That's not good. That's a potential problem with aol the line first.
Yes Jules you are right. Next aol I do, will have them put a pdi on the line and tell the buyer get a phone on it asap.
Amen brother (sister?).

I am not trying to screw anyone here. I am the voice of caution. I am just telling you, be careful. You can't be as cavalier about these phone/SIM card issues as you may think you can b/c Verizon is not a GSM network.

Again - VERIZON IS A CDMA/LTE HYBRID NETWORK AND THERE IS A DEVICE MANAGEMENT DATABASE THAT ACTS AS A GATEKEEPER TO THE CDMA NETWORK AND FOR PHONES ON THE VERIZON NETWORK, THEY HAVE TO WORK ON THE CDMA NETWORK AND THUS, THEY HAVE TO HAVE WHITELISTED IMEIs IN THE DEVICE MANAGEMENT DATABASE.

Playing SIM card trickery may work if the phones and lines remain in your possession. But if you get rid of either, you need to be wary of SIM card trickery.

So I AOL'ed a line to a friend of a friend (luckily I still have the iP to return to reverse all of this) and the FoaF has the free mobile to any mobile promo on his family share line.

The line was a single line 450 individual plan with UDP. He AOL'ed it into his main account and they merged it into his family share. UDP gone.

Was the problem that he has free mobile to any mobile promo or was the problem that it was split off from my family share as a single line individual line first? Or was the problem neither - did he just get an idiot AOL rep who didn't know how to maintain UDP?

Or was the problem that these new lines have the asterisk requiring a minimum $30 data plan and they don't merge well?

OK - just found out the problem, the idiot AOL rep wasn't able to figure out how to merge the individual line into a family share and changed it into some loyalty plan with a 1GB data plan, arrrrrrrggggggghhhh.

Well, apple is going to eat that idiot Verizon rep's mistake b/c the phone is going back.

I've ported a number into my aol'ed udp like. Has anyone seen a text coming from Verizon to call in to finish the port on a new activated phone? I'm just wary of calling into Verizon.

I totally get what you're saying and you're absolutely right. I didn't know about PDI's until after I AOL'd my last two lines. What happened is that someone I AOL'd to didn't put a device on his line yet. I contacted him and he's getting a SIM card Saturday. He may have suspended the account. Would that put the MEID on a temporary blacklist?

I think they may just want to know if you actually have possession of the line and the phone..... i think after aol, verizon doesnt really care. you've signed a contract, you've agreed to pay, they've agreed to provide a service. worst scenario, they terminate the contract.... you get off the line....

According to the tech representative I spoke with, no - suspending w/o billing should not do that. However, in the past I have done things where I created problems on a line and the rep couldn't do a switch device. In order to solve that issue the rep reported the SIM card as stolen in order to push that SIM card out of the Verizon system and off of my line. That doesn't sound like what happened to you since your guy is saying he doesn't have a device on the line yet.

Bottom line - as long as you leave one of your devices on a line you AOL you are vulnerable to whatever the person AOLing the line does. If you put the PDI on the line b/f you AOL the line, then it becomes the recipients problem to deal with the PDI. They cannot suspend the line w/o billing with a PDI on the line and they have a short period of time b/f they have to put a device on the line.

I haven't done a port but Verizon sends test texts all the time.

Also, please keep us posted. Is the device on 2 lines at once or just on the recipient's line?

At this point, I'm thoroughly confused. I contacted one of the people I AOL'd the line to. He confirmed that he didn't put a device on that line yet. It may or may not be suspended.
I was able to reactivate that line using the IP6 that was originally assigned to it. Now this IP6 shows as an IP5s, but is activated. The 5s is still blacklisted.

So, I have an IP6 activated showing as a 5s. The 5s is showing as blacklisted. I don't dare put the sim back in the 5s.

EDIT: Nevermind; the 6 just showed up.

I have found someone who wants to AOL 3 of my UDP lines (and potentially more in the future). Have any of you guys AOL'd multiple lines at once?

Would I be able to make one phone call to the AOL department and tell them I want to give 3 lines to one person? Or should I make a separate call for each line?

Thanks for in advance for your help

yes. you can do it all at once. I took over two lines from my parents account. one phone call on both ends.

I've done them in groups before with out issue.

Now where's that post saying what PDI stood for?

You are going to have to involve Verizon if you want that fixed.

cant do much if dont knows why it was blacklisted. because the buyer of the line reported it as stolen?

provisional device id?
my problem with that is, when I call in, say.
"Dude, can you please put a provisional device id on my line, so I can get rid of it without any problem."
"Sir, you sound too sophisticated, how do you know so much about transferring lines? Let me review your recent history"
"..."

I think it shouldnt be a probem for me, after all, my score is still in single digits. but for some of the bigger sellers... Just have to be careful.

i am a dude, thanks Jules for your help.
Enjoying the bigger and better iphone 6 than what you wanted originally?

Does anyone here have experience returning a phone and canceling the line?

The line has now been moved from a subaccount to the main account and changed to the 2GB plan. It's part of a different family plan than the one it was part of before. Will that mess up canceling the line w/o paying the etf or the activation fee?

i just returned the phone to apple store, the cancellation/refund came through a few days later... may delay more buying/selling....

dont know about the second part, since the phone bill right now is very messed up, havent sort out that mess yet.

Did the line cancel? I would not delay if the line did not cancel.

Did that really happen? If so, what did they review and what would they have done otherwise? Seems bizarre, but I guess it does seem like a strange request to a rep

no it did not.
just played out in my own head.

----------

Why did you return it?

i ported out at&t by using "your own number" option on apple.com.
when it ported over, it got on a TDP. So that was a big to do. First port to GV, request a new number on verizon, port back in....
but the easiest part of that was canceling the line. I thought it would be a problem, since now the line is under a different phone number. It went fine. They scanned phone, just took it and said "it would take a few days, since all return phones go back to California to be inspected...."

----------

How are all of you scalpers doing today ?

speaking of which, found some guy who would take all udp lines, for FREE. Can you believe that? I dont even have to pay him to take UDP off my hand. What a deal!

I didn't realize that it had gotten that bad that you were having to pay people to take the lines...:mad::rolleyes:
