You'd be making it far easier for bad guys to put malware on your iPhone. As thousands of Chinese users are finding out as I write...

The Chinese users affected by wirelurker were affected even if they weren't jailbroken. It used enterprise provisioning to install software on devices. Also, jailbreak developers historically have fixed security flaws with patches before Apple has. Please do your research before discrediting the jailbreak community.

Are you comparing a shirt or cup with a piece of software that can possibly steal crucial and personal info ?

Calling Pangu "software that can possibly steal crucial and personal info" is utter FUD. It has been vetted and analyzed by everyone in the JB community and it is not even an issue except for said FUD.

'Everyone' in the JB community ? Really ? lol..

Naive, you are :)

The creator of Cydia gave it a thumbs up, Paranoid you are.

Not paranoid, but realist. As a Network Security Analyst, I've seen some very interesting stuff from that corner of the globe on US servers.

Take it for what it's worth, but I'm steering clear of this rather unnecessary exploit injection for some trivial gains.

lol..and everything you see on CNN is also true because..according to your logic ( or lack thereof ) it's been said so on a major news network!

The IQ on the Internet is really stunning!!

Enjoy the JB..from China :)

Ah I see. So as a "Network Security Analyst", you are more qualified to speak on this than the guys that literally wrote the book on iOS kernel security? The people that have CVE's in their names and have been personally thanked by Apple for reporting vulns? The experts that were the guests and speakers of honor at Hack In The Box and JailbreakCon? Nah, I think I'll listen to them over you. Unless you want to link to your CVE's and iOS security publications?

I mean, the list of reasons to jailbreak isn't as exciting as it was in 2010. I used to jailbreak all the time, but it seems like Apple is finally giving people features they want. Good for those who want it, but it's not for me anymore.

Does anyone know the technical reasons why an Apple TV still cannot be jailbroken?

It does not run a full copy of iOS, so the processes and files that are used to jailbreak full iOS devices are typically missing on the Apple TV. It depends on pure luck whether they are also on the Apple TV or not.

So is your iPhone. Along with the final build of iOS.

But you trust Apple?

Yeah! When was the last time Apple created malware or was found to have compromised hundreds of thousands of users via the app store??

Like the clothes you're wearing and the cup you just drank out of?

Are you deliberately trying to be argumentative, or just completely miss the point?

And for anyone wondering about what cool stuff a jailbreak can do for iOS 8: http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2014/11/the-best-jailbreak-apps-and-tweaks-for-ios-8/

I've gotta say that at first I was very hesitant at the thought of jailbreaking an iPhone 6. With all that Apple Pay etc... but thinking a bit more about it - isn't the hardware behind Apple Pay 100% secure? Could anyone even get their hands on that data even if they did have full access to the device? I don't have an iPhone 6 yet, don't even live in the US... Can a 3rd party app somehow interact with the Apple Pay app to retrieve card data? Or is that impossible as well?

I would like to JB, good to know that it's impossible to brick a device now. But I've gotta think that it's stupid not to think twice when devices are gaining more and more financial capabilities etc.

Apple Pay data is in the Secure Enclave.

Per Apple:

The Secure Enclave is a coprocessor fabricated in the Apple A7 chip. It utilizes its own secure boot and personalized software update separate from the application processor. It also provides all cryptographic operations for Data Protection key management and maintains the integrity of Data Protection even if the kernel has been compromised."

The thing that I hate about Apple iOS:

That Apple hasn't given any way to change icons freely.

I regularly use custom icons with OS X, have been since 2003.

I wrote Apple Feedback earlier this year, pleading for them to give us a way to change iOS icons to custom icons of our choosing, but not the very limiting icon sets / themes available in select "customization" apps from the App Store because they're cheesy.

I suggested creating an icon editor / changer in iTunes, similar to how we're able to visibly sort and arrange iOS apps in iTunes with iOS device plugged in. Changing icons freely is why I would jailbreak my iOS device.

This is EXACTLY my reason for jailbreaking as well! :D

you both know about the three finger triple tap to extra dim that's now part of iOS 8 right?

I know that f.lux does more than that, but some people used to use it just for extra dimming.

"No reason to jailbreak"
Subjective. Here are some tweaks that completely change my iOS experience. Many know most of these tweaks, but for people that don't...
I am sure that this is subjective, but it would be interesting to know how many people actually need these tweaks.
For me, the "kill all apps" function could come in handy in some situations, but it's not worth the risk of installing an untrusted program with no access restriction on my iPhone.

Damn bro, I could actually hear the pipe ripping into his cornhole as I read your reply.

JUST WATCH THE REBOOTS WITH PASSCODE/TOUCH LOCK ENABLED

Bootloops.. Even I forgot and had to do a restore.

I'll jailbreak my iPad so i can use a bluetooth mouse on it

Makes the difference when using Word.

Indeed the advent of ios 8 has lessened the necessity of the jailbreak, yet Apple has not completely rendered the jailbreak useless. I just jailbroke yesterday to get tethering ability on my AT&T unlimited data plan...

Do people still try and tether on AT&T unlimited plans? I got the dreaded warning text at the iOS 7 jailbreak and immediately upgraded to stock iOS and haven't dared go back.

What's the latest? Is one app able to avoid detection? Or is staying under 5GB all you need to do?

Distributing / installing pirated apps does NOT require stolen dev certs. You'd only need them (more specifically, private push / IAP certs) for submitting apps to Apple themselves to, say, direct push messages to themselves.

Otherwise, app pirates are NOT interested in certs stored on iDevices.

Nice idea but they inject the apps using a fake/pirated certificate that says they are legit. That's how the 'virus' works.
