sadly, this is true. It was time to update my laptop needs, and I went with an ASUS ROG with AMD and NVidia
hardware for games and productivity. Can't be a fanboy, just have to get what works. So, now I have an Intel hackintosh and a monster AMD machine for all of my work and games.

Apple could fix that by working with engine developers, but will they?
Why would they? They're way more interested in renting games to you on their "arcade" service.

I'd love to hear the pitch meeting of a service like GOG to Apple. "What do you mean, DRM free? How do you continually monetize a product when it's DRM free? Buy to own? Do you think this is 2008?"

In matters of War, if you can not defeat your enemy outright, be sure to suffocate their growth and prosperity… and companies like Intel (despite previous “partnerships” with Apple) have severely (and maybe even illegally) inhibited Apple’s growth over the years with back room deals unbeknownst to the public, that protects the development of software for the hardware to which they sell.
No, not illegally. Just how business is done. And, like many times before (maybe THIS is the primary reason why Apple is so successful), when a roadblock is presented to them, they make the hard decision to “make their own”. That phrase comes up a lot when talking about the recent trials “If companies don’t like it, they should make their own”. I mean, it’s simple sense. Companies that don’t do it end up stuck in a dead end unable to drive their destiny and start looking for ANY OTHER SOLUTION other than “make your own”. Apple did it with phones, they did it with Google maps, they did it with Apple Silicon. NOTHING is preventing any other company from taking this path, but few have the “courage” to take big risks even when the rewards could be enormous.

Most e-sport games or even some AAA title run just fine on laptops with dedicated GPUs. What do you mean by "play games seriously"? There are regular and casual gamers. In both cases, a laptop can server you just fine if you connect external monitor, keyboard and mouse.
I’ve found in these forums, the intensifier “serious” usually means “not on an Apple device”. For example:
Yeah, you can browse FaceBook on a Mac but you can’t do any SERIOUS FaceBooking.
You stick with your toy phone, I’ve got to make SERIOUS phone calls.
If you want to do SERIOUS drawing, you’re going to have to leave your iPad behind!

In all cases, if you assume that serious means “not on an Apple device”, then all of the statements are accurate!

AMD & Nvidia don't sell mid tier GPU`s as they used to do , what is the cheapest MSRP card you can get from Nvidia now days ? 3000 series , if no shortage was to be had that is.

The 3060 MSRP would have been around US$329. There's also the forthcoming 3050... Nvidia's strategy would have probably been different given no semi-conductor shortage

Wow, shocker, people that buy computers you can’t tinker with or tweak (macs) and make up a small portion of the market can’t play all the games available on the biggest platform . This Mac owner also owns a ps5 and series X
because… it.. just.. works…

I think the only valid point is that in 2021, a $700 upgrade price for the Radeon Pro 5600M is probably not a great deal even with HBM2.
I hope Apple doesn’t tout the compute capabilities of their future GPU’s. They’re going to be hard enough to get because of the chip shortage without scalpers trying to jump in line!

Not for games, but there are other, very valid, use cases for wanting to be able to use NVIDIA graphics cards that a Mac just can't match. If Apple would get over their nonsense and bury the hatchet with NVIDIA so that there was at least eGPU support then that would open up whole new opportunities for Mac users in addition to and beyond gaming.
As someone who uses CUDA I can say another option is to move beyond a technology tied to a specific type of GPU. This isn't really an Intel or NVIDIA issue but Apple not officially supporting NVIDIA hopefully moves developers to other options: OpenCL, OpenGL, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.

Mac’s we’re never meant for anything but getting stuff done. Programming, compilation tasks, video editing, photo stuff, etc. As for games, Apple Arcade is not bad at all for casual games. Any serious gamer is going to play on a Xbox, PS5 or PC, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Intel is coming off so incredibly bitter with these slights at Apple Silicon. For so many years Intel reaped the reward of Apple’s success and now AMD sits at the performance throne (in both desktop and server spaces). Times sure have changed.

