This isn't exactly news, in fact, it's the opposite, but here it goes.

Just got back from the Apple store (I didn't buy cuz they wouldn't promise to waive the restocking fee). But, even though the guy specifically told me he hasn't heard anything about updates (the standard line), he did keep insisting that next week is earnings time. And as has been said before in this forum, Apple doesn't like releasing updates the week of earnings releases. That was his view, while maintaining the standard line that "no update has been announced" to the retail stores.

If, IF, it happens this year, it's going to be Nov. No matter how much we all care about Apple products, the 24 hour news cycle will focus on Win 7 release next week, not on a new iMac or Macbook.

You could be totally correct, and so could OldCorpse. But in know a reseller that is going out there for "something" next week. That's all I know and all I have reported on here.

I don't think any of us will know for sure and since Old Corpse is well Old he may just know something. Or he could just be senile, but we do know for sure the he is grumpy. :D

I'm not saying "no update." Just saying, it won't interfere with all the stuff going on next week. Hope I'm wrong.

A question for the forum, IF there is an update next week, and IF it affects the Pro, how much price adjustment do people think will be given to the lower end 13" MBP?

Wouldn't this be nice?
An iMac + a 'Small" ssd + 500 GB Harddisk,both 2.5"
Would be nice and fast.
OS + Apps on SSD and All your Pics-Music-Media on the other disk.
For those dummies Apple could add links to the right pos. on the main startup disk, like Music folder-Documents-Movies and the like.

Hardware is something physical, software is a program.

Then there's "vapourware" which can be either software or hardware which is hinted or rumoured (and even advertised in some cases), but never actually arrives .. like the new iMacs. ;)

I have also noticed that this thread seems to get confused about pages.

It's not just this thread. I've noticed it in many topics. I was going to ask about it, but I see someone has posted the answer above (apparently caused by messages being deleted).

Saying that they'll never announce new products during earnings week makes just about as much sense as saying that they'll never announce new products during a total eclipse of the sun. Just because it's never happened or that it is rare doesn't mean that it couldn't -- the events could just be completely unconnected and unlikely to fall on the same day or week.

New products will be announced when the inventories (both old and new) allow such an introduction and at a time that most benefits Apple.

Apple typically doesn't, that is true, but after the last quarter earnings they released Final Cut and Logic Studio (2 days later).

Apple usually announces no new products just BEFORE the quarter earnings. Next tuesday sounds like the perfect time for an event (either one focused on Desktops, or one focused on making products "thinner").

I think we will see something next week, if not in Jan. I am hoping this net book has had 2 Trojans already, My bank called me and told me ..after I checked yep 281 bad files :(

I want my mac back!

I bought some 2.5" to 3.5" adapter kits that fit dual drives so it's possible to do it with the space you have in there.

I'm thinking now of buying a 2.53 13" uMBP and sticking a X25-M Gen2 drive in it. I reckon it'll be the fastest computer I've had.

I sold my iMac 20 inch 4 weeks ago went and got the 24 inch from best buy and after 13 days I went to bring it back thinking the new iMacs were coming out last week and paid 216$ in restocking fees. Bb sucks

I returned an iMac not too long ago and didn't have to pay a restocking fee at Best Buy so maybe they just do not like you. :)

I do not think Best Buy charges a restocking fee on desktop computers unless it was a special order. This is from their website for in-store returns.

Restocking fee
A restocking fee is applicable in some product categories, unless you are a Reward Zone Program Premier Silver member, the item is defective, or the fee is prohibited by law.
The restocking fee charges are:
25% for Special Order Products, including appliances
15% for opened notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS navigation and in-car video systems
10% for Apple® iPhones

Maybe you should take your receipt to a manager and get your money back unless it was a special order.

Apple Store refurb section has just updated on the UK website. Check this out:

And this is the non-refurb section:

Essentially what they're doing is, selling off all the current stock in the refurb store for immediate delivery and the actual online store (non-refurb) has a 5 day shipping frame.

Something is up.

iMacs still shipping w/in 24 hrs. in Canada

Up here in Canada all the iMac models except the 24" 2.66GHz are shipping w/in 24 hrs. and the 2.66GHz is shipping w/in 1-3 days...

My co-worker calls this whole waiting game "The Apple Folly," forever waiting to buy your computer because they're going to update them...

Your co-worker's right...

Apple almost always waits before releasing new machines until stock levels of the existing model throughout the supply chain are "low enough" ... sometimes that means they decide to delay the release longer than originally planned.

As long as you know the "rules", then waiting for new releases isn't a folly at all. Apple has a semi-regular release schedule, so if you buy a new Mac within a couple months of a new one being released you know that a newer one isn't likely to be released for at least another four / six months. If you buy after a real new model is released, then you know a speed bump might be six months away, but a brand new version is at least a year away.

With most other companies you have absolutely no idea when they are going to release anything until the press release goes out.

it's not the FCC as much as the lack of stock of iMacs and Mac Mini's that is leading people to think there are new Macs on the horizon.

I agree. You can't get around the fact that APple has discontinued the low end Mac Mini and that everybody is running out of both models. That means the Mac Mini line is being updated. The only question is when Apple will release the new inventory? Next Tuesday seems reasonable as it wouldn't make much of a splash to do it AFTER Windows 7.

I hope it's next Tuesday. I've been saying that for 3 weeks though :)

Apple Store clearance section has just updated on the UK website. Check this out:

Don't understand. Clearance and Refurb are two different things. Those just look like Mac Mini refurbished units..Those are different than new units and they aren't clearance.
