I wish Apple would hurry up and DO something to at least give us all hope! The wiating is like Christmas when I was seven years old! Didn't handle it well then either. I snuck up to find out if Santa had come yet at 3 AM. Wish someone could sneak up on Apple and see if "Santa" is coming or not! :)

I think 12PM

waiting for Techie Christmas

At least Christmas is always the same day, no matter how bad waiting for that is. It always comes. This is different since the only people who know when this is going to happen. Totally unlike Christmas.

The iPod event invites were 1,5 weeks out, not a weekend like some are thinking here.

I imagine silent update to iMac and Mac Mini next week so they don't have too many questions of rumors about it during the earnings conference call the week after.

New macbooks beginning of November.

This is just getting funny...I enjoy reading all these justifications to why Apple hasn't sent invites for an event, or why updated iMacs are coming or any of these rumors.

I hope they don't update anything and this was all a test rumor to see how everyone felt about updates to iMacs and a new mighty mouse.

W...a...i...t...i...n...g...

This is comically annoying now. My G5 died in September and I saw the rumor of new iMacs so I have not replaced it yet. Now, after waiting for a month it seems even more likely that if I buy now I will wish I hadn't. I am waiting to see what the "compelling new features" are supposed to be. If it was not for that mystery I would assume a small bump and would not care.

BUT I can't buy without knowing the compelling new features. I am compelled to wait for the compellingness. It is as if they found which button to push for me. It turns out that having bought an iBook G3 right before the iBook G4 came out and an iMac G5 right before they switched to intel chips I cannot buy the current core 2 duo for feer that quad core is just around the corner.

Even though it isn't. :p

Oh well, I hope it is indeed a compelling update and not just the absurd thinner which would allow me to buy a version one of a machine that just might be too hot for its own good.

please put me out of my misery

At this point, I just want them to announce them- I am starting to not even care what the redesign or spec bump is. I have been haunting these sites for the last month in hopes of any crumb of news- please just announce it already.

BTW, feel the earlier poster's pain- bought my current imac g5 three weeks before the intel change-over. Last year, refused to do the same thing and waited for the unibody macbooks to come out....

i am sick of them. I am waiting for about 2 months now for an announcement. I am going to buy an alienware pc or something...

There is no event next week. It's too late to call one. Invites never go out on a Friday for an event..

If anything there will be speed bumps Tuesday. If not then perhaps an event the week of Windows 7 release.

Another week and nothing. :( My iMac has been down for the past two weeks and I don't want to get another one when something might be around the corner, even though I really need one. I'll hold out for one more week and if there is nothing by Friday, I'll just pick up an iMac and hope that the announcement falls within the 14 day grace period.

I'm getting increasingly pessimistic about there being any update at all.... COME ON APPLE prove me wrong..... please.....
I mean, we've been predicting an update "tomorrow" every day for the last few weeks....:(

I had a strange thought today as I "haunted" these forums hoping for info on an update that will in no way affect me as I just bought a MBP 13". :)

We now know that Nvidia is pulling out of the chipset business--at least for the near future--due to licensing issues with Intel. These licensing issues obviously arose because Nvidia's chipsets with integrated graphics are vastly superior to Intel's offering. Now this announcement affects Apple perhaps more than most manufacturers as they have built their entire line (with the exception of the Mac Pro) around the 9400M and their new OS and Quicktime are very linked to this hardware. WHAT IF Apple is going to start making its own chipsets? By this I mean designing and then paying someone in China to fab them. They could license Nvidia's tech (its not going to be doing much aside from powering Ion system soon) and probably get Intel's blessing because of Apple customer loyalty, high profile, and relatively small market share.

The "compelling feature" could be nothing but a speed bump (although I really wish it is the LV i5 proc) and Apple's version of the 9400M. The custom hardware could also help combat Pystar's rising problem of unlicensed clones--not in the short term--but if newer Nehalem architecture Mac's are required to have the his custom chipset that's going to upset Pystar's game in a big way.

Alright flame away!

Tried to give up on waiting

Coming back to work from lunch I looked at the refurb store and saw a refurbed 2.0 gHz intel Macbook for $749 and thought, what the heck, I need a computer. So I added it to my cart and then decided to look over the reviews of that model to make sure there was not some complaint out there that I should keep in mind. Nope. People were happy with that one. I go back to my cart to pull the trigger and it says, we are sorry, the item you put in your cart is no longer available in the quantities you ordered so it has been removed from your cart.

Someone else was quicker on the trigger than me. Now I need the new ones to come out and make me think, wow, good thing I did not get that primitive Macbook!

To me this is just funny. As I said from the beginning - no new iMacs or Minis until next year when new chips are available. It makes no sense to keep saying, day after day, after day, "what, no invites?". Of course not! That's because there are no new mobile chips - at best, they'd be able to do a small speed bump, and no way in the world are they going to do a major re-design and a big event with invitations, all just for a speed bump!

PEOPLE, IT IS NOT HAPPENING!!

Now get it through your head. If you really want new machines, wait until next year - until then, you can safely ignore the hoopla by the hardcore fans who whip themselves into a froth based on nothing much but seasonal shortages.

Speed bumps coming next week.... but NO EVENT!

I cant see why on earth there would be an event? For an iMac redesign? ANd a few Mac Mini/Macbook speed increases? I dont think so.

I had a strange thought today as I "haunted" these forums hoping for info on an update that will in no way affect me as I just bought a MBP 13".

Using the one I bought today. Nice bit of kit, and if there's an update or something to the MBPs, I have 14 days to exchange it.

That's an aside; this whole thing is just silly now. "Oooh, update tomorrow!" for every day for a week now. It's just a bit much. There's been no word since the adsense thing on Google, so it's not even like we have anything to go on, or any more evidence of a refresh.
I think that it's time to just accept that if you really want a Mac, just get one.
