It took MS five minutes to show off the technology with no narrative and no real application demos.

Everyone knows what a track pad is, showing that it can pinch and swipe is not that big of a deal.

Showing a mouse/keyboard that can do all of those things is a much bigger thing because it is new to people.

Let's break it down and be very conservative;

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 enhancements and roadmap - 5 minutes

KB/Mouse introduction - 5 minutes

KB/Mouse application demo - 10 minutes. They will show the technology being used in a variety of applications possibly/probably having guest speakers showing its use with Photoshop, etc.

Mac Mini refresh - 3 mins

MBP refresh - 2 mins

new Macbook - 5 mins

new iMac line - 10 minutes. They will play up environmental consciousness, lighter/thinner packaging, LED backlighting, lower power consumption, etc.

Looks like a good 30-45 minutes in my book.

You forgot the sales statisitcs on everything apple and how they're selling more iPhone's in more countries and the new download rate of video's coming from iPod Nanos to YouTube, yada yada yada. Thats an additional 15 mins.

Yada yada yada

You know when a thread or a rumor has been beaten to death when you see posts that claim to be new information or some type of insightful and unique analysis when all you need to do is go back several pages to find the same speculation or analysis by someone else.

So let me do the same. Here is all the information you need to know -- new Macs in one to two weeks -- or maybe not. ;)

Yeah, I'm going to go back to the homepage and hope that I see a new story regarding something other then Disney from this morning, perhaps an invitation?

After faithfully following this thread, I have had to scratch out the definition of the word "imminent" in my handy desk dictionary and write in a new one...

I think we have different expectations for what a "multi-touch" mouse would be for Apple.

A keyboard is still a keyboard and a mouse is still a mouse, and I doubt we'll see a big change in the keyboard. Also, new really high-tech, complicated peripherals that could be fairly expensive doesn't gel with more affordable iMacs.

Just playing with my mouse right now, to me a multi-touch mouse would essentially replicate the trackpad. You move the mouse to navigate. Click, optional right click, slide 2 fingers down to scroll, 3 finger swiping, expose on the side, and a way to access app switching, and pinching.

It seems pretty natural.

They will never tell their plans to anyone. If info gets out then it's leaked and someone will be fired. I think it's going to be a major update since nothing has leaked.

Steve Jobs said at the iPod event that "he'll be seeing us really soon"! That has to mean that really soon is 10-20-2009! (or that week) !

You're overplaying this as much as I'm down playing it. Basically my point is there has been almost no REAL news on this since the FCC pics of the keyboard and mouse.

That happens to be our only real solid evidence of changes to the iMac from here on out. When theres a new design around, it is generally leaked, even if its not the correct design and a complete fake. But no one has attempted to even give a fake concept. Major updates are also accompanied by a long list of rumors where this one has been pretty shaky at best.

We have exhausted the chipset possibilities and combinations...

My bets are still with big changes to the keyboard and mouse which means changes to the iMac. An event would follow. That event could be in 1 week or it could be next year.;)

Actually a multi touch mouse could potentially cost less than a conventional mouse since there would be no moving parts.

I agree! I'm just trying to hang on to some hope!

Another Tuesday - and no New iMac

Another Tuesday - and no New iMac announced.

My C.C. is ready to use - and I need to get the new iMac ordered and delivered ASAP.

I really want a new mac mini... lets hope that the event will be on Oct 20. and they start there whole invite thing on the 16th. If we dont get anything on the 20th, other than the disappointment, I'll just get the current Mac mini. Since all I want to used it on is my home theater.

Just like SSDs. Oh, wait...:)

I've been planning to get a new iMac for weeks now, and have been hanging on based on this thread and all the rumors. I'm about to bite the bullet and just get one. (Which means, with my luck, they will come out the next day, and I will have helped everyone else)

I'm thinking of negotigating with the store manager that I will buy now, if they will waive the restock fee if anything comes out in 14 days - anyone ever had luck with this?

Why not buying online? I got a new MBP on Monday and if new MBP will be released next tuesday i'll return mine. But maybe they announce the new hardware tomorrow?

Introducing the new Apple eyeMac! It's so thin and petite we install it in your eyelid! HD space contingent on brain size! :D

I was watching a show, Lie to Me, on tv last night. Kind of a CSI-style show.

They had a scene where a Mac computer was panned across the screen and it was an iMac that looked VERY thin and I immediately jumped up and said --- "There they are, the new iMacs!" Of course, that may not have been the case, but they were A LOT thinner than my wife's G5 iMac and SHINIER than the new intel iMacs... just a thought.

OLED would be nice nonetheless.

Video post-processing? ;) :p

Great video!

Or would that be incredible?!

