Oh no, I don't think this is a way to get a smartphone and then drop the data plan. I think it's just a way to get a basic line to use for upgrades.
You don't need the iconic portal for that - you can order directly through Verizon's regular site. If all you are doing is adding a basic line, there are no issues with that.

The issue I was talking about was that we no longer can order a subsidized smartphone with a new line and then drop the data plan. We used to be able to do that. Now Verizon requires you to pay for a data plan for 2 years if you get a subsidized smartphone when you add a line.

We want the subsidized smartphone to sell to pay for the basic line for 2 years so it is free. Or you can just keep the subsidized smartphone whatever, but the point is that the value of the subsidized smartphone pays for the basic line for 2 years making it free. We used to be able to do that but on 8/25/14 they stopped that and now the new lines have the asterisk with both a contract end date and a data plan end date.

Also, this only applies to legacy plans, not to more everything plans, but no one here cares about ME plans.

I see. I actually had problems ordering a basic line through Verizon's regular website (not the iconic portal), so I assumed that was what you meant.

I'm content to simply have the line as is. Although if I can I'll cancel it and reorder through the Comcast portal instead.

The comcast promo is only for smartphones. Again the issue was to get the smartphone and drop the data plan.

You are better off AOL'ing someone's basic line that is about to go off contract than adding a new basic line. You can buy a used Verizon flip phone for $12 to put on the AOL'ed basic line:

This is why I suggested you AOL dreamjaeil's sister's basic line b/c it would cost you about $20 for the time remaining on the contract. Plus the $12 for a flip phone. Then on 12/1/14 you could do the Jaycemiskel method and get a new smartphone to pay for the basic line for 2 years.

I PM'ed dreamjaeil but got no response. I just paid $13 for this flip phone through Verizon, so I'm not out that much (except the smartphone). So if dreamjaeil gets back to me soon, I'll AOL that line and cancel the order. If I don't hear back, I'll keep the phone and activate it.

Again the issue was to get the smartphone
So hopefully that is clear - the "industry" we all are engaged in here is flipping iPhones. People are now giving away UDP lines. The UDP lines are merely a vehicle to get an iPhone to flip. Ordinarily you couldn't get rid of a 2 year smartphone contract, but a UDP line still is valuable enough that someone would take the 2 year contract off of your hands for free.

Where you make money in this "industry" is by flipping the iPhone.

Why anyone would want an iPhone when they can get a GIGANTIC Nexus, idk, but they do. The GIGANTIC Nexus can easily be unlocked and rooted and turned into a free WIFI MHS that can also be used as a phone and text messaging device, and if you put it on vibrate it can be used for, uh, well, nevermind but I am sure the ladies understand

Try one of those cell phone trading forums.

I understand you guys are looking to flip phones. I really just want the unlimited lines and the ability to upgrade my main line yearly. Anything else is just icing on the cake.

Anybody know how long a micro SIM card is good for if you don't activate it? I got an iPad through Verizon about 6 months ago and never used the SIM card it came with. I might want to activate it on an AOL'd UDP line, but I don't know if it is still good...

Verizon claims the SIM card ICCIDs get kicked out of their system eventually if they are inactive. Never has happened to me. I have reactivated SIM cards over 1 year old no issues.

PSA - the GIGANTIC Nexus goes on pre-order on the 29th through the playstore. I need to flip 2 more iPhone6+ to get it.

Verizon is allowing Nexus phones bought from the play store on their network? That's big. I assumed the play store would only have the GSM versions.

Really, you had to go and do that. Ugh. Do I really need to upgrade phones again, I just got this LG G3 like 2 months ago.

Nexus does look good and we can thank moto relationship with vzw for gettin this on their network but as a former gnex user I'm skeptical about updates till verizon says they come from Google cause i remember waiting months after gsm would get theirs before us poor souls got ours. Sometimes 3 to 4 months. Have I missed anything from Verizon stating how the updates would work??

