Let's say you are Apple, and you really are coming out with something new relatively soon, but you have too much inventory to justify Osborne-ing yourself.

What do you do? You shut up, until inventory is truly low enough, then you start yapping.

I think we are just in a little lull, where they are waiting for inventory to truly flush and Win 7 press to flare up and die down a little.

Then they make their hardware bump, big or small as it may be.

Don't understand. Clearance and Refurb are two different things. Those just look like Mac Mini refurbished units..Those are different than new units and they aren't clearance.

exactly, mac mini pops up on occasion, not a big surprise

Perhaps the "leak" to Apple Insider should have happened later, and closer to the actual release, instead of almost 4 weeks (or more) before the arrival of the new models. Yes, I am blaming the messenger.

I think that the latest rumor about the Mac Pro potentially getting the new six core Gulftown CPU months ahead of other computers might be some insight into what is going to happen with other Apple model refreshes in the next few weeks.

Care to elaborate on this 'insight'?

Apple Store clearance section has just updated on the UK website. Check this out:

And this is the non-clearance section:

Essentially what they're doing is, selling off all the current stock in the refurb store for immediate delivery and the actual online store (non-clearance) has a 5 day shipping frame.

Something is up.

A load of imacs have just appeared on the UK refurb store as well, I reckon they are all new and they are just clearing stock

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/imac

Something is going on.

I check daily on iMac referb section as I was looking for an iMac until I read the rumours. What I saw there this morning was nothing new. Some days you get 4-5 imacs some days nothing at all. They sell very quickly

there's a online store here in portugal, that they used to have the 4 models of the iMacs although you can buy only one online. it as been a lot of weeks that has been like this. i've check today and there's nothing there, and when i say nothing i mean nothing, nothing to buy online not even the pictures of the imacs are there, the page is blank, and every where, at least the stores that sells the mac's, there's almost no models available, there's a note sayin "Confirm".

now i'm convinced that in fact, there's something going on

The UK Refurb store has seen a lot more activity in the last few weeks, hardly ever would a Mac Mini or (a standard) Macbook appear. Most of the iMac's (and Air's) have been on there for about ten days, same with MBP's .. nice to see a farily well stocked UK Refurb store for whatever reason :)

coincidental competition?

I am awaiting the arrival of the imminent iMac..

I read this news about a new el cheapo HP laptop.
HP acquired the 'Compaq' name awhile back.

I'm neither planning to purchase one nor am I peddling them.
Given the price point, it appears to dovetail with the overall economy.

Objective critiques with a comparative Apple 'puter?

"Compaq CQ61z (pictured), a 15.6-inch laptop with an AMD Sempron CPU, 2GB of RAM, DVD burner, 160GB hard drive, and discrete graphics. Running Windows 7 Home Premium, the machine costs a nearly unfathomable $399."

That's pretty cheap...

HP was also named the #1 Greenest Fortune 500 company by Newsweek, sorry Apple.

we will know by this time next week

anyone got any good tips on how to exercise patience here? Something that doesn't involve me coming to this thread or checking the Apple Store every 20 minutes throughout the entire day?!
