seems to be nothing changed again this week:(...hv to wait for another tuesday?!

probably, yes. AAARGH I can't take it any more when will they do something????

EDIT:

Oh, and I know some people have done this on this thread, but I'd like to know what people here basically expect. Basically, what do you want from the updates and what do you expect?

so for me
Want:
Better graphics (dedicated card in all imacs rather than the 9400m)

Expect:
Thinner..... again.

Now that I see MS is leaking prototype multi-touch mice I am re-thinking my position on this.

If Apple introduces a multi-touch capable mouse/keyboard then there will be an event. It would be a revolutionary tech change and would require a full event.

That's what I've been trying to say. You can't just add multi-touch to a mouse, something that's never been done before, and release it online. Same thing goes for the virtual keyboard patent they have. If this keyboard is multi-touch in any way, I see no reason why Apple wouldn't want to hold an event just to show off is revolutionary technology...

Forget updates to iMac speed, Mac Mini, Macbooks, they'll want to showcase multi-touch accessories. Though I'd expect they'd take the chance to update the iMac alongside its new buddies, new keyboard and mouse. I'm starting to think the newest build of SL is somehow adding support to these new accessories and will be released when the update comes around. All this surround a Windows 7 launch and people won't be talking about Microsoft.

Want an inside view of MS PR ?

Whenever MS sees Apple rumors about new high tech potentially groundbreaking devices MS PR puts together "Demo videos" of what MS has coming out. They do this to try and overshadow Apple technology. Then after Apple comes out with the device MS gets one and breaks it down part by part and tries to emulate it.

Yup, that's how it goes. Except I give them credit for the Zune HD...minus the app store, I think its the better device. And as far as the tablet goes, well I like the Courier a whole lot more than what I've heard from Apple. And I think its had a lot of positive press which makes me think they may go their own route. But theres no need to doubt that everyone in this industry watches what Apple is doing.

"And to further stoke the rumour mill, Apple stores have also received new signage that’s “not to be opened or displayed until further notice”. Big shiny “New ultra-slim iMac” posters? We think so." <-- EH, just open the ****ing package and give us som pics? :)

Just because they recently filed a patent application doesn't suggest the products are ready to sell. In fact it suggests just the opposite. I would not think a new revolutionary keyboard and mouse they just filed on would make it in this release, whatever this release turns out to be...

Keyboard is just a rumor, they have the patent filed, who knows what they're doing with it. Apple has a lot of patents...

The mouse is something that people actually think is much closer to reality. I don't know if or when they filed a patent on a multi-touch mouse, but the rumors are suggesting its real, and its supposed to be soon.

My only assumption with the keyboard was I didn't see the reason to change the form so little for something simple, like space, size, color. I would expect them to submit these things to the FCC when they are ready for production, which clearly they were since they were taken down so quickly...so more or less they have my curiosity, not my money though. Not yet at least.;)

agree! then again I would imagine that all apple employees are told that it's way more than their job's worth to look inside...

I'm still confused as to when this stuff is actually going to be released... currently i'm betting on next tuesday... but then again I have heard loads about it happening earlier this week.

i know sometimes there have been wednesday releases...maybe tomorrow

Yeah, that is true- wednesday releases are not unheard of, and seeing as the 7th (wednesday) is the day that apple says it's going to re-stock imacs.....

i hope so!!

I looked at the dates of imac releases.... 2 wednesday releases, (2005 and 2006) and a ton of Tuesday releases... i would love to think that they'll be here tomorrow... but i'm guessing we have at lease another week before anything happens.

That's what we'll all be telling ourselves until late tomorrow. Then we'll say "Might be a Thursday release this time".
The worst part is that it's potentially the whole lineup, so I can't go "MBPs aren't mentioned. Should be ok to get something on Friday" because if the MB is altered, then the MBP could easily get a bump to keep the difference between lines. Bah.

lol. I want a macbook pro and an imac so this is the worst

Surprise!

