gap at top of commuter case

I did email them about the gap at the top of the commuter case... it's been almost a week now and I haven't had a reply.

They seem very slow to respond to emails lately. I had a big problem with my blue Defender's silicone stretching out badly, and it took a little over a week to get a reply. But once you do, their customer service is top notch. Replaced the entire Defender with no questions asked.

Going to try and answer my own question...plopped down $30 for this Seidio Innocase Active holster today in hopes that it'll fit the Commuter. I have the Seidio holster for the Surface cases, and it's just a bit too small. Hopefully this one fits the bill.

Are you specifically looking for a snap in style holster, or would a leather holster work? I've always used the Marware CEO Sleeve for my 3G/3GS and now iPhone 4. I love it because of the leather construction and the thick elastic sides that allow almost all sizes of cases to be installed on the iPhone, yet still have one holster to accommodate them all. It'll stretch out far enough to even hold an Otterbox Defender, yet has enough elasticity to also hold the bare iPhone if you want it to. Plus, the clip is removable on the back if you ever just want to use it as a leather pouch for the phone.

I was actually able to slightly bend the top and bottom sections inward so they hugged the silicone better and the case fits a lot better now. Nice and snug, such a minor adjustment made a huge difference, it felt so much more loose before. I am liking this much more now. I'm wondering if it was just a manufacturing defect.

Did you just bend them by hand? I've tried pushing them in a little but am afraid it will snap. I may try to soften it slightly with a little heat. I've emailed Otterbox and waiting to hear back about this issue.

Seems like a lot of us have the same issue. I'll reply in here if I here back (I emailed them on Friday last week as soon as I got the case).

To be honest, I'd like it fixed, but it isn't bad enough for me to return the case and not have the Commuter case at all. I'd just want a fixed one and even that was a hassle, I'd probably live with this.

I had to do this same thing with right side of mine. It'll bend pretty far without breaking. I applied just a bit too much pressure and the side of mine bent to about 45 degrees! Just bent it back to where I wanted it, and now the side that was giving me trouble fits perfectly.

It worked. I applied more pressure to the top and bottom and the fit is much better now. The bottom can only be adjusted so much because of the dock connector cut out but the top is nice and flush now.

Just got mine today (got the iPhone 4 today also, perfect timing), I had to take it on/off couple times (2-3) to get it to finally fit perfect with no gaps. Once it is on it looks amazing. Love the feel and how it preserves a lot of the shape and look. Only thing thus far I'm slightly annoyed by is the flap that covers the sync port, it's kinda hard to open it and plug it in at same time (since it wants to close itself) though with practice should be a non-issue.

So has anyone seen any drop tests with the Commuter yet? Just curious what kind of protection it will offer compared to that of the Defender. Or if anyone has any stories of drops with the Commuter on please share.

Mine arrived today too. Originally FedEx said yesterday then on Tuesday it changed to today.

Either way....love it so far. Only took two tries to get it to fit right with little to no gaps. I did not install the screen protector. 1) Don't like screen protectors and 2) They kick my ass everytime. I'm anal as hell so it used to take two of the damn things for me to get the fit and bubble situation right.

Anyway....love it so far. Not nearly the bulk of my Defender. Feels great in the hand. Plenty of protection for riding in my front pocket.

Good stuff!

Steve

I have really been enjoying this case over the past few days. Just in case others were wondering about sizing of this case compared to other cases, I compared it to my candyshell. It is exactly the same size. I also compared it to my Speck Geometric. The geo is slightly less thick. All in all, a great case and my top choice thus far in regards to how it feels in the hand and the protection it offers.

Also, FWIW, I have it on with a Wrapsol original back and an SGP oleophobic screen protector and have no issues with fitment of the case. :D

Been using the case for a few days... Love it do far. It's a bit of a dust magnet on the sides but I can deal with it. Quality case

Mine is on the FedEx truck for delivery. The thread starter is FINALLY close to getting his !!! :p

Great, thank you for sharing that. That is the combination I am looking to use (minus wrapsol back).
How is the SGP holding up? I think it looks like the best S.P. for me as it allows oil to wipe away easily. I thought about the anti fingerprint one but it looked kind of cloudy...

anyway, so the silicone covers the SGP fully? As the SGP is cut smaller than the iphone I was worried that it's edge would clash with the silicone, making it lift, if you get what i'm saying.
It seems that this is not the case then, good news :)

Yes, the SGP is actually covered by the otterbox case at all the edges. There is just enough overlap there so as to not catch and edge of the SP and cause it to lift. I have used this particular protector for a few weeks and so far it seems to hold up very well. Oils do wipe off easily and I prefer the clarity offered by it vs the anti-fingerprint screen protectors. For me it is the best combination.

Got my case today and I'm not all that crazy about it. I love the bottom and the sides are ok but the top just doesn't seem to fit right. Especially where the ear bud plug is. The plug fits but the outter shell seems to push the silicone down a bit more on the screen. Sort of hard to explain...

Got my commuter today. It took 4 tries with the front and back protectors on to get it in place where it fit on all sides (each time, one side just wasn't seated right). But, in the end it snapped in fine with no big gaps and everything in place. I'm happy with how it feels - the phone feels less elegant, but more solid and it looks fine to me, though clearly less beautiful than the naked phone. All in all, I'm happy with it. Thanks for all the pictures, folks, particularly you, Shanemar!

I received my Commuter yesterday. It took me a couple of tries to get it on right because the silicone kept bunching up when I was trying to apply the plastic shell. I have a Zagg invisible shield on the front and back and BSE side shields on my phone and the Commuter fits fine with these on. I was using an Incipio Silicrylic before this which is also a silicone hard shell hybrid case and the silicone bottom of the case was very flimsy and saggy because it was not reinforced by the plastic shell. The Commuter on the other hand is very solid. There are no parts of the silicone that sag. Very good quality case.

I finally got my case yesterday. As others have noted it took some fiddling to get it installed properly. However, now that it is on I find it absolutely perfect. I am very happy I waited for this case and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone !

Got mine yesterday and love it. Doesn't add much bulk at all. Its not a perfect fit, but overall out of all the cases iv'e tried (incase slider, belkin gripvue, griffin reveal) this is by far my favorite.

People we need some real pics, lol

Also anyone in the U.K. got 1 of these cases, where did u get it from?

please measure the added thickness with this case. I am getting rid of my Nokia 5800 and don't want to have the same thickness in an iphone case.

The tech specs for all of Otterbox's cases can be found on their website to download. They give the complete measurements.
