My take on it is this - if its going to be a redesign of any Apple system, Apple will never go without having a dedicated event for it. Apple loves its marketing, and rightly so - its a business at the end of the day.

As is/was highly talked about across the internet, the iMac is most probably going to see a redesign - in which case, Steve is going to want to come on stage with his jeans and black cape to announce it.

The MacBook was a notable exception.

There IS a change

Guys - I did notice a change. There are now, in addition to the usual Education Store, new stores for Business and Government. I've never seen that before.

i'm beginning to agree with you now. they would have an event now..

But marketing gimmicks and etc is complete hogwash if it's still the same iMacs and Mac Mini's. Does Apple know that their desktop consumer line is complete crap right now?

If Old Corpse is right, I think it'll cost Apple quite a bit of sales. There are a lot of new PCs coming out for the Windows 7 launch. There are also a lot of people who will finally upgrade from XP, or otherwise get a computer for the holidays. Now if a new iMac comes out to compete with these other new all-in-ones PCs, people may look Apple's way. But for most people, especially in this economy, they will look at those new all-in-one PCs with quad-core, blu-ray, etc and look at their prices and then look at what comes with an iMac for the price ... and go with the PC. Especially if they hear of potential rumors of an update to the iMac that doesn't materialize. I don't think an advertising campaign based on the impossibility to upgrade to Windows 7 will sway that many people, since most will be buying an entirely new computer.

so... I am hoping for the update. I'm pretty confident about the update coming this month or November, given the amount of attention out there from various reliable sources. But, who knows, Old Corpse, you have a 50/50 shot - there will either be an update or there won't. Let me just say that if there is no update, Apple will lose this customer (who uses a PC and is willing to give Mac a try for the first time - if they update the system).

I was stuck at best buy refreshing the Apple store, a Apple guy(works for Apple) and I were chatting,BB has no stock of imacs at all he said the refresh will be soon, I want to believe!

I do think he Knows something he did say the white macbook will have rounded corners and maybe a lit keyboard, also said something about it being 899.00

Just a little info had my iPhone was going to record it.

your singing quite a different tune so quickly.

I think this was an obvious reason to wake up and calm down from the rumors with little credit.

I don't think new macs would really help sell people without blu-ray. When I look at all-in-ones, and I see the Sony model that has blu-ray, can act as a stand alone TV or just a screen, you just can't compare the iMac vs. the rest of the all-in-ones.

Nothing will stop Apple from selling units though, so no worries.

Just frustrated. I sold my iMac already and might have to refund the moneyto the person I sold it to. Plus I, like evryone else, really want to see new gadgets in the Apple Store.

I too would like Blu-Ray, but anything new would suffice.

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for a refresh on the MacBook (with hopefully a cut in price). But the recent announcement of the new HP Pavilion dm3 is mighty interesting. That with Windows 7 might just push me over the edge. It seems like lately whenever Apple does come out with something new it is so underwhelming it's ridiculous. I do like Mac OS X but there is a lot I like about Windows 7 also and I'm just not sure how much of a premium I'm willing to pay just to stay with OS X.

I love the asus laptop but will wait more :(

I know you're bummed, but you didn't actually sell your iMac based on the rumours did you? Because if so, you might want to rethink that strategy.

There are going to be tons of marketing materials, sales and the what-not, next week all about Windows 7. There will be more than normal foot traffic at the Best Buys of the world.

It would be odd if Apple went up against all that with 7 month old hardware.

HP, Dell, Acer, etc aren't going to show up with their models frozen at a 7 month old spec sheet next weekend, I can assure you that.

i'm buying the refurb 24" iMac right now...I figure I'll get it late next week.. If something comes out earlier, then I can return it without opening and buy the new one.
