The Yankees pay what 40 million a year per team. What do those teams do with the money.

Don't know how the new CBA works, but here's how the previous one worked:

Payroll Ceiling and Tax Rate to Increase in Future

The threshold will rise a little, each year, through 2006, the last year of the luxury tax under this agreement. In that season, the threshold will be $136.5 million.

Furthermore, after this first season of the tax, the tax rate will be staggered, depending on how many times a team has been taxed in the past.

First-time violators will pay a 22.5% tax after this year.

Second-time violators will pay a 30% tax.

Third-time (or greater) violators will pay a 40% tax.

Where Does the Money Go?

Contrary to popular opinion, the tax revenues do not go to the "poor" clubs. In fact, they don't go to any club at all.

Half of the money will go to player benefits (i.e. pension fund).

One quarter of the money will go to the "industry-growth fund."

One quarter of the money will be allocated for developing baseball players in countries with no organized baseball at the high school level.

Colorado doing what's necessary to win. They get to Webb tonight for 4 earned, while making him throw nearly 100 pitches. He's out in the 7th.

Ya he stuck an elbow, But I have still seen a lot worse not get called.
I've seen worse, too. But coming in high and hard is different from wide and hard. The leaning elbow got the above and beyond call. I'd say the ump got it right. Definitely a big inning killer.

Rockies are about as hot it gets and a fun team to watch. They'll keep it interesting for sure...

It's getting colder here (Boston) and the wind is really starting to blow.. Should be an interesting night, especially in the outfield....

People can say whatever they want about Manny..Down 0-2 in the count with the bases loaded twice, works a walk to force in a run twice..Pretty good for a power hitter..
Carmona will be tough tomorrow..His stuff is better than Sabathia's,IMO..

Well Put about Manny. - I'm slightly worried about tomorrow, but more worried about Dice-K on Monday in Cleveland. I think if we can give Schill some good offense tomorrow night, we'll be good.

Actually,Dice K has suffered from lack of run support all year. Esp on the road,it'll be important to get some runs early. Schilling's been there. He knows the deal. It's not like he can reach back and throw 94 anymore. It's now more of a "paint the corners" deal. He seems to always come thru in the post season.Big game pitcher is an under statement. Looks to be another cold night tomorrow.....

Manny's problems have never been about his ability at the plate.

He has a .409 career OBP, so you know he knows how to be selective.

btw that liner hit the ground before he caught it. Not like it matters though.
