Twelve straight postseason trips as manager and now Torre is being disposed? Screw Steinbrenner.
It isn't anything new, we don't even know if Torre is fired yet.

Ok its time for the Hot Stove, a lot of off season moves to discuss and the season isn't even over yet.

His dastardliness was long before Torre or even Martin's appearance, but it's good to read a NewYorkian who gets it.

Basically, Fenway is too small.

That's kind of funny, considering parks in general are getting smaller. The A's closed off their upper deck completely starting last year, and made their capacity smaller than Fenway (34,077). Others: Dolphin Stadium (36,331), and PNC Park and Tropicana Field are smaller than Fenway's nighttime capacity (38,496; 38,437).

The size itself is fine. What's "small" is when you compare home away with a difference in capacity of around 20k.

The Yankees drew over 4 million the past few years. What is the Red Sox home attendance.

Hey, anybody know where I can find a site that tells me the number of wins and losses for each team (specifically the Rockies) over this season? I found this, but I'm not sure if it's up to date.

Are we back to this?

You don't need to know attendance numbers to hate the Yankees. You just need to dislike Steinbrenner, his big-spending approach to baseball, and that whole "We deserve to be in the World Series" mentality.

The Yankees are the "un-Green Bay Packers".

That doesn't really mean much since the Red Sox are sold out every game. Doesn't tell you how many fans they have. I can tell you that when you go to games in Baltimore, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Toronto... there always seem to be about half Red Sox fans and half home team fans.

I don't see any problem with an owner that has lots of money spending it on the team. How many other owners take that money and pocket it and let the team go to crap. The more you spend on the team the better the team gets and the more money it makes so the cycle continues. Tampa Bay could be a great team if they spent money on it. They don't so players leave and fans don't attend.

But how many of those fans travel with the team vs live in that city. Baltimore has more Yankees and Red Sox fans at the game because its easy for those fans to travel. Tampa has been called Yankee Stadium south since a lot of the fans moved their.

There's nothing to speculate on yet because there are no free agents or trades until after the World Series is over.

Just because your team is out, doesn't mean the season has ended.

I'd really like to see Colorado get to Webb tonight. Their last meeting with him was their only loss in 18 games. If they do, it looks good for them. Just hoping to see them make it to face either Cleveland or Boston.

Colorado would be a nice underdog story to win the whole thing. I would love to see them win it all.

Most teams don't have anywhere near the money to spend on player development that the yankees do. Much of this has to do with the TV rights and the money it brings to the franchise.

A lot of teams have to try to lock up young players, hope they pan out, then let them walk when they reach free agency. Alternatively, you trade them before they walk.

A perfect example of this is the Oakland A's or the Minnesota Twins.

Same here, they remind me of the 2002 Angels! It would also be cool if the Indians won, losing the WS twice in the 90's and not winning it since '48 has gotta hurt. If the Indians and Rockies make it to the Series, that would be really interesting, since they last won in '48 and never, respectively. It would be better than the Red Sox and D'backs, who both already have a World Series this millenium.

It's not how much you spend,it's who you spend it on and how you spend it.Yanks have had the highest payroll for how many years now??And how many World Series have they won?? Blowing your wad on over priced and underperforming current and former All Stars is the equivalent of standing in front of a fan and taking a wizz...

Another baseball thread that turned into a Yankee vs Red Sox debate? Surprise.

I will agree with fotografica that the Yankees spent money on useless players (Clemens and Abreu come to mind)

I was using the Yankees for all I hear is the "Yankee's buying a championship argument" all over the place..That argument would have some validity, had the Yankee's actually managed to win a World Series with the league's highest payroll...

Honestly the argument that the Yankees are so rich, they buy goodness has always been a stupid argument. True, the money has not bought them a World Series trophy in a long time, but its still a stupid argument.

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who had the money would buy the best their is. You can not tell me, for example, that if you worked in a software developing business you would not spend all the money you had to buy the best developers. People need to get over the fact that the Yankees have the money, and can spend it any damn way they want. Red Sox, White Sox, Rockies, Padres, Dodgers would all do the same. Worst argument ever.

They've violated salary caps three years and payed 40% fines, because they can. As long as that's winked at and justified by fans or owners, it's an argument which will not acquiesce to moot.

The Red Sox could spend as much, but they actually consider something else: the personalities of the players. Having Trot Nixon, Curt Schilling, and A-Rod in the same clubhouse would NOT be good, even if they were at their respective peaks.
