Just installed this Beta and my late-2013 rMBP feels a lot more responsive now.

Anyone else noticed the same?

Not really liking the Photos app though which is a shame. Think i'll be sticking with Lightroom

I felt the same regarding ui smoothness after first boot, although few more days od testing is needed

Apple is using Amazon Hosting for Photos ?!?!?!

I'm confused...

Had to upgrade to the 200GB plan. Currently uploading 26,000 photos (about 86GB). Will be interested to see how this handles videos as I've got 110GB of home videos sitting around too.

Still sinks I can't "share" a single library with my wife without resorting to using the same iCloud account.

Yeah, still feel a slight lag in my notification center and occasional Mission Control lag on my 2013 rMBP.

Photos works great for me though, very responsive. No issues with albums or dates like a few other people. So much easier to use than iPhoto.

Could anybody please comment on the general stability of 10.10.3 Beta? Thanks!

I think there is a big depends, but for me I am pretty stable in comparison to all prior versions beta and not. Still some continuing issues like BT quirkiness etc, but mostly everything is as expected. It's better than 10.10.2 for me in any case.

1) Does the new Photos app only work with iCloud? If so, it's a no-go for me. I think it's ridiculous to think that people want to store gigabytes of photos in the cloud and not on a drive. I do not use iCloud for my iOS photos and have not enabled iCloud drive. It's a way to generate more $ storing your data online. But, I just don't want it out there, out of my control.

2) Is it just Photos app (and emoji silliness)? Please tell me there are bug fixes also??

Nope, you can just turn off iCloud Photo Library in the options and then it's just a local library like iPhoto was.

1) No you can turn icloud off.
2) Well one would hope, but I think there may be a huge placebo effect with some of Apple's patches. I've come to the place where I think if Apple doesn't mention a fix in the notes, it's likely not in there.

Is there a slider to change the white background to black? A distracting high-contrast background seems like it would be a bad choice for a photo app.

Late 2013 rMBP + external display: the menu bar icons do not flicker anymore when switching between displays!

Photos ???

What is happening to Apple the last few years? Taking good things and making them bad :-(

Most ugle App ever :-O What a mess... Looks like something made in 92

Hope iPhoto will continue to work. Or I have to find an alternativ

You're the first person with a comparable library to mine. Are you going from Aperture or iPhoto? Please post results including length of time it took after everything is finished. Best of luck!

When I first rebooted after the update transparency had turned itself off but I turned the setting back on and rebooted again and it seems to be working fine now. No other problems at all except when I turned on iCloud photo library in the photos app and updated, it brought back some old photos that I had deleted a very long time ago, some from even before iOS 8 so I'm not sure where they came from and if anyone has any ideas please let me know because it was very strange. So if you have any deleted memories you don't want to relive, I would hold off on using the photos app. Other than that very stable

Probably from your trash folder in iPhoto or Aperture. Either that or you deleted them from your iPhoto library but for whatever reason they were not removed from the folder structure in Finder.

I was about to do a clean install today and then I got this email and wanted to just do a clean install with this. Question, if I do a clean install of this would I be able to just upgrade to the final build through software update seamlessly?

If Apple make the next major OS X version incompatible (at best artificially) with Aperture, then you bet Yosemite will get a good run*!

Love photos, quick and simple. I just want to view photos when I open the app and that's what photos does - but smoothly.

Unfortunately I bought a router (TP-Link Archer C7) today that is not "compatible" with my Macbook Pro and I was hoping that this update would fix my 30 second wake delay issue. Oh well, back to the store it will go.

It's more functional than iphoto. No lag what so ever. Awesome app.

So is iCloud Photo Library finally stable enough to use? Or actually working? I couldn't get it to work at all after iOS 8 launched, and there were many other people on here who had similar problems. Some of them even started having some of their photos disappearing permanently, so I turned it off just to be safe.

I can only get to 7% completed in the Preparing Library phase, and then it just closes without a whimper. Or even a report to Apple dialogue thing.
