Hello all,

Any guesses from you Mac-experts on how much faster the presumed new Macbook will be compared to current model? "thinner, lighter and stronger" really doesn't give out too much...

I'm a PC user, but currently considering to buy my first Mac for iPhone development. There would be a sale at a local department store for Macbook - 860 euros - only tomorrow... wondering if I should wait or not.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, and want one for the same reason (a Macbook or a possibly a Mini). 860 Euro's doesn't sound too cheap (what is it normally?), it's £749 here in the UK normally. They crop up farily regularly on the refurb store also for £649. Here's todays one

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/FC240B/A?mco=MTA4MzIxNjk

After using a netbook for a few months I'm really hoping they manage to reduce the weight by a decent amount. All this waiting is a killer.

Hi,

the cheapest "regular" price for Macbook here is 939 euros - and I think that's cheapest in the entire country, so it's about 80 euros saved if go for tomorrow's offer. Not horribly much money, but still...

Unfortunately, we don't have a refurb section in the Finnish Apple store so that's not an option for me.

Exact, if there is an event next Tuesday (13), then invitations will go out today and then Gizmodo and Engadget will be first with the news, so that is where we keep watch.

The funny thing is if it becomes an event, there will be enormous. New design for the iMac, the new Mac Minis, the new MacBook and new mice, keyboards and Apple Remote. I can hardly wait. And besides, it is timely for the upcoming Holiday and Christmas shopping.

And I agree with all that waiting is so horribly painful - and it happens only with Apple. Have to wait and wait and wait until the last. Never before have I experienced a similar anxiety over the wait, this is starting to kill me.

A little invitation out today and next week will be very funny.

Crikey you do get screwed on the exchange rate by Apple. I'm going to wait for the new models - if they don't take your fancy, existing stock of the older model will then be reduced in price so you've nothing to lose really. Except the time waiting of course.

Thought every country had a refurb store, sorry my bad.

Yes, that is true, 1 euro is about 1.47 usd today and yet the euro prices for Macbooks are nearly the same --- in digits!, being something like 1,4 times more expensive here. Oh well, the same goes for many software companies too, like Autodesk.

The refurb store would be a big plus for Apple. I certainly would consider a reasonably priced used Mac and it would be environmentally efficient too, to recycle them.

no news is good news ...

only think i can think of last time iMac updated, we can still see the previous generation imacs were on the market, may be apple wants to make sure the inventory cleared from entire channel.

If Gateway can do it, why can't Apple???

Trying not to get too excited about the upcoming refresh, but now we know it can be done. Anything less from Apple will be extremely disappointing!

http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/gateway-zx6810-01/4505-3118_7-33775413.html?tag=smallCarouselArea.1

Specifications:
Processor: Intel Core i7 Q8200 (2.33 GHz) ; RAM installed: 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM ; Hard drive: 1 TB Standard

I personally don't care about touch technology, so an SSD and a better GPU and in a similar package and I'll be a happy camper.

Cnet got it all wrong, the Q8200 is not from the Core i7 family, it's an old, ugly, 95W C2Q, you wouldn't want this cpu in an iMac. The 3.06GHz C2D in the current iMac is probably faster in a lot of tasks. AIOs with this cpu have been around for quite a time. Gateway is just late in the game.

I think the processor number is wrong, Q8200s is a LGA775 65Watts part, not the mobile Core i7 mobile (mobile quad the max is 2Ghz and they are above $1000)

95w? if they can fit that in, core i5 should be no problem!

Q8200S is 65watts, Q8200 is 95 watts, S is a special version of 8200 and lower power and $50 more than the Q8200.

LGA 775 is not relevant with iMac any more since Core i5/i7 are different socket (both desktop and mobile)

Gateway all-in-one.

Now that you mention it, the Q8200 at 2.33 doesn't fit what we already know about the i5 and i7's. Misleading then if Gateway is marketing this as a Core i7.

But how can Gateway fit a 95w chip in that form factor while the Apple seems to have thermal issues even with a much lower thermal limit?

Isn't Engadget owned by Webblogs Inc which in owned by AOL. AOL are to my knowledge based in NY, wouldn't Engadgets clock be adjusted to NY time instead of Cupertino time?

Just a guess...

Why wouldn't it be the time on your device? It doesn't specify a time zone which makes me think the time is relevant to you.

What the hell, give us a fu*king invitation now. Becomes so terribly angry at how long it takes for something to come out - what is Apple waiting for?

It's no point in buying an iMac now, because I buy through education, and it certainly seems to take a long time to have it sent.

Just give us something, Apple.

I think the tension is worse than normal, because the rumor mill was kind of early on this one. Everyone was sure stock was lowering, even Apple warned it was, and its fall, and there was the Google Adwords thing, and the models are due to be refreshed, and Windows 7 is coming out....

It's like everything is pointing to it, and then.... silence.

haha I like the way you put it.. indeed.

I know! I already sold my iMac on ebay to someone in the Alaska! I made sure to put 5 day handling time so I can be sure the new iMacs were out just as I have to send it.

It's happened before. The best thing to do is to wait…

How Many times do people here have to say it,its not all black and white what You say.
Prizes in the states are NOT including tax,you see the prize before tax, while in Europe all prizes include tax.
And then there's import tax.
I agree in the end we pay more here in Europe but its not as bad as some people believe it to be.
There's probably other reasons as well, maybe (shop) employees get paid more here than in the states??

EDIT:And yes,We pay more gst here, probably double or more but We have much better and cheaper public healthcare here :)
