Awkward for the company that claims to make the best products in the world.

My iPad mini retina which isn't even 1 year old is starting to act strange too. Unable to unlock the screen (swiping doesn't work), halfway rotated screen that simply freezes, stutters, apps crash regularly...

Hello nexus 9!

From all accounts, Nexus 9 is holding its own quite well. Android Lollipop looks yummy.

Did you even READ that whole article?

Near the end, it says Apple is AWARE of the problem but denies it has to do with defective NAND flash memory (as people on the forums are just guessing at, right now).

Sounds like they're well aware it's a bug in iOS ... has probably been there since the very beginning, and never came up until people started getting large enough capacity phones to actually load them up with 700 or more apps at a time.

Big deal! This kind of thing just requires a software patch to correct. Your insistence that this has to be a bug due to not terminating apps properly to free memory doesn't mean the large libraries aren't what triggers it! When you fill up larger amounts of RAM, all of the counters have to increment higher to address those higher memory addresses. If there's some problem with addressing values above a certain number or range -- presto. Your problem happens, but only with enough apps loaded.

No offense but that article sounds like ********. Their source is who exactly? Apple? Do we expect Apple to come out and admit there's a problem until it's ballooned to the point they can't contain it anymore? Oh, that's nice, blame it on the number of apps people have on their phones - sounds like a bug in iOS then if it's not terminating the app to free memory. And people with large libraries? The ****. Most people install and delete apps all the time.

Small issue?

911 operator: "911, what's your emergency?"

iPhone6+ user: "My car just got hit and we fell off a hill and rolled. We need help ASAP."

911 operator: "It seems that your phone is not sending any GPS data, can you tell us where you are?"

Phone6+ user: "We are one block fr.................."

911 operator: "Hello.....hello...."

You have grossly misunderstood me, I didn't imply the Firestone issue minor!
I was pointing out using that your Firestone example of a minor iPhone issue, is clearly not even close to the same as well as your 911!

Unless you feel the iPhone issue is going to cause peoples death, your example is not even close! If you feel these are of the same degree, please don't buy an iPhone, or take it back if you do. Maybe seek some help as well!;)

... First it was the bending issue that a whopping 9 customers reported ...

Those are only counting the documented cases. When my brand new rMBP had to be repaired because of unresponsive keyboard, the reason printed on the work order was customer satisfaction. I'm guessing the same for all the bent iPhones.

you guys need to read my post, i had the strangest night ever yesterday. why would i be making this stuff up, samsung paid trolls? cmon now, look at me and my account, lol. and damn read some posts before posting "mine's ok, haha good luck nonissue bye"

Not sure why you quoted me, I believe I clearly stated by belief that you are experiencing this! Quite frankly, your post is the most believable one I've read.:confused::confused:

oops. no hard feeling my man :)

anyway, i have applecare+ so i guess it won't be an issue if this problem came back.
and to be clear .. i'm not complaining or anything like that. i just saw 128gb owners and decided to post my experience with my 16gb model. i don't know what it is, what causes it, how can you fix it (i fixed mine by accident, or at least i hope it's fixed). but seeing blue and red screens (of death?) was like, DAMN scary. we'll see how it goes. at least my GFs 64gb is doing fine because if HER phone would've been acting up.. it'd be worse. for me, ha.

If the phone locks up, reboots or becomes inoperable during a 911 call because of THIS issue, then yes, the phone issue can cause unnecessary deaths.

No problem, and your original post did not sound like complaining, more like you didn't want people to rub in! I would feel the same! That's really why I posted your Quote.

Good luck with Apple Care+, always works for me!

rumor indeed. I have a 6 128 GB along with a couple friends, never heard of this issue until this article.

"the prevalence of the problem has not been established and an exact cause remains undetermined."

MacRumors trying to fill space, and fuel speculation.

Okay, you win.;)

Please go to the nearest Genius Bar, get a replacement ASAP before someone dies from this major problem.

Seriously, you are one hell of a drama queen! And this in ALL YOUR POSTS on ANY SUBJECT.

The problem with TLC in a phone isn't so much performance as it is endurance. Apple recently bought an Israeli company specialized in NAND error correction, probably for the use of cheap TLC NAND in their premium devices. But even with the best error correction and wear leveling, TLC has a shorter lifespan than MLC.

Also, I'd guess TLC is only in the 128 GB models due to performance. By interleaving the 128 GB of TLC NAND they can probably match or exceed the performance of MLC NAND in tiny amounts like 16 GB.

This is pure speculation, but maybe the issue is with Apple's new NAND controller using the specialized error correction developed by that Israeli company. For all we know, this is Apple's first attempt at an in house NAND controller, or at least their first attempt at a more complex NAND controller. Just thinking out loud here - we don't even know yet that the rebootloop is a hardware issue.

You speculate on something that's ALREADY a speculation. That's getting out there...

Well this is upsetting. I was planning on ordering a 128 GB iPhone 6 Plus next week... Now not so sure I want to. I don't want to order and then have to wait a month for a defective product especially considering I'd be paying $950 (non-contract)... Oh what to do???

It's been happening to a few units at work. So far we have been monitoring and building a log. Frequency of events has been low.

There has been a 128GB iPad on the market for 2 years now.. wouldn't this kind of software bug of been caught by now?

theres an ongoing endurance test going on on a samsung 120gb TLC nand
so far it's written and read like 78TB of data with no failure.

to give that some sort of scale, youd have to fill up your 128gb iphone to the brim, empty it, refill it...and repeat, 650 times...and it'd reach the state that the benchmark is at - no failure.

anand's test of writing and rewriting the same drive at 10gb a day, results in projected expected lifespan of 35 years.
I saw another test, with a bumped up write amount - 40gb a day..and that results in a projected lifespan of 7 years.
in other words, your phone's more likely to need new batteries before the TLC NAND fails.

dont worry.

So far I'm unaffected as well - 128GB 6+ with roughly 35 GB free.

So far I've had the car bluetooth and iOS 8.0.1 problems. Both have since been fixed. Aside from the occasional app crash, my 6+ (and my 6) runs like a dream.

I've had a few software issues, but nothing huge. And nothing like the article describes. I had a 64GB I had to return because it had terrible battery life, but all 3 of the 128GB 6+ devices we have in our house now don't have battery or boot issues.

Ouch ! not good..

Triple-level-cell to boost performance/capacity..

And being new, u know there's going to be issues.. Case closed :D

If its a known issue, then better roll ya sleeves up for another replacement program...

(That didn't take long, it only seemed like yesterday there was one)

I actually did experience this. Specifically when switching between apps. Apple screen appeared, and boom comes the soft restart.
