How do hardware launches work with time differences? Eg if products are released 8.30am eastern time, what happens in the UK? Do they roll them out at lunchtime, do we wait until Thursday morning, what?

Who's camping out in front of an apple retailer to get a copy of Apple's equivalent to Vista as soon as possible?

Wait, I don't have to do that anymore?

What do you mean OS X is not Windows?

Sob........so confused........

This is some messed up ****.

First, Apple was holding off new hardware until Lion was ready. Now Apple is holding off Lion until new hardware is ready.

Nobody knows any of that - remember that it's all rumors, Apple have said just one thing - lion in July.

...In my humble opinion: Lion is Apples Vista...

Nah,
* First, remember, Vista suffered massive delays. First a major reboot and then missing the revised release date to the point it missing the Christmas shopping season in 200-I-forget.

* Next Vista introduced a new crude and annoying security model.

* Then Vista changed the driver model (again) and broke compatibility with many peripherals.

* And, Vista changed enough internals to break compatibility with tons of software in at least one way or another.

* Finally, Vista essentially dropped support for a large class of existing machines, even relatively recent ones.

These are what made Vista what it was.

Lion might do just the last 2 of the 5, and OS X users have never enjoyed the level of backwards compatibility that Windows users used to expect so just due to user expectations, these two are not as big a problem for OS X as they were for Vista.

Anyway, just wait for .1 or .2 release (what I always do with OS X) and you will probably have a smooth upgrade experience... It gives both Apple and third-party developers time to work out the kinks.

I love how tech websites post "next week" and then the next week they post "next week" when they're just guessing. I suppose if they keep guessing the week after, eventually they'll get it right and be able to say they guessed it. Very annoying as a reader though.

If you guys don't want to read rumours, don't bother coming to MacRumors. There may have been multipul rumours regarding the Air, but only one (Thurs/Fri release of last week) seemed to have any creditability.

No, if only because Lion comes with printer drivers.

Who's camping out in front of an apple retailer to get a copy of Apple's equivalent to the opposite of Vista as soon as possible?

The bold is fixing your typo. And yes a lot of people will be doing this. Leeching Apple Store wifi:).

Let's hope that this is the week. I've been waiting for months for this update. So have many others!

If you think that Lion is to Snow Leopard as Vista was to XP, you have obviously not tried the Lion GM. Why do you bother to demonstrate such blatant ignorance?

Did anyone actually believe that they would be released in the first week of July? If you didn't, you're a little too hopefully.

Last week everything seemed to point to Thursday/Friday, with new material and supposed overnight shifts. Obviously that didn't happen, but it may have been the original plan until some problems came up regarding the distribution of Lion.

The excitement's definitely growing!

By the way, what's with the extra "u", UK people?

flour...scour... these words can be pronounced (<- oops, there's another "ou") consistently.

As for the silent "u"... colour... rumour.. never served much purpose it seems... it's high time to drop the silent u.... unless that's how you folk pronounce it? :D:D

Awesome, can not wait to have Lion on my Macbook Pro....:) and although I am not gonna get a new Macbook Air, I always love seeing what new things Apple has to offer!

:)
