So unless the Yankees go all the way, it's the worst playoffs in baseball history?

No wonder the Yankees and their fans are hated by nearly everyone who lives outside of the Bronx :D
Then why would they have the biggest fan base in the country?;)

Actually the Fact that it is teams that nobody will watch makes it the worst playoffs.

Right, Boston and Cleveland are apparently tiny markets that account for 0.00000000000000000000005% of all baseball viewers.

Combined.

The Yankees have the largest fan base because they're located in the biggest city in the country, and have been around longer than the Mets.

Or do they really have the largest? I bet there's no Yankee Stadium in Japan.

This might be the worst playoffs ever in baseball history. Who cares about Rockies and D-Backs. And I doubt if anyone is going to give a damn about Red Sox and Indians, Yawn.

Bud Selig must be rolling around in his grave, wait he's not dead he just looks like he is.

For the majority in here that don't give a damn who is playing anymore the hot stove will be firing up shortly.

Spoken like a true Yankee's fan :)
The Bronx is Burning..Let the carnage begin in the Yankee's organization..

And yet again,Mr. April thru September was on display that series..Note to Theo and Larry...Don't go after him...

If the Red Sox actually have less fans, it's only marginally. No other team has more fans on the road than the Sox.

Geez, what a sleeper the playoffs will be.

Actually there was a front-page article in the USA Today around the end of August about how the Red Sox were now America's favorite team. (They calculated based on total road attendance). I can't seem to find a link to it right now, anyone care to help me find it?

EDIT: Found it...

Total road attendance would include games at Yankee Stadium.

Yankee Stadium capacity = 55,524
Fenway capacity = 38, 805

I believe in division, teams play 9 at home and 9 on the road, which would mean (assuming capacity) that 499,716 saw the Red Sox play the Yankees in Yankee Stadium, while only 349, 245 saw the Yankees play the Red Sox in Fenway Park.

That difference is 150, 471.

So basically, just by playing the yankees 18 times a year, the red sox "out draw" the yankees by 150k.

Spread that across an 81 game road schedule and it's nearly an extra 2,000 per game just by playing at Yankee stadium.

Basically, Fenway is too small.

Thank god the Yankees are gone. What is it? Three years since they were in a Series? Maybe baseball will actually become more about baseball again, instead of just the about the Yankees.

If certain teams must be in the playoffs for it to be a "good" series, then the whole sport is FUBAR.

Thank you very much.

This is exactly why people hate Yankees fans. They act like the only legitimate championships are theirs, and if they didn't win it one year, somehow it was an unlucky break, or one unproductive player, or a bad managerial decision. But if it weren't for that, they'd win it every year. It's a miracle the sport survives without them. Give it a rest.

So you'll be posting less in the playoffs now?

If I wasn't at work and had the time, I'd do a full analysis, but even with the size difference between Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park, I think the point is Red Sox draw more people to games...

I picked Toronto as an example since they never seem to sell out... Looking at just the final 3 game set each the Yankees and the Red Sox played against the Jays, approximately 30k people were in attendance for each of the games with the Yankees while approximately 32k people were in attendance for the games against the Sox.

I don't know that the numbers really prove anything, per se, but its fairly good insight into who has "the biggest fan base in the country", I think.

On the Torre Watch, Don Mattingly, mentioned as a possible replacement along with Joe Girardi and Tony La Russa, said succeeding Torre would be difficult".

If La Russa's approached and interested, I'll be surprised. But STL has provided NYC with some good leadership. :)

I don't think La Russa has what it takes to manage in New York. I heard a rumor of Buck Showalter.

Geez MacNut you certainly aren't helping any Yankee fans out here.

Dbacks and Rockies while certainly not as entertaining as some other series (no, I'm not saying that it would involve the Yankees), it has a real chance to be interesting.

Tribe and Sox should be a great series, both got the pitching and the Sox have just a tad more hitting. Tribe has been utterly redonkulous with RISP with 2 out. Should be a great matchup.

Rockies v Sox World Series.

In regards to Joe Toree, it's time for him to go. He's done a fantastical job here, but the franchise is reverting back to youth and we all know that Toree sticks with his vets for the most part. It's time to rebuild and make Yankee baseball fun again (see when the Yankees almost caught the Sox, that was exciting and fun). I don't expect to see Posada, Rivera or Pettitte back either.

Any word yet if LaRussa is out in STL?

The article from the Post-Dispatch I read wasn't definite. The fact that GM Walt Jocketty is gone and that LaRussa isn't making any comment makes me think they may both go. DeWitt sounded pretty frustrated with LaRussa's silent treatment. What's the spin in the Saint Louis media tonight?

Dunno....the only news media I watch at 10:00 is The Daily Show :D

You get Showalter, you probably get Manny, next year. Are you ready for that?

I don't know for sure what you mean that LaRussa doesn't have what it takes to manage in NY? I think I know though, predictably so based on past statements of the great and inflated NY and Beantown aura, and so I don't really want to know. :p

From what I gather LaRussa is waiting to see who St Louis hires as a new GM before making a decision.

I don't think he can handle the media in NY, He is very defensive and the NY media will tare him apart.

Personally I don't think anyone can handle the team as well as Torre, it will be interesting to see who the Yankees hire and more interesting to see the fall out.

He's been your manager for 12 years and you still can't spell his damn name...