Despite the fact that the Apple Store for Education says 2 weeks to ship, we just had our iMac replacement order "packed for shipment" today. Here's the short story:

On Thursday, our order for a replacement iMac was placed (thanks to AppleCare)..... our 2 year old iMac had died.

The order was completely processed by early Thursday morning, but nothing happened. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday morning, nothing happened....

but, surprise!, today our order is packed for shipment. This is an iMac 3.06 GHz machine from the Apple Store for Education.

So we won't be getting the new model of the iMac if one appears (we had no role in the decision), but that doesn't really matter. We're just thrilled to have a new replacement iMac on the way.

And it should mean that there will be no launch this week. Naturally I would guess the next tuesday, the 13th, but then Apple must sent out invitations this week - otherwise I do not know if there is any update in ocotober. Hm.

Could this just be that they had a previous generation one that they wanted to get rid of before the update? And yeah, they will have to send out some invitations this week if there is going to be an event soon.

Well, that's what I was thinking.... but my order was all handled by the Apple Store for Education, and they still say "2 week shipping", so this is a little unexpected.

We're still very happy customers. If the update in October is a speed bump, we won't worry. If the update is a totally new iMac, then we won't be "beta-testing" the "Rev A" for a new product! So we're happy either way. We'll have our iMac, and the deal is done.

No updates this year for iMac or Mini

1)iMac

Look, the processors are not there for an update. Earliest available will be Arrandale first quarter next year. So I don't see them doing a major overhaul of the iMac if they just plan on sticking to the old processors or just giving them a slight speed bump. That's not how it works. If they go to all the trouble of a brand new design overhaul, they'll want to put in new processors - not mere speed bumps... this way, they can have a big old unveiling of the new design with a special invitation event. They are not going to do it for a small speed bump. Ergo - it ain't happening until next year when Arrandale comes out.

2)Mini

No reason to bump the mini at all - it was just upgraded in March, and Apple has been very slow with updating the Mini. From their point of view, what's the point? So it comes closer in performance to the unupdated iMac? Fat chance. Better leave everything as it is, instead of having a random Mini update.

Bottom line: no update on either Mini or iMac this year. Instead, Apple will concentrate on getting Snow Leopard ready for prime time and optimized for the new hardware, and then spring the new hardware next year with a big event where they present new designs and new processors and everything optimized for Snow Leopard.

They are not going to jump the gun now - instead they'll wait till next year... it's only 2-4 months away anyway.

Besides, if we were really this close to an update, there'd already be at least some leaks of better reliability. But most importantly, there is no logic from Apple's point of view for an update - they'll wait 2-4 months and then do it properly.

SO - there is no chance of any updates to the Mini or iMac this year, period.

Apple often gets processors from Intel weeks or months before they are generally available. Not to mention that Clarksfield would be perfect for a new iMac and is available now.

Time will tell.

ETA on an iMac

Rumors have said mid-october and 6th isn't mid, 13th or 20th could be mid.

I called Apple customers relations yesterday, to see when the iMac I ordered back on Sept 18/09 should ship. After a few minutes of having to explain that I have neither the money nor the iMac all I wanted was a rough ideal of when I should expect it. I was told Oct 13th or sooner. I was also told that the delay was due to "stock shortages". take it for what it's worth. All I know is that Apple better have a damn good reason to keep customers waiting for the products they ordered and paid for.

HAHA. And you think therefore that the Google ads that are out there, it's just to joke with us? And that Apple chooses to not deploy more machines from the current line-up to the big retailers (Best Buy, Amazon), is that beacuse Apple already has enough money?

Idiot. :)

If you could bet money on what date the launch would occur, I would bet everything I own on October 13. It is just so.

Last year, unibody-event was in that day, or it was the 14th (https://www.macrumors.com/2008/10/14/apple-october-2008-notebook-media-event-coverage/) - the same thing will happen this year.

A inivation from Apple that they said it will hold an event next Tuesday would make such a big, heavy stone falling down from my heart, what a relief.