Oh thank you! You talked me back from the ledge. I remember that with the Galaxy Nexus, I loathed that phone despite wanting to love it so bad. I mean you could also run an unofficial ROM release but still.

How have the past two Nexus devices been? Were they improved over the Galaxy Nexus enough to compete with the rest of the market?

haha you know I still have to buddies who give me s@#t cause I hyped the gnex so much they both got it too and I was tellin them updates directly from google plus it will be the only phone to run ics for months. then the bad radios and the horrible battery life and slow updates and to this day when ever we go look at phones they say don't ever listen to him he'll have u get the worst for Verizon has to offer while tellin u how awesome it is. haha

I just seem to think Verizon will update their turbo first. both moto phones yes but one an exclusive to Verizon and is it weird you can pre order the nexus the day after the turbo is announced and probably released. im sure Verizon said let our early adopters get our exclusive before we have that available.

Lol my fiance still hates me for that gnex as well. Oh how I don't miss that things. I honestly haven't looked much at the Turbo because I'm not a big fan of all the crap they used to put on top of vanilla Android. Does Moto still do that with the Droid line of phones? I heard its a beast of a phone but not much past that.

Yes, if the phone is active on another Verizon line, it cannot be on 2 Verizon lines at the same time.

Marky says otherwise, but I wouldn't play SIM card games like that b/c you can find yourself with pretty bad issues on a line. Fine if the line is a regular old line - after hours on the phone with tech support they may be able to fix it for you. But I wouldn't play SIM card games with a new UDP line.

You can't activate it through Verizon CS or the VZW website but if you take an active SIM card and put it into a device, it will activate and work just fine 100% guaranteed.

I think moto has done a great job sticking as close to vanilla android as possible and it what allows them to have quick updates on their phones. I believe their updates for even their droid line last year were getting updates a week after the nexus. the turbo looks amazing on paper with the huge 3900mah battery, 5.2 inch display and even though their cameras have been lacking over the years hopefully they got it right this year and not only have 21 mega pixels but a great sensor, all that being said I prefer the look of the nexus hands down cause the turbo on the outside looks like a 2012 device but I want the battery and camera from turbo on the nexus. and in a perfect world a smaller 5.2 nexus as well cause im a big guy with big hands but prefer smaller phones the big ones just aren't practical for me. with a case on the nexus it will be like holding a loaf of hot dog bread against your face.!

I currently use a iphone 6 but added a udp from apple cpl weeks ago and got a i6+ grey and tried it for a few before selling and that phone was massive and nexus is bigger than that

quick size info

iphone 6
5.44x2.64

iphone 6 plus
6.22x3.06

new nexus
6.27x3.27

gnote 4
6.04x3.09

ill give moto credit though they have almost an extra 1/2 inch on screen on the nexus compared to the 6+ and height is almost the same. apple needs to drop dem bezels

Yes the aesthetic thing of keeping the chin and head of the phone equal creates a device that doesn't need to be as big as the 6+ is.

The battery on the Turbo sounds amazing, that was why I loved my Note devices. I loved the Note screens, however it was just a tiny bit too big for one handed use. I moved to the LG G3 with a 5.5 screen and think it's just right. I have to put my phones in otterboxes so I agree the Nexus is going to be like carrying a brick. Decisions decisions.

I may just keep the G3 because I'm not sure I want to go back to a smaller screen. I tried the Galaxy S5 and just hated it the entire time.

Say I AOL a line from someone, can I move that line to a sub account if it will put me over 5 lines on my family share, or do you have to max at at 5 before you can move to a sub account?

Also, would the total account bill remain the same per month when you create a sub or will it now treat the line as an individual plan? All lines are part of a family share plan. Really appreciate all the help and information from you guys, much more knowledgeable than their own reps lol.

My understanding is that a sub account is an entirely new/separate account. So it would be an individual line.

First, google is implementing more and more of the operating system as apps so that those can be updated directly through the playstore.

Second, the Moto X got updates almost as fast as the Nexus 5 and certainly faster than the Nexus 4.
