If it's an actual event it should be good for more than a spec bump, unless they are just having the event to show off the new kb and mouse.

No, that's the desktop version of the Core i7 which has been available since much earlier in the year. The chip they are using in that "notebook" has a Thermal Design Point of 130W (just for the processor, the chip set appears to add another 28W). This is the kind of "notebook" that you need to leave plugged into the wall and which probably has a set of fans that sound like a vacuum cleaner.

The speculation is that the next major revision in the iMac will use the quad-core Core i7 MOBILE processor which Intel officially announced about three weeks ago.

FWIW, a large Swedish home electronics chain has the low-end MBP down from 12490 to 11490 SEK this week.
Maybe doesnt seem that remarkable from US point of view, but here prices are generally very stable (same as Apple Store), and markdowns like this are very rare. Refurb option not available here either.

Today looks like a good day for an update, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see invites today or tomorrow for an event next week. It seems to me that if they have a fancy new multi touch mouse that they would want to demonstrate it at an event and show off the newest designs.

Could be spectacularly wrong though.

And the overall of this posts are:

You want slimmer

You want quad core

If it's slimmer it doesn't have space for quad core...ever tought about the quad cores even smaller..hann!? it wouldn't take so much space lololol

And if it's quad core, you say that the most people that use iMac's doesn't use the full potential of the iMac.

Ok, so where do we go from here?

Personally i would prefer quad core to being slimmer, i'm in the graphic design / movie editing business, it would be great to have a powerfull machine to take all the action that i need in Premiere, and making full size print jobs, and to have a lot...a lot of files open at the same time. But, if it slimmer i don't say no, my desktop is always a mess full of papers pen's pencil's the iphone a tablet, cup's...my god, if i hade something more elegant on top of it it would look nicer..or not lololol. So i say, quad core GO!!

Unless good ol' uncle Steve would devide the iMac line in, thinner + dual core and normal size + quad core...that would make sense, wouldn' it?

I am looking to get myself a 15" MacBook Pro
Do you think its safe to do so ?? Not heard its getting any updates

Have been waiting to see what the new iMacc is like but getting fed up with waiting

All UK stores still showing Macbooks, Mac Minis and iMacs shipping at 24 hours

Yes but add an Apple Remote on the 3.06 and it says shipping 8 Days! Change any of the spec and the shipping goes between 3-5 days unless you add that remote...

Also Amazon.co.uk is only showing 2 iMac 24" 3.06 in stock and says more comming soon... other iMacs are also showing as low stock with more comming soon! Amazon resellers are still showing some stock tho

OMG new remote design!!!

/Sarcasm

It isnt just about whether the majority of iMac users would benefit from quad core, its about getting the most bang for your buck hardware wise, and apple charging premium prices for what is now second rate hardware.

Fair enough, more or less any computer you get from apple is going to be more expensive than a similarly specced PC counterpart, but at the moment the difference is just ridiculous. Eg (using the UK Store pricing as an example)

Low End Macbook Pro 15

2.53ghz Core 2 Duo
4GB DDR3 RAM
250GB HDD
1400*900 15" screen
9400m IGP
Superdrive
£1299

Dell Studio 15.6

Core i7 720M
6GB DDR3
500GB HDD
ATI Radeon 512mb
9 Cell Battery
DVD Rewriter
Full HD 1920 * 1080 HD 15.6 LED Screen
£1010

So for nearly 300 quid less (about $472 US Dollars) your getting a better screen, extra 2GB RAM, Double the HDD Space, one of the best mobile processors on the market.

Long story short would never buy a dell again due to recent past experiences with them, but makes me a hell of alot more reluctant to buy a MBP when there is such a gulf in specs and difference in premium

OMG new remote design!!!

/Sarcasm

My original post was in reply to a comment made about shipping dates in the UK, and pointed out that if you changed anything the date changed to 3-5 days or 8 days for a remote... I do not think I mentioned anything about it being due to a new remote...

clearly you are having a very quiet... and dull day...

<Sarcasm>

looks like no product changes today..... oh well...
not that I was exactly hopeful.... since we have had a few tuesdays that we'd all been waiting for go past with out anything happening in the last weeks......

Good things come to those who wait.

Its 4:30am in Cupertino remember - I wouldn't rule anything out at this moment in time. Let the business day / trading times start at least.

Yeah, I know.... I'm just getting quite pessimistic. And seeing as I'm in the UK, the day feels half over by now, and I'm bad at taking time differences into account.

I live in hope..... and impatience. Quite a lot of impatience.
