You know I first thought Apple wouldn't hold an event the same week Windows 7 launch parties were being held. Now after some thought it would actually be a genius thing to do.
With all the Mac vs. PC commercials and the fact that Apple wants people to know Macs run Windows makes me think there very well could be an event the same week Windows 7 is launched. Great PR.

Are you an actual insider? Why should we give you any acknowledgement of;

newimacsontuesday20th

Not telling you.
Or maybe I will.
This might be a test.

Regrettably.
Eventually you'll find out.
All of you will.
Lies will get you no where.
Lying is bad.
Yes, I might be an insider.

that was awhile ago...Amazon has all models 3-4 business days shipping. The Apple Store (US) has all models shipping 24hrs with one 1-3 business days. Best Buy does everything in store, but I bet if you checked they'd have some too.

Its all back in stock, so now what?

it is NOT directly from amazon, it is from the resellers as other poster said in the previous post ...

yeah well they seem to have it in stock...and so does Apple. We've been debating an update/event for what 2 weeks now...can we let it go yet and if it happens just be excited about it then.

That's all I am saying.

I can understand slightly why everyone is freaking out, but even I am slightly surprised at some of you when the answer is right in front of you. There will be NO new iMacs this week, I don't even understand how some of you could possibly think they would release a new mini, a new imac, and a new mouse and keyboard without an event. That is HALF of there computer line being updated and maybe even more if they update the macbook, of course they will have an event.

Invites for the event will go out on Friday October 16th, the event will be in SF on Tuesday October 20th, at 10 am pacific time. The event will talk about snow leopard at first, and announce the new update, then it will go into the mac mini, then the new keyboard and mouse, then finally the new iMac. It will not happen this week, they planned it perfectly timed to go head to head with windows 7, and closer to the holiday season.

Thank you Crevice

There have been serveral of us on here saying the same thing. But as i'm a newbie there are certain members that won't even acknowledge that we can have any information.

Everyone can chill till next week, the we can get all excited.
:D

I agree, although I think it will be a complete desktop event:

(1) iMacs
Core i7 Mobile Quad (Clarksfield) processors, 2.0 Extreme as a BTO in the high end.
LED screens
Slightly Thinner Design, chin stays
Up to 2.0 TB

(2) Mac Mini
Redesigned Case, w/ black top
Higher-clocked Core 2 Duo's
Starts at $499

(3) Mac Pro
Spec Bump with the more recent Xeon Processors, better graphics, 2.0 TB options, same prices

(4) New Keyboard
Black, Backlit

(5) New Mouse
Multitouch

(6) 20" / 30" LED Cinema Displays

No Blu-Ray, No Macbooks (yet), No Apple TV (sadly, but I think this is coming early next year at a media focused event with the Tablet).

I would suspect that they would do an event just before the windows 7 launch to try and have the biggest impart they could. Do it too early and the media will have published the stories and everyone will be ready for the next big story which would be windows 7

Lil Orphan Annie

That's what I was going to say! All the reading I've done this year on this site points to evidence of "when there's a public holiday, any Tuesday event / activity is usually moved to the Wednesday."

But as everyone keeps saying.. it's just another way of making 'tomorrow' more believable / hopeful

I think if it is put this way it just sounds so much better. "The Sun will come out, tomorrow, tomorrow, the sun will come tomorrow.''

Sorry all I could think of.

Unless there is new software to demo; some new "story" to the mac; or a 20-30 minute hit job on Windows 7, there will be no event.

Even with a new iMac, new mac mini, new polycarbonate macbook, new keyboard, and new mouse, including 5 new ads, how would they fill 40 minutes, let alone in hour?

Your new here aren't you? Apparently someone is about to experience his first dose of the Steve Jobs RDF. :D

A technology demo of a multi-touch mouse and keyboard would take 20 minutes by itself.

Duh.

20 minutes? let's be realistic.

Multitouch is nothing new to the mac platform. The introduction of the glass trackpad took 2 minutes - a whole 2 minutes.

hambone,
No one is asking you to view or even give your input to a thread devoted to a possible update/event. It is obviouslly not going to be let go. All indications seem to point to an update(silent or not) or an event. Sit back, relax and continue reading. When the announcement comes we can all rejoice/complain about the revised product. Please, no more requests for aborting this thread, it's not going to happen! Good day! :D

I'm like several others here....sitting on my hands waiting for this alleged refresh. The last time I bought a Mac....the Intel chip came out a couple of weeks later and I've been ticked off ever since.

