As far as the Mac mini is concerned, I would personally like to see it and the Apple TV merged. Apple could supplant the mini DVI port presently on the Mac mini with an HDMI port, and incorporate the Apple TV software into the Snow Leopard build of OS X for the Mac mini.

Big discounts on refurbs.

There's no question new macs are coming. If it was a spec bump we would not see them clearing the channel out in this fashion.

When the refresh happened earlier this year it was simply announced with no hooplah and there were plenty of the previous model Macs still in the stores at the time.

We are making the big hooplah though...the only solid evidence we've had is FCC pics of the new keyboard and mouse. But even that doesn't mean NEW iMacs...this simply could still be a minor update if one at all.

So AppleTV will now cost at least $499?

Or maybe just release an app/os for AppleTV and just have it purchasable and installed on any computer so you can run it like a true HTPC.

If that happens I'm getting a 2.53 immediately. If not I may well wait for the new MBP and build a hackintosh for now.

11.10am in cupertino and counting...

Nothing's "counting" - today's a holiday and the post office doesn't work, so no invites can go out.

Besides, I told you guys a million times - no updates. The chips are not available (at least not economically), and won't be available until Arrandale next year. For now, they're staying with C2D, and it just doesn't makes sense to redesign the cases for the same old chipset. Relax, nothing's happening until next year. The occasional shortages are normal ebb and flow in the channel in preparation for the holiday season. Have you noticed how sometimes there are longer shipping periods, and then suddenly there's again plenty of supply and there is no more shipping delays? Take a look at the Apple store iMacs - all except one are 24 hour shipping. C'mon I know this is a rumors site, but at least make the rumors believable.

NO UPDATES UNTIL NEXT YEAR!!

I hope you're wrong.

Every iMac on the US site is shipping within 24 hours except 1 (the 2.4 GHz that ships in 1-3 business days).

He's not the ONLY one who doesn't think so...the only real evidence we have of something going on is the FCC pics of the keyboard and mouse, but even then that doesn't mean new iMacs or any other updates. This has been blown out of proportion...don't expect much if anything.

You will notice that while some of us have this same opinion and some of us have alternative opinion, nobody is as vociferous about this as you are, trying to state your opinion as fact.

There have been some good analysis in this thread on why, even if Apple goes with Arrendale next year for the notebook line they still might choose to go Clarksfield or some other chip for the iMac line.

You previously mentioned that supply problems, etc, might be the sole explanation for Apple's warning about stock shortages and the increasing wait times seen on more and more of the iMac line. Now, today, we see a huge hoard of high end iMacs available in the refurb store at huge discounts, which is yet another sign that Apple is emptying the channel of the current model to make way for something new.

It would be much appreciated if after your continued statement of your opinion as fact if you would pop in and eat some humble pie if and when you might be proven wrong on this.

Just checked US online store for all iMacs 5 minutes ago...everything says Ships within 24hrs.

The only one that doesn't says it ships 1-3 business days...

what shortages?

The alum iMac enclosure is 2 years old and counting, its time for some kind of refresh of the design. It uses a lot of aluminum and it doesnt have to. Im betting something new before the end of this month and before the holidays.

Just a few days ago 1-3 day delays were showing on almost all of the iMac line. Amazon and other retailers were also dry.

If that situation has completely changed then yes, it throws the rumors into some doubt.

Windows 7 is here, and the price and specs of the iMac line are old-fashioned.

This is the simple and unique reason so i think it's necessary an inminent update

Education Store

The Education Store says ships - 2weeks. Why would they prevent students or consumers who get an education discount from purchasing something that might be outdated in a week or so? Lets hope they are making education store consumers aware of an update!:D

The resellers are short on supply and have been asking when they are getting new stuff, with no reply. Could just be a slowdown, or trying to clear the shelves. Who knows.

Sometimes educational models are different specs. I know for my school they recommend some custom builds over the stock which would take longer. But otherwise I don't know.

Right last week we heard rumors of shortages...now it seems that everything is back in stock. Personally it seems like we blew these rumors out of proportion and we won't be seeing a "big" refresh. We haven't had any real evidence, and I mean evidence outside of what people have posted here, evidence that is gathered by other blogs besides this one, that would point to major changes.

If nothing happens tomorrow (suprise with all things on the Applestore, on inivation), I am very doubtful that it will be an update this fall. It was two weeks ago that EDU date changed to 14 days, so it will probably be reversed in the near future. And when you do not hear a word from Apple or any rumors, I consider it as a very small risk that something really happens.

Not a word in rumors (last was for eight days ago, yeah!) or Apple. Apple does not usually tell you things, but something should be labeled if there is still such a major update on the way - right?

The big problem is how to do now for me - I do not want to buy the current iMac as it was not affordable for five cents. You are an idiot if you buy such a machine today with the performance and for the price. Ugh.

It leans almost to a Psystar Corporation for my way - which seems to have both OS X and best hardware in the computer, something that Apple apparently does not fix.

Sorry, Apple.

I think that someone posted that in the last refresh they sent out an update the Friday before the Tuesday refresh itself took place.

It's a tough economy. It seems almost certain that Apple has to act in order to capture as much share during the holiday as possible.

A two pronged approach really does seem best. Lower price entry level iMacs at prices that compete better with Windows 7 products, as well as some more meat in the high end to get current owners to upgrade sooner.