The only way Mac gaming can get serious is if Apple itself creates the triple-A titles. No one else has the combination of means and incentive to do so.
Apple Arcade provides an incentive to developers to create games and, based on customer engagement, they get paid. If someone like me plays Clap Hans golf daily, then the developer is getting money without having to beg me for IAPs. I have no idea how much it is, but I wouldn’t be surprised if, after testing this with smaller developers, they extend it to the larger ones. Most of them will likely not want to give up the IAP cash and “Seasons” money, but there’s likely some that wouldn’t mind pulling in money and all they have to do is release bug fixes regularly. :)

Macs have never been good for gaming, but to be honest, I don't care at all. I have a PS5 for all my gaming needs and I would never get a gaming PC. The amount of money a gaming PC costs is something I would never want to spend on Windows.
Of course there are people that love PC gaming. All these people shouldn't be looking for a Mac anyway.

My favorite game was Moria, back in the VAX/VMS days, and then onto PeeCees, and then on Macs, and then Diablo.

I don't game on a mac anymore because the Diablo III I have doesn't run on my mac because it's not 64-bit. So 'is Apple stopping from gaming on my mac'? No, it's Blizzard! I've heard of a 'new mac version' of Diablo, but can't seem to find anything other than 'it's coming'. It doesn't seem to be even breathing hard, does it?

EDIT: I've been looking for a MicroVAX III int he BA123 World Box, with a TK50 tape drive to load Moria on, and continue my history of wasting hours playing that engrossing game.
Why not move to Angband or Umoria? Sure, they might not be an exact recreation of your VAX but they will run on what you have.

My gaming PC just gathers dust in the corner of my study while I play Cities Skylines, 7 days to die, 2 Point Hospital , Planet Coaster , Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Papers Please, Sim Airport and many other games on either my M1 MacBook Pro or 16" i9 MacBook Pro. Anything else gaming I just use my PS4 , I just don't want to deal with Windows on my gaming PC.

Last time I booted up my gaming PC to play a Windows only game with my mates online it somehow lost the WiFi drivers and I had to re-install them before I could even load Steam, just what I wanted, messing around looking for my driver discs when I just wanted to play. When we play online as a group we use Discord on our iPads/iPhones with AirPods because Microphones just never seem to work right for any of us on Windows, and the newer 'Settings' instead of Control Panel testes my patients to the limit, its infuriating to use.

Gaming for me is suppose to be something to relax and enjoy... that conflicts with a using Windows.
If only I could play Trails in the Sky 1-3 on Mac. That would be WONDERFUL. Even the Macbook Air would have MORE than enough performance for it, its a Direct X 8 title that was ported to Direct X 9. This is all I am using my Windows PC for these days. My 2020 desktop with an older GPU is overkill for these games, and I would prefer to play it on my Mac.

In a press call with Intel's chief performance strategist Ryan Shrout about the new chips, Intel outlined an argument claiming that it is the supposedly poor gaming experience on Mac devices that makes Intel-based Windows devices superior. Intel derided Apple's M1 chip and boasted that most popular video games do not run on macOS.

intel-slides-over-half-of-games-not-supported-on-macos.jpg

The company highlighted a poor gaming experience on the Mac when using an emulator or virtual machine, showing a video of the game "Valheim" running poorly in Parallels on a Mac.
What does game availability on an OS have anything to do with how well a game performs on your processor?

This just shows the desperation Intel has to keep people and the industry from moving to ARM processors, which is the direction the industry is going for both Macs and PCs.

Intel, trying to have it both ways, take shots at Apple and then court them and say they want to work with them for Intel’s foundry to manufacture Apple Silicon.

Feels a lot like…

I have an Xbox series X, in my lounge, hooked up to my large OLED. That offers me a better gaming experience than a PC. Oh well.

I like to see Apple invest into some gaming companies so we could have some representation in this part of the computer industry. Sophisticated games make wonderful demos for illustration of the how fast Apple Silicon technology is.

Seeing how Macs, especially M1 Macs, generally don't run anything but casual games available on Apple's own Arcade, this really isn't disinformation. I love my M1 but it's disappointing that not even Steam works on this thing. It's not because it can't, rather because Valve doesn't see a big enough market to justify the work involved to make it happen.
At this point any serious gamer is going to be well aware PC is the only way to go for them, so I don't think they need the reminder here which makes the campaign itself feel weak and unnecessary.