Either way it was remarkably easy to click your awesome link! ;)

If what Apple customer relations told me last week is correct, the iMac I ordered Sept 18/09, is due to ship Oct 19/09. It will be next Tuesday, before Apple does anything.

I wonder if Apple does this to make all the Mac people go goofy with speculation??

Wow, over a month before they ship, and then they send you an iMac a day before they announce new ones (hopefully) what a giant kick in the teeth. . .

Saw it too, they were just Intel aluminum iMacs.

My chat with Grace from Apple regarding newer iMac's! In Bold are the interesting par

You are chatting with Grace G, an Apple Expert
Hi, my name is Grace G. Welcome to Apple!

You: Hi!

You: Thank you!

Grace G: How are you?

You: I am seriouslly considering purchasing a iMac, but have a few concerns.

Grace G: I'm happy to assist with that.

You: My first concern would be I'm seeing two different shipping estimates, 2 weeks in the Education store (Elmhurst College) and 24 hrs in the regular store. What is the reason for the different shipping estimates?

Grace G: I can't speculate.

Grace G: Apple is aware of the discrepancy and working to address it.

You: ok

You: second question!

Grace G: Sure thing!

You: what are the benefits for buying a refurb over a current new iMac. They look to be the same machines and have a significant discount.

You: Thank you for your patients, and I'm pleased that you were readily available for chat!

Grace G: No problem!

Grace G: I'm happy to help.

You: :)

Grace G: The refurbished models are a great value.

Grace G: The only con would be that we can not custom configure them for you.

Grace G: If you find a model that will work well for you as it is, the refurbished models are an excellent choice.

You: ahh so I cant upgrade memory or a hard drive?

You: How current are the components used in these machines?

Grace G: Which specific model are you looking at?

You: might there be newer, better faster components on the horizon?

You: the 20 2.66ghz but with a bigger Hard Drive

Grace G: I wish I could help but I don't have any information on unreleased and unannounced products.
You: my son tells me that Hard Drives are not as large as they use to be

You: so I should get a larger one

Grace G: Well, media takes up more space because it is higher quality, yes.

You: but I doubt I need a faster machine, i'm assuming that the numbers with the GHZ are the speeds of the machine?

You: horsepower if you will

You: im big in to cars

You: !

Grace G: Yes, the GHz refers to the processor which is like the engine of the machine.

You: so for checking email and looking at photos I dont think I need an 8 cylinder, I should go for a 4 cylinder which would be the 2.66GHZ, am I correct? But what I need is a larger Trunk!

You: Thank you for understanding my analogies, I dont know much about computers, let alone an Apple one!

Grace G: No problem!

Grace G: We are definitely on the same page.

You: I'm thinking about making the switch from a gateway I had for years!

Grace G: Awesome!

Grace G: Do you plan to store a lot of movies?

Grace G: Video tends to take up the most space.

You: no I just got a Blue Ray player for my birthday!

Grace G: Very cool!

Grace G: What do you plan to store?

You: yeah do these come with a blue ray player as an option in custom order?

Grace G: Macs do not currently include that option.

You: photos and websites

You: so no DVD player?

You: sorry if im taking up too much of your time

Grace G: Not at all. I'm here to help

Grace G: Yes a DVD player is included.

You: thank you

Grace G: It is not Blu-Ray though.

You: ohhh ok. Just not a Blue Ray.

Grace G: Right.

You: ok, so how long do you think you will have refurbished iMac's?

Grace G: The refurbished models are constantly updated based on availability so what's available now may or may not be available in a couple days or even a couple hours.

Grace G: Based on what you've told me about how you plan to use your Mac, the 2.66GHz model will work very well for you.

You: WOW! These Apple's are a really hot item? I didn't believe my son!

Grace G: The internal hard drive can not be upgraded but you can always add an external hard drive later on, if you need to.

Grace G: It's true.

You: ok do yo sell thoes!

Grace G: We do.

You: ahh ok

Grace G: Click Here Please

You: do you have a class to show me how this works?

Grace G: Those are our current refurbished iMac models.

You: thank you!

Grace G: Be sure to purchase One to One with your Mac.

Grace G: You can add it within the 14 day return policy.

You: ok can I add that to a refurbished website you provided me?

Grace G: That way you can take classes at your local Apple store.

You: That sounds great!

Grace G: Just another minute...

You: ok

Grace G: One to One is not available online with a refurbished model but you can purchase it from your local Apple store within the 14 day return policy.

You: thank you! I would like to go in and see a sales person anyway! My son says that the service from Apple is great!

Grace G: :)

You: He's always happy when he comes home from the mall

You: well, thank you for your help and I'm sorry if I took up too much of your time

Grace G: Glad to hear it!

You: I hope you dont get in trouble for chating wtih me too long

Grace G: Not at all! Have a great day!

You: thank you you too!

Grace G: Thanks!
