Are we really certain these ads are new? I mean, the so called cheaper price they are advertising is the exact same price as it is now.. Sounds to me like these are simply old ads. They would have been pulled by now if they were new.

Amen. Heck, anything sub-$2k

The CTO, single CPU Xeon system apple stopped selling earlier this year was the last reasonably affordable, fully expandable entry level tower they've made in a long time. Even that was up from the £1,099 price tag of the old G4 and G3 systems that sat at the entry level.

In the PowerPC days, it used to be the same motherboard for all but the low end. It would just have limited RAM slots, a smaller HD and a more entry level GPU. Once they went Intel, it all went crazy even though the Intel Macs totally spank the PPC based models, the performance boost was well overdue.

Given the entry level G5s had a 4Gb RAM limit, the most basic Mac Mini model with 4Gb RAM easily out performs those models but there needs to be a fairly priced entry level system like there used to be, not laptops for your desk as the only alternative.

Well that is NOT good news. Ultra Think = Less Space = Probably no quad core.
Still overpriced and still in the cpu dark ages.

This company really sucks:mad:

Sounds like you're ready to walk away from Apple. Send me a PM and we can arrange the transaction details for the transfer of your iMac to my house.

And just one final question. If it's STILL overpriced, with a CPU STILL in the dark ages, and the COMPANY REALLY SUCKS, why on Earth did you buy in the first place. You don't seem like the type of person that would buy because it's pretty.

Anyway, I'm sure Apple is sorry to see you go. Again, send me that PM - I'm anxious to take ownership of my new iMac!

I was thinking that, but aren't resellers being told not to expect stock for another 2-3 weeks?

Now we can see 2 weeks for receive units in the education store, i think that if there is an event, today will be announced

Is today the day? Who knows..I've been hoping because I saw a Mac Mini purchaser say their purchase was pushed back to ship Oct. 9.. So that could be today, since it's Tuesday.

For christ's sake it's NOT happening today. New iMac design = event. no invites = no event. end of story.

I REALLY hope whatever announcement there is comes soon.... I am just hoping that it is not an announcement that everything is the same but a bit thinner.... in my opinion the current processor is fine, memory is fine but what is up with the gpu? A 9400m in a $1000+ desktop? Why???

still, looks like I am going to be dissapointed, or they would have mentioned that the imac was faster in those adverts.

I was hopin to buy a iMac today bit I don't think that is going to happen. East coast stores are opening up in a few minutes and no announcement. Guess I'll be waiting until next Tuesday. Or maybe a Tuesday after that.

Not necessarily: if it is simply just making it thinner and not a proper case redesign (i.e. whole different feel to it) then there is no reason that it would have to be announced as an event. (not that I think that it is really going to be released today.... but I can dream)

Also, this is going to sound stupid, but why does everyone think they are only going to be released on a Tuesday? ( I'm sure there is an obvious explanation that I am have just not realized.)

I am with you my friend...hanging in there.

Might have something to do with the leaked Google Ads there seen on google.nl over the weekend. Still guess work as to when there will be a release

yeah, I get why there is all the hype about it now, with the adverts having come out, but why only Tuesdays? Someone said earlier that it would be next tuesday or the one after: why not Thursday or Friday?

who said it was a complete redesign? if it's only thinner, why would there be an event for that. I remember the new intel Macbooks didn't get an even. White and black and complete redesign, NO event.

Apple has traditionally released new products on Tuesdays. If you think about, Friday is a terrible day to release new products, you get less press time. But if you release on Tuesday you can max the coverage and press you get from the publicity of releasing the product.

What interests me is the mouse keyboard redesign. I'm still under the impression that there would be no reason to make the keyboard mm thinner without some sort of design change. Same goes for the mouse, which we already know is being redone. If you combine those things, with the rumors of a redesign/thinner iMac, plus Mac Mini updates, plus MB rumor updates, you think that's a lot to just quietly release online. If it were just hardware upgrades then sure, it wouldn't need an event, but they have built up a lot of anticipation for these rumors. And I think we'd all be stupid to think they don't fuel some of these things to get press and attention. But I'm still not expecting a whole lot from them.

And everyone thinks Tuesday because Apple holds most of their events, releases, and all that on Tuesday. Its just their trend.

Yeah, I do see your point, but if you look at it this way:

The keyboard and mouse updates: The mouse is rumoured to be made from aluminium. This would suggest that it is not so much trying to create a new range, but to make it look more compatible with the current range of aluminium models

Macbook: This is apparently a speed bump and getting thinner, no redesign of the white casing etc. If apple rolled out a new set of "get a mac" adverts and targeted online people (e.g. macrumors and other sites) then it could create easily as much buying hype as an event.

Imac: If this is just a "getting thinner" operation, then many of the laptops have undergone such a transformation without even the whisper of an event.

Mac Mini: Speed bump. Nothing too much for apple to brag about: it isn't as if it is going to be given two quad core processors and 16gb of RAM. And to be honest, events are really driven by a new look to a product, rather than a relatively invisible speed bump which will be, to the majority of buyers, irrelevant.

It's possible apple won't want to have an event if the are using old processors in the imac. I doubt there will be an event. I would expect invites would have gone out by now.
