Overnight merch

Maybe the Ovenighters will put up a 'Coming July 19' style teaser poster, along with all of the other merchandising, then just swap those posters for an 'Out Now' variation on the day?

aww, i had no college today i was hoping to have the whole day to drool at the eye candy on the 27" beast of a mac. Oh well, look on the bright side, they have more time to fix hem bugss.

AppleWorks will not run on Lion.

When you run a law office and you have over 10,000 files in AppleWorks, you use it everyday for work, and then Lion comes out and DOES NOT support ANY PowerPC apps at ALL....then you are up a creek without a paddle. You just don't upgrade to Lion.

This is the situation my Dad is in right now with his old White Core 2 Duo iMac, running Snow Leopard and AppleWorks, which he has been running his law practice on since the old G3 iMac.

It seems odd that he would upgrade his OS but not software.

I've never heard of a business using AppleWorks. Seriously? AppleWork's was discontinued a LONG time ago.

Lots of individuals and small businesses used AppleWorks. The thing is Apple didn't give AppleWorks users a clear upgrade path. iWork is good, but it won't open all AppleWorks files. So there was no way to *upgrade* AppleWorks- only to switch to different software- be it iWork, the (in)famous MS Office, or otherwise.

It's the reason I won't make the mistake of trusting Apple in supporting their own formats again. Trouble is it's hard finding a good, Mac-like word processor. OpenOffice is great in price and features, but throws all Mac aesthetics and conventions out the window. That's why I still use Pages, though I have no doubt Apple will one day abandon those formats too. Maybe by that time I'll have perfected my batch conversion workflow.

Sorry the Closed Apple key was cooler :D

Indeed. I always liked the "open-Apple", "closed-Apple" keys from back in the Apple II days. Wikipedia says they were removed because Jobs considered it an overuse of the logo, thus replacing it with the "Saint John's Arms" symbol. Though it came back later on (and has now gone again). Remember the outcry when Apple tried to remove the Apple menu in the Mac OS X Public beta?

Did you also notice any rise in temperatures/fan noise when compared to SL? (while doing the same things, of course). I have the same MBP13.

I have a mid2009 MBP with 2.53 C2D and have the same problem. May be it is spotlight cache issue?

Delay, Delay, Delay. Other than ipod media events, it's so annoying for them to not announce hard dates, let alone waiting mid-taild end of a given month to do anything always

They never do. Apple doesn't care about business users, no matter how much they try to pretend they do. No clear roadmap, secrecy, unannounced EOLs with no migration paths available, the list goes on...

Someone doesn't know about NeoOffice ;) (basically, a Mac aesthetics and conventions port of OpenOffice) :

I highly doubt we will see new hardware/software today. :)!

Batch export to PDF and use something else for new documents. I worked in law office and most of the time you don't need to go back to an old document to edit anyways. Old documents that are sent are archived and mostly used as templates for new stuff anyways.

[Edit:] It is almost criminal to be using AppleWorks in 2011.

With all due respect what enterprise environment voluntarily uses V1 of ANY software release?

True, but my organisation uses DFS heavily, and is eager to upgrade to Lion so that Mac users can actually get into DFS shares for the first time.

I'm not sure how poor planning on your dad's part is Apple's fault. If you run a law office (or any kind of professional business) then you make damn well sure that whatever file format you save your documents in is well supported universally.

That said there are plenty of work arounds to convert AppleWorks docs to Word. Do a Google search. You can write an Automator script to do all the heavy lifting -- make sure you have good back ups of the files on separate media first. Then stick w/ Word.

OK, so how many times has everyone clicked on the App Store icon so far today to check? I think I am up to 5...

I would think they would wait until after next Tuesday financials. Then if any glitches with downloads they wouldn't be beat up over it. Betting they would rather discuss another stellar quarter and excitement for lion, etc.
