My "Estimated Delivery Date (Subject to change)" has just changed from 4th May to 11th May .... WTF??

Has the volcano erupted again or something?

Same problem here - In the end, it will be almost a month from ordering to delivery. Rather a long time to have to wait for a notebook.

What is irritating is the institutional lack of info from Apple to their customers. I mean, if there is a shortage of Arrandale chips, or whatever, what does it cost to let people know?

Absolutely - it would have been nice to know (like in my case), that by adding a frigging remote to the order, it will delay delivery by several days because of the "merge".
I would have bought the remote from the shop!
On top of it, if you have to merge, you don't get any tracking info.... I repeat, WTF???

Apple do make nice stuff, but I have been kept more informed and treated better elsewhere.

haha agreed. Happened to me. ETA supplier 26th. ETA apple 5th? :(

So do you think we should at least be given the choice of carrier?

Apple is one of the few online shops that you don't have a choice on. I would have preferred DHL; every previous shipment I've had with them has been amazingly fast and the tracking system is a lot better (I'm sure most people on this thread would prefer a less ambiguous and more detailed tracking system). Then again Apple chose UPS for a reason and I doubt it was just financial.

Apple surely get a discount for sending all their shipments via the same carrier. UPS's "World Ease" feature seems to allow a batch of shipments to be sent out together and have their paperwork handled in one go while giving individual tracking numbers, which I imagine saves quite a bit of hassle and possibly cost.

I seriously doubt Apple would be able to offer a range of carriers for free - and while you might say "I would pay for DHL and everyone else could use UPS for free" they might not get quite such a good deal out of UPS if they didn't send everything via their service. In principle the DHL service is no faster so what would be the point of offering the choice?

When things are going smoothly UPS can be "amazingly fast" as well. Since the airspace closures relating to the volcano incident are entirely without precedent (and unlikely to recur now that safe ash levels have been agreed) I don't see that it would be worth changing things in response to this incident even if other carriers have handled things noticeably better (I've no idea whether they have or not).

The whole experience has been pretty frustrating and annoying (particularly the "missing the flight to the UK and having to wait over the weekend" part) but I'm sure once we all have our new Macs in hand we will have forgotten all about this in a month or two...

hey, since we got the exact same departure scan, i guess we'll be on the same plane (sunday 4.00am local time from shanghai like said?):

No, I'm in Scotland.

There's been no further update since this morning's departure scan from Cologne... is it a bit ambitious to hope for a Monday delivery?

Check your expected delivery day above on the same page, they have probably updated it. My MBP was on the same shipment as yours and Ive got expected 26th now...

Mine finally got send today!! (Got the email anyway)
When I go to trace tracking it just ends up with a server not responding error.

I still have an estimated delivery time of 26-27th of April, seems a little to early no?

Anyway, still glad that its got send finally (Had to wait 5 days while it said Ships in 3 Days :()

Yeah it's been updated and is saying the 26th on mine too, I would love to believe them :D. It certainly seems more likely than Apple's estimate which still says "19 Apr 2010 (Subject to change)" :p

Based on my UPS experience and that it is coming from Cologne, I would say Monday is highly likely. I am definitely going to put a good chair and my espresso machine at the biggest window Monday morning myself! :D

Fair point. I know I'll be lost in enjoyment with my new toy I probably won't even check in on this thread as soon as it's in my hands (sorry guys).

Argh! There's still Sunday to endure though!

I'll struggle through :(

It was exciting to see an occasional departure scan from Cologne today (hopefully these will resurface closer to their destination soon). My tracking still shows an exception due to "adverse weather". Is there anybody else in the same situation, ordered on the 13th, shipped on the 16th, stuck in Cologne since Thursday? This bad weather seems very selective..

Talked to Apple earlier today, here's what I got in an e-mail: "I have been advised by our carrier UPS that your package will be out for delivery next monday."

Finally some good news:

SHANGHAI, CN 25/04/2010 4:49 DEPARTURE SCAN

13" base / in Shanghai since 17th

same as post above

Apple Care is auto enrol and always starts the day the item is shipped from China, I think in part it is to cover any accidents when in transit...

I would not take the dates you get as solid proof thats the date you will get them, all of my CTO are always ott on dates and change onces they are given a UK delivery company...

According to the T&Cs we are responsible for the condition of the product on receipt. Our insurance cannot be liable for damage done to a product before that date. I am having the same problem with my Applecare and will speak to Apple Monday.

Under Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regulations 1999 you have to bring onerous clauses, such as the purchase of insurance excluding their liability for a product in transit, to the attention of the consumer.

Does anyone, who had their MBP shipped today, have access to shipping tracking? Unfortunately, I have no access to the tracking because it's getting merged in the Netherlands :( If you do, please share so I can follow the movement of my laptop

SHANGHAI, CN 25/04/2010 4:49 DEPARTURE SCAN

Finally! Where is it headed to now and when does it get there? Anyone know?

I've got the same dates as you, but mine managed to get to the UK last night in time for delivery today (if there had been one) so yours will defintely be in the UK on Monday morning and most probably out for delivery Monday too. It's not just UPS/Apple trying to fob you off ;)
