And my issue was with your "budget phone" argument!
If the sentence wasn't there I wouldn't comment on your post at all. So yeah, comprehension or not, when you discredit your idea with one final sentence then you get what you did :)
(especially as it was in capitals :p )

You are clearly not understanding the context of my comment or didn't read it fully. The "rumor" is that this new BUDGET iPhone will use stainless steel and frosted glass like the iPhone 11 Pro does. Im taking issue with that nonsense because Apple will never do that......not with the existence of a budget iPhone.

So yeah you're right....itll be an iPhone 8 design.....which is what I said.

read and re-read.....comprehension is key! ;)

Nice!
Thicker phone = more battery

Should be a huge draw for those upgrading from iPhone 6/6s/7/8

I hope the name iPhone 9 isn't correct. Marketing wise, why would a customer even look at an iPhone 9 when the current phone is an iPhone 11. I think most people (not on here) just look at the name and not specs.

iphone 9 makes the most sense though. It’s easy for the average consumer. “It looks like iPhone 7 and 8 but it’s the next one, iPhone 9”

plus it also lets the average consumer know its a step below the iPhone 11

it’s pretty straightforward actually

It was already showing its age since the iPhone 7, where the ONLY change was the courageous headphone jack removal.
If you're going to support your arguments with outright lies, maybe don't capitalize the lying part to make it stand out more?

Looking at Wikipedia's iPhone 7 article for a few seconds. we find:

The iPhone 7's overall design is similar to iPhone 6S and iPhone 6. Changes introduced included new color options (matte black and jet black), water and dust resistance, a new capacitive, static home button, revised antenna bands, and the removal of the 3.5 mm headphone jack. The device's internal hardware received upgrades, including a heterogeneous quad-core system-on-chip with improved system and graphics performance, upgraded 12 megapixel rear-facing cameras with optical image stabilization on all models, and an additional telephoto lens exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus to provide enhanced (2x) optical zoom capabilities and portrait mode.

Because people buy them and iOS is a lot better than Android. An iPhone is as much software as it is hardware, if not more.

We know that. But it doesn't excuse Apple from staying stuck in the past with their offerings. Give us a truly comprehensive and modern lineup of iPhones. All edge-to-edge. Differentiate them by A-processors and RAM

Why? Not everyone wants all the features such as edge to edge, etc.

Apple doesn’t need your advice on product differentiation or sales execution. They are objectively the best in the world.

Apple is not going to make a low priced ($400-ish) iPhone that uses design elements from its thousand dollar flagship. When is anyone going to realize this.

Sorry to burst everyones bubble but itll look like an iphone 8 with a cheaper price tag and beefed up internals , like they did with the SE a few years ago. Its not going to have a stainless chassis and frosted glass back. Good grief.

ITS A BUDGET PHONE

did you read what OnLeaks said? He only knows the dimensions. The materials are his own speculation and he acknowledges theyre not likely.

Kuo already said it was have same materials as iPhone 8 so we know it’s not going To have steel bands and frosted glass.

it’s just a render onleaks made and onleaks acknowledges that only the dimensions are accurate, not the materials.

The company stock reached historic levels through successive buybacks, for sure. As for the actual products, other than a couple of flagships, their industrial design is hopelessly long in the tooth, with some wonky attention grabbers here and there like the TouchBar, and their respective OS choices are haphazard, buggy and convoluted. I don't know about Dieter per se but yea, I miss having a detailed product minded individual who prioritises design & engineering on the helm.
I'm not referencing the stock. I'm talking about the historic levels of product sales. Now, is a portion of their phone design long in tooth? Imo yes it is. Does it really matter to consumers? Again, anecdotally the sales say no it doesn't. I mean, they still sell a crap ton of phones that follow that iPhone 6 design language. We can nitpick individual decisions until the cows come home. Some were good, some were bad, some I agree with, some I didn't. But when viewed in totality, you're going to be hard pressed to find a company that has been run more successfully than Apple. Run by Cook.

I won't lie, I'm looking forward to this. The 6/7/8 is, for me, the perfect size. I know I'm in the minority, but I still prefer LCD, especially with as good as Apple has made them the last couple of years. And while I do like Face ID, I still prefer Touch ID. This looks to be a tad thicker without 3D Touch, so the battery should be bigger. If the single lens is as good as the 11/11 Pro's single lens, and it includes Night Mode, then IMO this sounds like the perfect device... for me... and for all of those who like the form factor of the 6/7/8 line.

Bring it on, my trusty launch-day SE is falling apart.

Edit: what's wrong with calling it a budget phone? I don't need, nor will I ever buy, the nice stuff like the 11/11 Pro because it's too much money for a phone IMO - an iPhone 8 with the latest A chip and a ~$400 price tag sounds like a great deal to me.

Bring back an updated iPod classic with flash storage, Bluetooth 5 and a click-wheel with haptic feedback while you're at it...
The iPod classic didn't have the best DAC. The iPod 3G or before IIRC had the better audio chipset, and would be the one to try and emulate.

Can't wait for this. Will most likely buy day 1.
I wonder though, if 3D touch is removed then why is it thicker?
If its just updated iPhone 8 what internal thing makes it thicker? Could it just be a bigger battery? I somehow wonder why proven design gets changed
The thickness is probably to make it more durable. The SE screen is something like 3x more durable than the iPhone X screen, for example.

Anecdotal evidence says that a good portion of Apple customers either don't about or aren't bothered by large bezels.
Note the combined percentage of small bezel phone activations vs large bezel phone activations.

Wait. You would trade in a CEO who shepherded the company to historic levels for... well, for anyone really? We actually know what Cook has done. Any imaginary better replacement would be hard pressed to come close to replicated Cooks success. Never mind bettering it.

LOL. You could say this about every post here. It’s a frickin’ forum.

It just gets sold out hearing from the arm chair CEOs. Questioning the product positioning is just silly and a waste of time. Apple has iPhones down to a science.

As long as its front frame comes in white, I’m in. I’m a big fan of phones that have a white front.

yes, going backwards is an awesome plan. like the kind of awesome plan when you totally f-up and pretend like this is what you intended to do. i hope apple are smarter than that, although judging by their naming convention insanity, i probably shouldn't.

They are trying to psychologically seperate their two lines, which is also why they started using roman numerals for the "10" and up lineup, and just used 7, 8, 9, for the "regular" phones.

I don't see it as going back for this reason. But I agree it's not working that well, because what I've noticed 85% of the time is people are just calling the higher end phone's "Ex R (10 R), and "iPhone Ex". Maybe by that note, it actually is working, since it's still diving the two into distinct categories.

Because people buy them and iOS is a lot better than Android. An iPhone is as much software as it is hardware, if not more.

And based on the number of older iPhones I see out in the wild and in my own family, I'd argue for most average consumers, the software is more important than the hardware (with the possible exception of the camera).

It's a bit of a leap to suggest they don't care. The popularity of large beveled phones can be attributed to their lower costs.
Hmmmm. Is that what suggested, or is that what you gathered from reading a couple of words in my quote while ignoring the context and the rest of the words?;) I'm fairly certain my quote was more nuanced than that. But if that's all you got from my quote, that's all you got I guess.

had that been the case the wouldn't have called the current model "11" it would've been "XI" :)
and introducing 9 after 11 is a terrible plan imho.
