Part II - UDP For Life

I saw a 64 GB Gold Plus on istocknow, my white whale of iPhones. Decided to throw caution to the wind and added a line (which I wanted to do eventually anyway). Went to the Apple Store and it went off without a hitch, they didn't ask me to open it to activate or anything. And this is with unlimited messaging as well as data. Got home, opened it up, and the SIM activated without any problems either.

Now I'm going to sell my black one. I bought it after having only seen photos of the phones. Once I saw them in person, I knew I had to have the gold. Probably going to suspend my line until my fiancee can take it over.

that's great!!! But really none of us knows how long this glitch will stay open so it is good that you got it b/f it is too late.

This isn't a side business for me. In fact, it's not even a business. I got myself one line for my own use within the first week the offering was discovered and simply wanted to save myself as much money per month, thank you very much.

I said exactly what Jules suggested I say that I'm transferring the line but not the phone so can we please put a PDI (they call it a dummy number) on the AOL'd line so I am free to use my phone right away. Did 3 today and 2 the day before using those exact words

So here is yesterday's adventure. I call CSR in the morning to see if I have any pending applications, to get them removed, and they tell me I'm not on any hold and good to go.

Go to the Apple store, analyst review. The Apple rep told me I had to call, so I call a Verizon number and after 15 mins get to a rep. I explain that this is day three of this and that I had called this morning and everything was supposed to be ok. She confirms all my information and pushes it through. Tells me to tell the rep to try again and it goes through. Before I can ask about my second line she hangs up on me.

Round 2, same analyst review. Same 15 min wait. Get another rep who verifies all my information and then puts me on hold for 10 mins. She comes back and says the second application was "flagged" and only a supervisor could remove it. At this point I'm annoyed. I ask why it's flagged, explain my account is 10+years old, credit score is 780, and never missed a Verizon payment. She says she can't say. I push more, no response. She then repeats only a supervisor can remove it. I say fine, please transfer me to a supervisor then please. *CLICK*

So I think my account is flagged for fraud, but I'm not sure. I answered every question they could ask without hesitation, I'm calling from the main number on the account, etc. After spending over an hour total on the phone with Verizon I got one iPhone.

Super annoyed and not sure what to do to proceed at this point.

Try the 5s. They are still popular, particularly the 32GB model. Apple has a 10 device per person limit. Otherwise, try a different Apple ID. Did you say your mother has some of your lines? Maybe she can lend you her Apple ID.

OK but if I order using my mom's apple ID on my Verizon account, how will that work with p/u? I would be the account owner but my mother is the one ordering the line?

Now that I am remembering, didn't someone say if you use Apple Gift cards that would cure the problem? I think I am going to get one of those and try it with my same Apple ID.

That's what someone said on the SlickDeals thread, as well. I'm guessing all this activity has finally made it up to whomever the decision makers are at VZW. I also wonder whether they'll close the "loophole" at the same time, or still allow people to add unlimited accounts for their own use.

Anyway, if this is confirmed, it makes for some interesting pricing decisions. They'll be lots of motivated sellers, but at the same time, it would be a "last opportunity" for many to get an unlimited plan.

These lines just became valuable again if you are willing to rent them out as UDP MHS.

I wonder if it was unintentional at first, but then kept open as a silent "promotion" or test market to see what kind of demand there might be in the future for a higher-priced unlimited plan. Right now AT&T and Verizon are in a data giveaway war with the mobile share plans as they try various techniques to wean people away from upfront subsidies. But if a lot of people were willing to AOL UPD accounts in (after someone else used the subsidy) then it could be an indication of demand.

I suspect it will be like ATT - a YMMV thing where the reps may or may not do it for you depending on the rep. It would make this far more complicated to do though.

According to the Verizon AOL rep, Verizon will no longer allow the unlimited data feature to remain if doing the Assumption of Liability after November 13th.

Looks like it already mentioned so wanted to add my comment.

I don't think this was ever intentional. All they had to do to gauge demand was see what the lines were selling for on ebay.

Yes, it would probably be relatively easy to get it swapped between family members in the same household, but not to some random stranger 4 states away.
