Perfect for me -- I could not care less about faster speeds as I'm plenty happy with speeds I get with just plain old LTE, and I'm better served by wider coverage which it looks like the "slower" 5G technology facilitates better, than by faster speeds.

Thanks, Apple!

Also, I would have hated to buy the ridiculously oversized iPhone just to get the 5G I want. My iPhone XS is the perfect size, especially given that I wear my iPhone around my neck with a lanyard.

Miss the days when there was one size and one phone.
And the name was like "5" instead of "11 Pro Max"
But the nicest thing was that 5 fit in pockets comfortably and was easy to hold with one hand. I've switched between the 5 and the 6 a few times, and dang, the newer bigger phone is a downgrade.

5G is one of the biggest tech cons on the American public in recent memory. We'll be having the same discussion about lack of mmWave 5G availability for years to come.

I am going to get the max, but it's very annoying I have to pay more for hardware I don't want, and won't use. (And yes, I have 5G towers in my city).

Consumers: "We want better battery life!"

Apple: "Here's worse battery life, and it's more expensive!"
Given that 5G is the main feature of it, and you're calling it one of the biggest cons, I'm surprised you're still buying the phone.

You know it's funny. All of these same arguments were made when 4G came out. "Nobody needs 4G! 3G is fast enough! I already get great speeds on 3G!" etc. And similarly, people for some reason never mentioned congestion vs. reliability.
Who? 3G always felt slow. It was much slower than home broadband at the time.

I certainly do. I live in a city that Verizon has had MMwave in for well over a year and it’s all over. I get that it’s sparse for most but I would welcome it personally
Given that millimeter wave can be effectively blocked by things like tree foliage and glass, I strongly doubt the usable extent of Verizon's coverage...

For some reason, I’m OK with mmWave being limited to the Pro line - but I’m not OK with it being limited to the larger model. I thought you were supposed to be able to choose whichever size works best for you. That shouldn’t make you a second class citizen.

As the saying goes, what goes around, comes around, and it seems this is true with cell phone size. I remember having one of the original bag phones (Motorola) and my boss, the owner of the manufacturer where I worked, had the original brick Motorola phone (he was a super smart guy but a total schmuck who tried to impress my Walmart buyer by leaving the phone on the table during a meeting. The buyer told me after he left the room, to never bring him with me again, or she would cancel the meeting. I did tell him that, and he wasn’t even embarrassed - or if he was didn’t show it.

So my point before I got sidetracked in the down the wrong corridor in my brain, is that cell phones started out big, shrank to tiny palm-friendly sizes, and have been growing back up in size and weight, as so many people want bigger and bigger screens.

Up to 1 Gbps in mmW? Verizon is already hitting 2 Gbps with early software, and should be able to get 4 Gbps either later this year or early next year.
Awesome. Customers can burn through their 4GB data limit in less than 5 seconds 👍

That sounds great for Verizon.

Edit: whoops, math error on my part. Should be <20 seconds 🙂

It seems a lot of people have huge misconceptions about 5G and all it’s various features and set ups. I suggest you research it and the limits of it. It’s been way over hyped and phone companies are lying their butts off about it. Regular 5G will not be fully implemented nationwide till 2024. TMobils so called nation wide 5G is a joke. I have posted this several times. My best friend from high school is the Mid Atlantic director for Crown Castle a very large cell tower installation and development company. DC metro for example will not have full 5g established until end of 2025. As for 5G mm wave will never make it out of major cities ever. And even then it will be a max area of about 6-8 square miles. Time frame est for Washington DC and the areas inside the city to be fully mm wave operational. Mid 2025.

So they shrunk the batteries, yet still claim there is no space to include both. Back to getting penalized for not wanting the tablet sized phone. At least in the past it was just the camera, and not cellular bands between the normal size and max models.

There’s one outside my house and all throughout my neighborhood

Are there?

So you choose to disregard everything else you’ve heard from many other leaks, and only believe today’s rumor from Fast Company?
Considering I’m responding to *this* article, yes, there would be.

Sounds like the smaller „Pro“ iPhone will be more similar to the standard iPhone 12 than to the real Pro Max...

Honestly, who cares about 1Gb internet on a smartphone? What are people *actually* downloading that makes 1Gb worthwhile? Genuine question.

Don’t get me wrong...gigabit internet over 5G for things like routers to oust cable/broadband companies - YES.

In my iPhone? No thanks, just give me better (marginally slower) signal everywhere, which would seem to be what Apple are thinking.
