My friend just came across a standstill in the AOL process.

He set up an AOL, and the person who was to receive the line was unable to do so.

The rep said:

that (phone number) was no longer on a Family Share with UDP... it has been converted to a line on the More Everything plan.

The recipient probably had a ME plan on his account. You cannot AOL a UDP line into an account with a ME plan - the UDP line will be merged into the ME plan and lose UDP. The recipient MUST set up a subaccount to receive the UDP line if they have a ME plan.

There may be an exception if the line is broken off first as an individual line b/f AOL but there is no sense in testing this out. Tell the recipients they must set up a subaccount to receive the line if they have a ME plan.

And obviously, there cannot be a ME plan in the subaccount.

Thanks, i'll relay the message.

Damn newbie AOL receivers.

I just completed an AOL process just under an hour ago. I had to hang up on two reps. They said the unlimited data cannot be retained because the "plan is no longer offered". However, I knew better. Third time was a charm!

Apparently the supervisor has also confirmed this.

When my friend logs in, it still shows it as a line in the Nationwide Talk and Text.

Perhaps they're finally trying to defend against all these AOL of UDP lines by flat out lying?

I thought it could be a line on ME? Or someone said you need it to be in sub account first then combine them?

They are the ones who would pay..... This crowd would never pay for a true aol.

You don't merge the UDP line into the ME plan. You can merge ME lines into the UDP line and they will convert to NW 2GB plans.

For the recipient of an AOL transfer of a line with UDP, is it possible to change the phone number when completing the transfer / will the Verizon rep offer that as an option? I don't want on my account no telephone number with an area code in Texas, darn it! ;)

They charge you $15 if you have a rep do it. Just log online and do it yourself for free.

You can do that in my Verizon on your own after aol

This is just to confirm this. I purchased a iP6 on launch day and selected 300mb data(before knowing UDP) was an option. Well I put a basic phone on their and the data dropped on its own. Even though it said "data contract length etc." I have not tried this on a UDP line, however I think it should work all the same. The reasoning behind this is, one this is technically an older plan, so some of the older methods should work. Like added a dumb phone to a line and having the data drop.

Gtk, thanks! I wondered if they had implemented a way to enforce this in their system yet. Seems like they haven't fully implemented a way to enforce the data plan requirement so you may still be able to get a smartphone and a basic line.

then it would be a good time to convince people to get multiple lines at once! So this way they can switch all the lines to UDP... but if you were paying 150 for unlimited data for 5 lines, is it really worth it?

With a 5 line NW T&T plan sharing 2000 minutes, 10 F&F price is $310/mo with subsidized phones on top of that but everyone gets UDP. 2000 minutes with 10 F&F may or may not be enough for some familys of 5 people.

What is the other option? 5 lines on a ME plan sharing 10GB of data is $300/mo if you get subsidized upgrades. UL minutes but each line only gets 2GB of data. So for only $10 more per month, everyone gets UDP but you have to be able to live with 2000 minutes and 10 F&F.

However, if you do Edge, ME is $175/mo but then you pay for 5 smartphones full price on top of that. If they are all 16GB iP6, that adds another $135/mo bringing bill to $310/mo but still a better deal overall than the ME subsidized phone option b/c you don't have to pay for the subsidized upgrades and upgrade fee.

It just depends on how you use your phone - do you talk a lot or do you use a lot of data? With GV and hangouts dialer, you can get by with very little minutes if you have UDP. If you get your minutes down to 700, the bill drops to $280/mo but no hangouts dialer on the iP6.

AOL rep says if you AOL a line suspended w/o billing, it will reconnect the service upon AOL and the recipient needs to re-suspend w/o billing if they need to in order to give them time to get a Verizon phone.

Thanks for the analysis!
Yeah, we barely use talk minutes right now.... so will definitely drop down to 700.... just want to see what to keep and what to get rid of...

Ah, so it is a 4G smartphone placeholder device ID!!!!! Perfect! They eliminated dummy ESNs but they can put a 4G smartphone placeholder device id on your line.

This is what people need to ask for b/f they AOL a line to someone else - ask the AOL reps to put the 4G Smartphone PDI on the line.
Actually, it looks like it is called a provisional device id:

Provisional Device IDs

Beginning 8/24/14, a new Provisional Device ID (formerly Dummy ESN) process makes it faster and easier to add a provisional device ID onto a customer’s account while retaining the same price plan and data features. See the new process for your system below.

How do I add a Provisional Device ID to a customer’s line?

Point of Sale (POS) System
To activate a Provisional Device ID on a customer’s line using a POS system, follow these steps:
1. Type TEMP in the ESN field in POS
2. Appropriate Provisional Device ID will auto populate based on the customer’s device history
3. Click Save

Why are we doing this?

This change improves efficiency and the customer experience by:

Eliminating the need to search for or enter temporary ESN numbers
Ensuring the temporary Device IDs are compatible with the customer’s plan
Retaining all features and services, ensuring everything stays the same when returning the customer to a permanent device.

so that confirms you can get rid of UDP while suspended?

Get rid of the iPhones and get Nexi so you can use hangouts dialer and free WiFi hotspot.

No, what it confirms is that you can AOL a line that is suspended w/o billing but the person receiving the line will have to re-suspend if they want the line suspended w/o billing.

i think that's what will happen.
Right now for my parents
1 UDP off contract for my sis
Dumb off contract for mom
Dumb off contract for dad

Will end up with
1) 1 UDP off contract for sis
2) 1 UDP iphone 6 for mom
3) 1 UDP iphone 5s for dad
that's the simple part.
4) Suspend a dumb line.
5) Last UDP with andriod

- get rid of cable/fios internet.

5 = Nexi or your favorite cheap andriod that i can easily turn on tether.
Moto X dev ed but you have to unlock and root very easy, though on dev ed.

Verizon tech support says to call them b/f you AOL a line and they will put the 4G Smartphone PDI on the line to get your phone off of the line. Then you can AOL the line suspended w/o billing just make sure the person doesn't have a ME plan in their account and if they do, they need to receive the UDP line into a subaccount that doesn't have a ME plan in it.

Or you can do what Marky does but gtk there is an official way to get your phone off of the line b/f you AOL it.

i am not sure why you need to get the phone off the line? when the other person receive the line, cant they just go to verizon and ask for the sim card?
am i missing something?

yes, no new Moto X dev ed but you can still buy the OG Moto X dev ed off contract for $400 and they may go on sale soon for less. Great phone, btw. Camera not so great, though.

i am not sure why you need to get the phone off the line?
Because I don't want to AOL someone a line with one of my iPhones on it and have to wait for them to get a phone on the line b/f I can sell the iPhone. Marky's trick - he puts the iPhone SIM in his current phone b/f he sells the iPhone to get it off of the UDP line he is AOLing - technically should not work although he says it does.
