Lol

This happened to me this morning! I only had 1 safari window open and i looked away for a couple seconds, next thing I know, Keyboard and Trackpad were unresponsive and I had to do a power button hard reset.

I really don't understand why Apple cannot isolate such problems by simply testing their devices extensively before they release them out to the public. I have used Apple computers for over 20 years and only lately you see such problems appear on the massive scale. I remember Apple computers having the same issue when Steve Jobs was ousted and unfortunately he is incapable of running this corporation from wherever he is at right now. If this keeps on repeating I think Apple is going to lose face sooner than later. I am sure a software update will fix the issue but continuously disappointing buyers is going to end the "macs just work" myth.

It's silly to think that they don't. They do. But when you mass produce hundreds of thousands of computers, with complex hardware and software engineering and manufacturing process, you are bound to have glitches with a number of them. Twenty years ago, computers were not as complex as they are today.

I have a early 15" rMBP and I'm not sure if this is exactly what they're speaking of in the article but my trackpad mouse pointer will completely disappear from the screen.

Its kind of like it doesn't wake up and display on the screen but I can see the mouse pointer moving around if I move my finger all over the trackpad because the pointer interacts with various things on the screen.

It appears after about 10 seconds or so of moving it all over the screen.

This happens maybe 3-4 times a week.

Surprised they encountered that many issues with a minor update. Disappointing on Apple's side. :(

I don't know what you're looking at, but the MacBook Pro 15" starts at only $2,000. That's less money than the average audio engineer takes home every two weeks and it has a 2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU that has more raw CPU power than anyone doing audio work ever needs. Please tell me that you're not complaining about spending $2K for something as important to your life and your profession as a computer.

P.S. Yes, a retina display is useful for someone doing just audio. It reduces eyestrain. That's according to ophthalmologists, so we can take that as a given.

Very presumptuous and wrong!

1) There's still people tracking software synths as a hobby who want a powerful system they can get as much use out of as possible who don't have $2000 coming in every 2 weeks (or live in the US where $s are the currency).

2) It's close to 3 x the price of the 2.3Ghz Mac Mini. Apart from the screen, keyboard and portability factor, nothing justifies a £2000+ price point.

3) More CPU combined with as much RAM as possible means lower latency and higher polyphony counts of software synths as well as more plug-ins. Whichever is more important is irrelevant. It's still more breathing room to work with before you run out of CPU power.

4) Not everyone wants a Retina Display and a glossy one at that. Reading text may be better on a retina display. The difference between an iPhone 3GS and is iPhone5 screen is amazing but for a computer that's using pixel doubling on all the interface elements other then text and windows, a higher resolution of 1680x1050 would be better. I'd like a 3840 x 2160 Retina with a 17" non-glossy screen for over £2000 personally and that's regardless of if it's 2, 2.3 or 2.6Ghz Quad i7.

I guess you're one of those self-proclaimed "professionals" that can't even comprehend the simple idea that people buy computers for personal use on a hobby basis and don't need to be dictated to over what system they're allowed to have that suits them by someone presuming to make that decision for them!

Me too

I bought a 13" Retina 4 days ago and encountered this problem within the first few hours or so. Over the next 2 days it happened approx 7-8 times. As I didn't have much of any software installed (said software is also on my 2011 with Mavericks, no issues there), I assumed it was a hardware issue. Thus, I exchanged it at the Apple store for a new one.

The same problem happened within a few hours after arriving home. I then started assuming that maybe it is indeed a piece of software I have installed...as 2 machines now are having the issue. Only thing questionable would be "MenuMeters" and "Private Internet Access". I have since uninstalled MenuMeters and the problem has not returned. Maybe coincidence, but I will keep my eye on it and report back.

It's actually a relief to hear other Mavericks users having the exact problem...at least a software issue can be fixed.

I'm having freezing on my 2011 MacBook Air under Mavericks. Can't do anything but restart. Feels like a memory leak...

I have a MBA 2013 operating under ML. Will stick to that until this issue has been resolved.

Anyone still having issues with their Macbook Air losing wifi? Even after Mavericks install I have to constantly turn off wifi and turn it back on to get a connection, even though it shows I'm connected it just sits and spins, then suddenly connects again..

I've verified it's not my wifi because I can connect and surf find on my iPad, iPhone, and Chromebook.

I've been having the trackpad/keyboard freezing issue on my original rMBP from last year (purchased July 2012). I've taken it in for a repair already and they replaced the logic board and top case, but it didn't resolve the issue. I'm out of warranty now, and I don't have Apple Care, but the Apple Store where I am is going to pay for the repair since the parts they replaced were still under warranty when I took it in the second time (parts have their own 90-day warranty separate from the machine's warranty).

Source?

You are wrong.

wow dude. Jobs was no god nor miracle maker. He released plenty of ****** things in his time (cube, me, antenaegate, ping....so on).
Stop trying to sanctificate Jobs.

Tim is actually doing a fine job at Apple regardless of all your moaning. The stocks are higher than have ever been under Jobs, their products are still awesome, their services great.

that and a foil hat always work

Oh early adopters..

When will they ever learn. This is what you get for thin & light, smashing all that stuff in such a compact area, bound to push the limits of the infant technologies involved. Silly.

I get the feeling these freezing issues are Mavericks related. Would any of Mavericks' power saving features cause these problems? Maybe Mavericks puts critical tasks to sleep such as the app that governs the track pad movement, etc.? Let's hope Apple releases an update full of bug fixes soon.

Like another poster, I had to do a hard restart while reading this thread. It was my first such crash on my new rMBP 8gb/i5/512gb. Very weird.

Where are the mindless minions?

This is NOT a bug! This is a feature!

Apple did it this way because they can do no wrong...

I'll enjoy my ****** image retention screen, too.

Whatever happened to the class-action on that?

Also, are the 2013 models infected with image retention issues?

I've seen several threads on Apple's forum with complaints about this. I was planning to buy a 2013 rMBP, but I'm going with the MBA instead.

My 2009 15" non-rmbp, i5 still runs better than every other macbook I've used including the one I'm on at the moment 2011 i7 17" and my friends' laptops that are even newer. I almost think it's snow leopard being awesome, though Mavericks is much better than the lions.
