's are more regulated/monitored. But then again, I could be chatting with a CSR in Asia where it is daytime hours!

How does the education discount work. Do you need to show ID and when does it end. Can I get the discount as faculty.

First CSR told me to send him a link, blah, blah, blah.

2nd CSR gave me a ~$20 credit for my yet-to ship MBA 13/128 ordered Aug. 6 around 12 PM EST.

First time I chatted with CSR a about a week ago I was upgraded to 1-day shipping for free (originally free super saver shipping).

Delivery estimate Aug 30 to Sep 27. ouch.

I've called into an Amazon rep and he was unable to give me a price difference for the 13/128 MBA. He suggested me cancel the order and reorder, but obviously that would mess things up, and I'd lose my spot in line. Instead of giving me the $18 price difference, he gave me a $10 credit the next time I buy something off of Amazon. Meh, it was better than nothing.

Also, I've asked specifically if there was a better estimate for the 13/128 shipments, and he said it would be by the end of August. We'll see if that is gonna hold.

Just curious: did you open the box before the exchange, or was it unopened?

You should be able to return the Amazon unit for a refund.

I think you should be able to show your ID as faculty as well, but don't quote me. Sorry...

I brought it in unopened.

My 11" Macbook Air arrives tomorrow and I plan on exchanging it at the Apple Store for a BTO i7 Macbook Air. I won't open it either.

A couple questions for you. Did they notice that the Macbook Air wasn't purchased from an Apple store? Did they say anything about it? Where did you say you got it from? Did you tell them you bought it from Amazon.?

I'm just curious because one Apple store I called said they would only exchange the Air depending on where it was bought from. Needless to say I won't be going to that location. Another store I called didn't seem to care so much and said that if it doesn't pop up on their system, they could just credit it to a new order.

im located in maryland.

i called two stores and physically went into a third one. got rejected in all three. said without any proof that it was bought at the store they can't let me upgrade.

Placed my order for a 13"/128 today now that they are back listed through Amazon. The first reps I chatted with refused to apply the discount saying the list had changed, but I persisted and finally got one that would manually apply it. The final cost comes to $955 after a $30 giftcard. I am so excited and saved about $300 off retail. This computer will help so much with my school work this upcoming year.
