What I really want to know, and I think it is a huge problem is: where are the hair color modifiers? Not everyone has dark hair. Likewise, where are the eye color modifiers? It is racist to only have dark eyes.

Freckles! You forgot about freckles! It's racist to not allow emojis with properly-placed freckles.

Do you really think the people who make cosmetic adjustments to emojis are the same people who fix problems with WiFi? They're not.

I hope they're not. If they are the same, that would explain some things :p

Really what happened is that for many years Apple has been a very strong supporter of Unicode, and someone at the company is tasked with making sure that Apple's software is up-to-date with the latest Unicode standard. Their fonts support Mahjong Tiles (U+1F000 to U+1F02B), Domino Tiles (U+1F030 to U+1F093), and Playing Cards (U+1F0A0 to U+1F0DF), because all these are in the Unicode standard. And now Unicode has added support for different Emoji characters, so the guy responsible for keeping up with Unicode does exactly that.

Every emoji should be Simpson yellow, because no human been has that skin tone, and skin tone should not be an issue in emoji since it is emoji and not a profile picture, but people are too sensitive, but I'm ok been Bart Simpson yellow in emoji, I should stop writing in this delicate subject and risk being flamed for free and where is my coffee !

It's amazing that any of you even care that people actually want to see themselves represented, especially since most of you admit to not using emoji. Plenty of people -- all probably cooler and more fun than you -- want to use emoji, and it's pretty silly that for years now there's been a representation of white people of all ages and almost no people of color. It may not seem important to you, but hey, it never does seem important to the people that are represented by default. I would at least hope you wouldn't outright COMPLAIN when diversity was added.

Man, white people. You really can't handle anything, can you?

You mean those yellow emojis that we've been using for years were supposed to represent white people exclusively? What about the blue ones here on MacRumors? Are they reserved for smurfs? /Sarcasm

Why can't the Emoji be gay? Where are the Gay Emoji's?

----------

i want my middle finger .|. And puke icon!

Also am i the only one who never understood the way they are organized? What does a bell have to do with anything for example

lmao!!!! :d

This was addressed by the two dozen other people who made the same joke before you.

I beg to disagree, only two persons made a similar reference not a dozen which is a high numeric discrepancy of around 83%, plus those comments were not made in a sarcastic way which is necessary in order to obtain some up votes.

I realize they don't work on one issue at a time. However, what I, and some others are saying is that when they have such glaring, massive ONGOING issues like they have had for years now, spending ANY time on something this stupid is worthy of some rage from the userbase.

rage...really.

So this raging user base should decide Apple's workload and how Apples ridiculously large workforce should prioritize projects?

If these massive and ONGOING issues were really "massive" then they would be addressed by Apple. The fact that you think it is 'stupid' really isn't a factor.

Don't you know Apple is ONLY working on whatever issue the sites are reporting on? Absolutely nothing else goes on. It's like when my 4 year old nephew thinks my sister-in-law is gone just because he can't see her...

All these 4 year old on this forum. Lol.

What is up with some of you people here. The article is talking about an Emoji upgrade. What makes you think Apple isn't working on fixing other things....and to be honest, this past update fixed quite a few bugs and Yosemite is running excellent for me and I use my Macs to run my business. A valium or camomile tea can be your friend greatly. :p

Wait, wait, wait minute...

The point of us is that we do not want anybody working on EMOJI.
Before EMOJI the world was alive and okay and would deb without EMOJI.

Even the 2 people that are supposedly working on it are wasting time!

Yosemite has random freezes for me.

Well "WE" isn't the rest of us and if YOU don't see any benefit of the Emoji then simply ignore the article. I mean, it's just an article. Not everybody is having the same issues so I couldn't care less for some of the things some people here wish Apple would do, but they need to voice their opinion elsewhere that counts such as directly to Apple because this isn't the place.

I get so sick of coming here daily and seeing something that might be an interesting article only for it to be bombarded with rude and nasty comments ruining the entire thread. Once again, if something is not of interest to you or someone else they should ignore the article because bitching here only throws it in other member's faces and not Apple's.

Different guy

To the folks complaining about Apple's priorities:
I can GUARANTEE that the person working on skin tones would NOT be the same person who would be working on sorting out your video driver issues, updating Final Cut Pro X, or anything else outside of some illustration — probably a junior illustrator too since it's just tinting emoji skin.

In a world made up of over billions of East Asians, billions of South East Asians, billions of Africans, and many millions more people of different colours throughout the Middle East, Central and South America, and yes, even in North America and Europe, it's about time that white skin wasn't "default person". Sometimes including people doesn't need to be derided as "politically correct"; you can call it "not being a ********".

How about more essential "improvements", such as:

(1) Changing, or make it much easier for the user to change, the utterly hideous overly saturated and too-greenish folder icon color?

(2) Highlighting the active tab in Safari so you can see at a glance which one is actually active?

(3) Restoring the ability in Safari merely to clear the history (of websites visited) -- WITHOUT the present "simplification" that ties that to removing cookies as well? Those should be entirely separate user choices!

(4) Restoring clear screen rendering of fonts in pdfs, which are now fuzzy for pdfs created with (La)TeX?

While I do agree with what you said about Safari history management the rest of that nonsense is to satisfy your needs, not mine. I don't give a rats behind about the color of a folder. Really? The color of a folder? And your complaining about Emoji? Herp.
And you do realize the active Tab in Safari shows the front window you're looking at right?

I'm so happy that Apple is worrying about progressive concepts like diversity in emoticons and spending company money to send its employees to pride parades.

Because meanwhile Apple's software quality hasn't been this bad since the 90's.

The lack of sensitivity on this forum to the issues of people of color is truly astounding and disgusting. Check your privilege. You would feel left out if every emoji was black instead of white. You just never have to think about it because white is always the default, which coincidentally matches up with your race.

Actually, they were yellow. They were meant to convey an emotion, I never once thought they were representing me personally and for non whites to get a bug up their behind about this is ludicrous

Edit: And before you claim you just want to see Apple spend their resources appropriately, first of all, this IS actually a mainstream perception problem, as it's been joked about on countless television shows including SNL. Second of all, Apple is one of the richest companies in the world and they have unlimited resources. Someone working on emoji doesn't mean resources have been STOLEN from your precious OS X team. It just means Apple needs to do both. Criticize them for the problems you want fixed, but don't criticize them for fixing the other problems that don't happen to be on your list.

See above.

I want a transparent emoji face with blur effect, and a gaylish hue above the head. Does Unicode 8.0 support that?

You all need to chill out. This literally could've taken a couple hours out of a couple employees time. They have 98,000 other employees lol

It's amazing how oblivious all of you are. NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT THE YELLOW EMOJIS. We're talking about the actual PEOPLE emojis. Scroll one page down. So not only are most of you whining about unrelated nonsense, you don't even know WHAT you're whining about. /white people

Oh no, white cartoon characters, how will I ever be able to use these since I'm a racist half black/1/4 latino/1/4 indian?
Yeah, keep putting down white people smart enough to see people creating a non issue just so they can have something ludicrous to whine about.

I'm happy Apple's focusing on these Emoji. People will be able to make good use of them on the Inter --- oh, yeah... They can't get online because of the wi-fi issues... and Apple removed Ethernet ports from almost all their laptops for aesthetic reasons so they can't even run a hard line now.
