Do people still try and tether on AT&T unlimited plans? I got the dreaded warning text at the iOS 7 jailbreak and immediately upgraded to stock iOS and haven't dared go back.

What's the latest? Is one app able to avoid detection? Or is staying under 5GB all you need to do?

I really think it's different across the country. I've seen so many different reports, but for the most part AT&T isn't bothering to knock off folks from unlimited if they tether. It's basically the throttle point folks have to worry about. Another thing is I've only ever been throttled once - on a trip to NYC last year. Other than that, here in Southern California, I've never been throttled when pass the 3GB limit (I have a 4S), so this isn't something I actively worry about either. Because of this, I continue with my jailbreaking and am happy to do so.

Jailbreaking is running unverified 3rd party code that exploits a security vulnerability. So yes, it's much more insecure than simply having root access. It's equivalent to sharing root access to your device with a group of anonymous hackers who are giving away a valuable exploit for "free".

Good luck with that.

pure BS, sorry.

You'd be making it far easier for bad guys to put malware on your iPhone. As thousands of Chinese users are finding out as I write...

oh please.... learn the facts before posting BS...

The Chinese users affected by wirelurker were affected even if they weren't jailbroken. It used enterprise provisioning to install software on devices. Also, jailbreak developers historically have fixed security flaws with patches before Apple has. Please do your research before discrediting the jailbreak community.

Do your own research by reading an analysis of WireLurker. Do you see the extensive documentation about jailbroken devices and trojanization? And how that has been taken advantage of?

Pointing out the dangers inherent in jail-breaking – of which there are many – is not, by the way, an ad hominem attack of the jail-breaking community.

See below, Sherlock.

Too be fair, the above link starts out with malware appearing on non jailbroken devices and Macs.

Try going past 5gb and see what happens.

If an idiot accepts the offer of installing a dodgy enterprise certificate, he's in trouble. A jail-broken person in similar circumstances is in bigger trouble.

If there was some sort of back door and Pangu was collecting information, at least one of the hundreds (maybe thousands) of developers in this space would have noticed.

definitely. this is why one should just ignore anti-Chinese/ anti-JB cr@p in this thread.

lolz :D

Nice idea but they inject the apps using a fake/pirated certificate that says they are legit. That's how the 'virus' works.

it's NOT a cert stolen from the original dev of the app, unlike the original post's statement.

'Everyone' in the JB community ? Really ? lol..

Naive, you are :)

he's right.

Neat.... JB's are getting simpler all the time :D

Apple should really not allow u to use tools apart from iTunes for doing anything or Apple approved apps.

That's the trouble.

The only reason I'd jailbreak is to have a tweak to enable compatible functionality that Apple disabled.

For example, Wifi calling on the iPhone 5. If the hardware is compatible, lets get it working!

It's NOT dangerous if you don't install cr@p / cracked DEB's / cracked IPA's. I've been JBing on almost all my (dozens of) iDevices since 2008 and never had any security incident. Because I simply didn't install cracked / pirated stuff and carefully made sure sshd is either disabled or, when I did need to SSH into my devices, my root password changed. I've never had any problems.

Again: it's perfectly acceptable for Apple's reps to speak against JBing (and even spreading lies WRT JB'ing, which Apple frequently does). You (and other people posting warnings), however, aren't Apple. You don't need to defend your interests (e.g., to completely cripple their BT implementation so that noone transfers for example MP3 files from a friend's phone), unlike Apple.

Apparently no Android users (present, or past) here.

No one thought of how the jailbreak community might open up NFC?

NFC has never been terribly amazing but it's fun to play with and the 6's use an OTS chip but cripple what it can do.

I'll only jailbreak for nefarious reasons and NFC. If my phone has hardware that I can't use, because Apple says so, then I'm doing it on sheer principle. F them. I have an NFC chip... I'm going to use it. Well, provided that someone makes it usable.

No new info on it yet (I'm continuously monitoring the Net for any NFC hacking-related info as I'm a diehard NFC user). I really hope someone finds out how it can be opened.

It's a great shame Apple hasn't opened it so that they can protect their pathetic Apple Pay. NFC is just GREAT, I very frequently use it for quick device pairing / file transfer.

Installed on an iPod Touch 5G that was previously running iOS 7.1.4 without issue.

Everything went smoothly and seems to be working fine, although there's a lot of UI lag and un-responsiveness that wasn't there before. There doesn't seem to be anything obviously changed or improved with iOS 8 so I probably should have left it as it was.

In Japan the only way to disable the full-volume camera shutter sound is to jailbreak.

Annoying in the extreme.

When I read about 8.1.1 being on the way, I got antsy and just jailbroke on my Windows machine at work. Glad it's out for Mac though. I'll always jailbreak. There's always going to be more offered than stock iOS.

On a side note, I've noticed zero battery drain after jailbreaking, other than the first day when I was in Cydia all day updating, downloading packages, adding sources, etc. My 6 Plus is still in beast mode when it comes to battery life.... YESSSS!

Is it stable guys, for the most part?

Yup. Windows and Mac. Did my 6 Plus on Windows at work, my girlfriend's 6 on her iMac. Perfect. :)

My iPad 2 is still on 7.1.2, I wasn't going to upgrade to 8 because its supposed to run horribly on the iPad 2, but now I'm tempted. Would you guys in my shoes ?.
