but the easiest part of that was canceling the line. I thought it would be a problem, since now the line is under a different phone number. It went fine. They scanned phone, just took it and said "it would take a few days, since all return phones go back to California to be inspected...
Did the line cancel automatically or did you have to call to cancel the line? Did they verify the phone was returned so you didn't have to pay the etf?

I can confirm that when I returned an iPhone at the Apple store when I got an STI error, I called both Verizon and Apple to push the cancellation and I was able to pick up another within 30 minutes

thanks, when I called verizon they said apple would call them to confirm the phone was returned to cancel the line. Is that what happened to you?

What do you mean you had them push the cancellation?

What number are you guys calling to start the AOL process? I've been dialing 611 but its hit or miss to find someone who knows what they're doing. Especially with getting a PDI... Thanks.

Clear the system so I can go ahead and start a new order again.

i didnt push the issue like you did. i figure my number was changed, and from what the apple store crs told me, it would take a few days anyway. I have two verizon two apple accounts, i still can do what i need to do on those....

I just setup an AOL transfer about 10 minutes ago.

Normally I just call 800 922 0204 and the rep there usually assists me. This morning I was directed towards the AOL department to start the procedure.

This is the first time this happened to me, BUT this confirms that you can start it when calling the AOL department as well I guess.

Lady was confused that I wanted to put the Provisional Device ID on the phone number before the transfer. I just said he was waiting on his Verizon smartphone and he won't have access to the phone that's currently on file. Seemed to be good enough and she said sure.

Granted, I just refreshed My Verizon page and it still shows the iPhone. Maybe she didn't go through with it in the end.

Thanks! I'll give it a whirl and mention the Provisional device id on it. I just have to specify that its only the line NOT the device.

Just logged on, shows no phone (blank phone picture), and it lists:

4G Smartphone PDI + unlimited data

So she did end up doing it. Took about 15 minutes for it to update on my end.

Awesome! Thanks JulesJam for letting us know about this to further protect us

Thanks, man! That's good to know and also you can just call AOL directly. Awesome!

When you guys do this, does the new owner takes over where you left off, curious as to what happens to the end contract date

Omg fml so painful!!!!!!

That was soooooo painful. The Apple reps did not know what they were doing and then wouldn't call Verizon for me. They are supposed to call the Verizon Core department to cancel the line but they acted like they have never heard about that.

Tried 2 verizon reps b/f I got one who knew how to get it cancelled today. If you don't have Apple do this, you have to wait to order again or try to get someone in Verizon to call the Core department.

So many dumba$$ verizon reps and apple reps. What a clusterfock.

What exactly does this get you? I haven't had any trouble AOL'ing a line that had never had a phone activated on it before...

----------

With a sub account you can have an additional 5 lines added to your account as opposed to the 5 max lines that can be on one nationwide shared account.

brilliant, thanks

You are going to have to involve Verizon if you want that fixed.

I put the sim in from the line I AOL'd and my 5s activated with data. The ESN is still showing in Verizon as "stolen". Weird.
PDI's from now on, thanks for letting me know about them.

You may not even need to activate the phones b/c leopardhead2021 is saying you can AOL the lines w/o ever having put a phone on them.

And the phones will be ok to activate on another line?
Ask leopardhead since he is the one claiming you can do this. I would think if they were scan activated in-store they would be fine but you would still need to open them up and take out the SIM card b/c if a buyer did turn them on with that SIM card in it, it would still be associated with the line you AOLed. I think the phone would activate on the other person's line.

I'm close to done here so I called Verizon to cancel my daughters old line. She said I won't take effect until Nov 3. Why can't the cancel immediately and bill me for her line for the remaining days? Is this how cancellations work?