That non-Intel was a G5, and served me well, although it was kind of my first lemon. (I've had a Mac since my toaster Mac Plus II, that had a whopping 8 mb of ram....it still works and I can't let it go.) It had the random shutdown that started on day four, and Apple jerked me around for a year before finally saying Uh, maybe you need to take it in for service. I never bought Apple Care because I never needed it...and they said bring it in right after the warranty was up. However, I did a lot of crying and they took pity on me and made it right. They put in a new power supply and I only had random shutdowns now and then, instead of a few times a day.

But...power supply EXPLODED about two weeks ago. I've always replaced/upgraded parts myself, including power supplies in earlier models, but this one scared me. I live two hours from an Apple store, so was going to take it to Best Buy (who knew they worked on Macs??? but they really don't, they just say they do in their yellow page ad) and have them replace it.

>snip<

This was almost my exact experience. My personal G5 was a lemon. The 3 G5s we bought for the office were lemons.

And I have been loathe to spend more than $2k on an apple machine since.

But dammit, I need the power.

Things have been pretty sweet lately, haven't heard a whole lot of complaining about the Octo Mac Pro's.

Oh well, so much for this week.

I've been putting off getting something for so long I may as well put it off further... (At this point I may as well wait until January.)

Wow, that's a shame. I knew there were issues with the power supply (which I finally found out by Googling...the Apple tech people acted like I was crazy, even though it was all over the place). That's another reason I decided not to replace the power supply. I think there's got to be some kind of issue.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have insisted on a replacement. But it was like my 6th or 7th Mac and I'd never had a spot of trouble before. (Other than things wearing out)

I hope Crevice is right. I'm also new to this forum and have been following it and waiting for any news that might become available. I finally decided, after a lot of research, to switch from PC to an iMac. I convinced my wife this was the way to go and went to a local Apple Specialist -Reseller (not an Apple Store) 2 weeks ago to order an iMac 24". They told me that I may want to wait because they suspected that there would be some sort of update to the iMac line. Of course they didn't know any more specifics than anyone else. So, like many others, I'm searching the forums trying to find any information I can.

The thing that I find interesting is that if Apple is so concerned about information leaks then I'm sure they are also following these forums as well. There are obviously a significant amount of consumers that are holding off on purchases pending some sort of announcement from Apple. I would suspect that if these truly were just rumors then Apple would have made a statement by now that there were no such upgrades, refreshes, speed bumps, price drops, etc. planned for the near future in order to allow their customers and/or potential new customers to proceed with their purchasing decisions.

Maybe those of us that are waiting aren't really significant in Apple's eyes.
Maybe we should quit waiting and just purchase a shiny new PC loaded with Windows 7. I know when that will be released.

Who posted backlit keyboard? That'll break my heart...I just bought a Saitek keyboard a month or two ago. And I'll never go back to unlit, either. It's a miracle.

I have an entire WALK IN closet full of Macs, keyboards and parts. I'm an Apple hoarder. It's actually kind of sad, but I can't let go.

Multitouch is nothing new to the mac platform. The introduction of the glass trackpad took 2 minutes - a whole 2 minutes.

It took MS five minutes to show off the technology with no narrative and no real application demos.

Everyone knows what a track pad is, showing that it can pinch and swipe is not that big of a deal.

Showing a mouse/keyboard that can do all of those things is a much bigger thing because it is new to people.

Let's break it down and be very conservative;

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 enhancements and roadmap - 5 minutes

KB/Mouse introduction - 5 minutes

KB/Mouse application demo - 10 minutes. They will show the technology being used in a variety of applications possibly/probably having guest speakers showing its use with Photoshop, etc.

Mac Mini refresh - 3 mins

MBP refresh - 2 mins

new Macbook - 5 mins

new iMac line - 10 minutes. They will play up environmental consciousness, lighter/thinner packaging, LED backlighting, lower power consumption, etc.

Looks like a good 30-45 minutes in my book.

They will never tell their plans to anyone. If info gets out then it's leaked and someone will be fired. I think it's going to be a major update since nothing has leaked.

Steve Jobs said at the iPod event that "he'll be seeing us really soon"! That has to mean that really soon is 10-20-2009! (or that week) !
