Question: If I'm on the developer branch and want to switch to the public branch, is there any way to do so without a clean install?

Apple is using Amazon Hosting for Photos ?!?!?!

I'm confused...

My first guess is they're using the CDN to keep your most used pieces of data available closer to you for quick access. I read some article last year about how Microsoft delivers Xbox One games at these different endpoints or something…I don't know the exact details of how it works, but it allows people to be able to download games much faster by distributing them all over. Maybe it's something like that but personalized to your geographic location? IDK.

Curious to know if anyone with something near a 450 to 500 GB photo library has tried out the switch yet.

Yeah, I know I have a lot of photos. I was the photo editor for my college newspaper for 3 years and I additionally have amassed quite the library post college.

I'll skip the beta until official release. I'd love to try it out but have a hackintosh so I'll wait until other people test it. :)

Photo's app

Based upon my library I have to pay 3.99/month to view my photographs from other devices......well I don't think so but if I should ever develop OCD things may change. How much money is enough for Apple....greedy.

how much is fair?

im not a huge fan of all these free services by the giants that let other sources of income subsidise it. then of course is the fact that if you are unhappy or if its buggy you cant complain because its "free"

How much try well......$0. It's not that apple is hurting for cash. Though, if you like the service....pay .....I won't on principal...to each their own.

Not taking the chance to be a guinea pig for my photo collection. But if Apple can get their act together, I'll switch. I like how in theory photos in the cloud works pretty seamlessly between devices. It just needs to be trustworthy for all of my photos.

FYI

If you use the 'Faces' Feature, it does not work well in the BETA. Faces you had set carry over, however all those faces of randomers in the crowd who you spent hours clicking the 'x' so they wouldn't show up? Well there back. Currently working my way through over 3,000 faces, and you can't select more than one at once

No import from iPhoto or aperture yet?

I'm am not seeing how to import the iPhoto or aperture library directly. Not in this beta version?

How large was your library? Also, please post an update when your uploading is complete to let everyone know how long it took. I'm starting with a 40-50GB Aperture library, so I'm a little nervous about the amount of time it will take to complete the uploading process.

Sure thing. I'm currently at 4100 photos still left uploading and my iPhoto library is 30GB. It's been about 2 to 2 hours and a half so yea, it looks like it's going to take a while for the upload to complete.

Apple is using Amazon Hosting for Photos ?!?!?!

I'm confused...

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that iCloud runs across both AWS and Azure. They've got NDAs with Amazon and Microsoft to prevent them using iCloud as a marketing tool ("hey, Apple use our service, so should you!"), also helps to ensure that the public assume that iCloud is entirely self-hosted by Apple.

so just because apple is filthy rich they should not charge for things that costs actual money?

personally i think of the markets this creates and as we are seeing they get more and more condensed with only a few companies (mostly the same). storage, office apps, music streaming, voip etc etc.
