Columbus Day

Perhaps because of the US Holiday (Columbus Day), we are not seeing any new news on the refresh front. Perhaps tomorrow we will see some invitations, or at least some leaked (photoshoped) elevator photos! :D

Personally it seems like we blew these rumors out of proportion and we won't be seeing a "big" refresh. We haven't had any real evidence, and I mean evidence outside of what people have posted here, evidence that is gathered by other blogs besides this one, that would point to major changes.
AppleInsider's been the main source of these update rumors and they do not detail major changes. Major as in the event, large upgrade, or significant redesign sense.

I think that someone posted that in the last refresh they sent out an update the Friday before the Tuesday refresh itself took place.

It's a tough economy. It seems almost certain that Apple has to act in order to capture as much share during the holiday as possible.

A two pronged approach really does seem best. Lower price entry level iMacs at prices that compete better with Windows 7 products, as well as some more meat in the high end to get current owners to upgrade sooner.
Yes, but I doubt that they are launching something in the same week that Windows 7 is launched, it would be foolish for Apple.

This week had been absolutely perfect. But no, no, no.

hmmm.... I am becoming increasingly sceptical about there being any sort of event or major design change... if anything I think we'll probably get a speed bump on the processor side, up to 4Gb standard RAM and possibly GPU change because of the Nvidia-intel issues..... and if there are any design changes maybe it will get fractionally thinner.... not really
worthy of an event... sadly.

Current price of a 2.8 ghz T9600 $316.00 Launched Q3-08
Current price of a Core i7-720QM (6M Cache, 1.60 GHz) $364.00 Launched Q3-09
Unfortunately, if you are aiming for the MacBooks:

Core 2 Duo T9600 Thermal Design Point: 35W
Core i7 720QM Thermal Design Point: 45W

Thus the Core i7 Mobile doesn't seem likely in a thin and light notebook. However, it it rumored that next year's dual-core Arrandale will have a Thermal Design Point (TDP) of just 35W. Arrandale is basically the thin and light version of the Core i7 Mobile (same architecture family) but it includes an integrated graphics processor which would be fantastic for situations where you need long battery runtime. Of course, you'll be able to include a discrete graphics processor which can be switched in when you need better performance.

Further, if you include the platform controller hub (PCH) in the TDP the Arrandale situation looks even better. Here is a comparison of today's 2.66GHz MacBook Pro with switchable NVIDIA 9400M and a potential Arrandale with its PCH:

Core 2 Duo T9550 (35W) + NVIDIA 9400M (13W) = 48W TDP
Arrandale (35W) + PM55 (3.5W) = 38.5W TDP

Only down side is that Intel's integrated graphics processor in Arrandale will probably have a performance that will only be somewhat better than one half of the NVIDIA 9400M. However, ignoring that, the above TDPs are for equivalent functionality (i.e. CPU + graphics + i/o controller).

I sold my iMac just over a week ago in hopes a new designed iMac would launch soon. So many rumors a couple of weeks ago and not a word recently. Nothing is happening this week and the next two weeks will belong to Microsoft. Hopefully we will get a new iMac by the end of the month. My wife is a bit upset that I've taken the MacBook away from her. If they don't release a new iMac this year i'm going to have a rough time with the wife.

well it could still be tomorrow or Friday, but I tell ya, if it's not by this week, I'm going to place my order for the 2.93 C2D 24"

Did you ship it already? I sold mine too, however, I listed "handeling" time as 10 days. This should be enough time for the updates to come, hopefully, if they dont come, I will just issue a refund and keep my iMac!

Regardless, I need a new computer. My plan is as follows. I'm going to buy a computer sometime first week of November. If by some miracle - which I absolutely do not expect - they update the iMac to include the Ci-7 chips (which I don't believe), and also move to a LED screen, then I'll buy a 24". If the update (which I don't believe will happen) doesn't include these two items, or there is no update at all (which is what I think), then I'll buy the Mac Mini - the current lowest one, or should they update them (which I don't think will happen), I'll buy the new one. Hopefully with 6.2 preinstalled. We'll see.

During my most recent trip to the Apple Store Regent Street, Apple's flagship store in UK, for reasons reported here.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/800750/

I over heard a conversation between the Stores general manager and some senior management from Apple UK.

From what I understood the graphics cards will be new and there will be a new mouse and keyboard. I didn't hear any date mentioned but they did say soon.

I know some of you will shoot me down for this but I know what I heard.

I'm sure we'll soon know one way or another. :):)

Illusion doesn't prevail this time. Its eager and sacred word awaits in the lion's lies. everybody could maybe see the entourage that leaves our rumors on this forum in fierce and angry posts that will inevitably destroy all of you.

I believe you, but I'm optimistic! :D

However, if the new Intel Core i7 Mobiles aren't yet shipping in quantities to enable introduction of a new product using that processor then Apple won't announce anything. It seems that there are indications from the other PC vendors that the Core i7 Mobile products won't ship until late in October (thus, one might expect Oct. 20 or Oct. 27 for an Apple Tuesday event). In fact, as far as I can tell there hasn't been even one review on a shipping product using the new Core i7 Mobile processor. The only units that have thus far been seen are in prototypes from Intel.

The mouse is rumored and the keyboard is with the mouse. But I haven't seen rumors on new graphics cards. Interesting.

FCC filings with pictures, then pulled by Apple almost immediately says there are new mouse and keyboards coming...the rumor would be multi-touch mouse and who knows for the keyboard.
