No, you are not understanding the difference between gigabits and gigabytes. It would take at least 32 seconds.
I figured at 2Gbps, you can transmit about 2GB in less than 10 seconds. I guess I thought that meant I could transmit twice that amount in half the time 🤣

I should have doubled it, so yeah you could burn that 4GB plan in less than 20 seconds.

Sounds awesome for Verizon 🙂

Honestly, who cares about 1Gb internet on a smartphone? What are people *actually* downloading that makes 1Gb worthwhile? Genuine question.

Don’t get me wrong...gigabit internet over 5G for things like routers to oust cable/broadband companies - YES.

In my iPhone? No thanks, just give me better (marginally slower) signal everywhere, which would seem to be what Apple are thinking.
Well, there wouldn't be any need for wifi either if everything had 5G with sufficiently high data caps. Wifi has many problems I'd like to see disappear, like its awful handoff. But I don't see what 5G has to do with increasing data caps.

The whole industry is counting on the lemming effect when it comes to 5G. People like you who actually THINK for themselves realize that the whole 5G push is pretty meaningless. Who cares if you get 1Gbps on your phone? Seriously. Who care?! You're never going to notice it.
Try stopping your carrier from upgrading their network lol.

In a year or two all smartphones will be 5G and you won’t even be able to buy a 4G-only model, since no one will be making one.

When we get to the world of augmented reality glasses where you can contently be given data with your surrounds you are going to need 5g's fast, reliable and secure data network. 20 years from now people will be looking at old picture of people caring these large devices that they had on their belts or in purses and say look how funny they looked. I just use my augment reality glasses to get all the information I need, right if front of my eye or on my augment reality contacts. :)

Well a lot of people use their phones as wifi hotspots because where they live they can not get high speed internet connections. So for them this is a chance to do things like real gaming or streaming large video files to their homes.

FFS, Apple - stop making features only available to the largest screen size! Some of us want "all the premium" in a smaller form factor! (They've been doing this for a very long time - I remember in 2003 buying my 12" PowerBook G4 and missing out on features the 17" model had. The iPhone 7 Plus getting the second camera but not the smaller iPhone 7, etc.)

Why don’t they just can the 6.1 pro and have only 5.4 and 6.1 non pro then have the 6.7 as the pro phone?

That battery life issue is a bummer. If only there was some other dimension that could be used to put that bit of extra battery. Like a third one or something.

Well, this is kind of good news. 5G -- as of right now -- isn't offering much beyond LTE in a practical sense. But that will change with time. Meanwhile... mmWave 5G only comes with an iPhone I would never buy.

So that settles it... I don't need to buy another phone for at least a couple of years. I'll upgrade when 5G is well on its way to maturity.

Serious question, why on earth do you even need that fast of speed? What are you doing? 4g is more than fast enough to stream 4k hdr video, what on earth does someone need faster speed for?

“Pro” moniker denotes the most featureful, it doesn’t mean the person buying it is a pro. It means it’s at the top of the line.
Except it doesn’t mean that in this case. So you have a “pro” 6.1 device but you have the more “pro” pro at 6.7. Apple needs to just drop the pro moniker.

I had an iPhone 6 Plus prior to my iPhone X and will never go back to a phablet. If this rumor is true, then it'll be a massive disappointment because 5G is available in my city.

I go back and forth. Had a 6S Plus, then iPhone 8, and now XS Max. Planned to go smaller pro model, but LiDAR and this article makes me want to spend the extra $100 for the larger screen, and those extra features. A better value proposition.

Just curious, what makes you definitely never go back to the phablet?

Im not really all that excited about 5G these days. I am home most of the day these days that I even lowered my Verizon plan to the cheapest one possible.

You need an unlimited data plan to be on 5G for all carriers.
All carriers? I presume you mean all US carriers.

I do understand they’re trying to make 5G look very attractive to 4G customers by bundling it with unlimited data. $80/month (Verizon) for 5G isn’t too bad I guess 🤷‍♂️
