Odd, I saw Pebble in Samsclub

It definitely was not $99, not listed on their website.

Weird PR move. "None of these products, including ours, is that cool. Nobody get excited about anything, including our product! Seriously, these products -- including our product -- are not that great."

For the love of God. The Apple watch hasn't even been released yet and they are already running scared.

Can manufacturers not advertise on their products own merits? Must they always make cheap swipes at Apple?

Says the fanboy of a company who participated in this juvenile practice for nearly a decade. lulz

This is exactly the kind of thing someone says when they realize they're nowhere near as talented or capable as somebody else. Making smart ass remarks like we aren't trying to save global warming shows the company doesn't even believe in their own product or have very high aspirations. "We just made a watch, no big deal, we don't even care that much."

If the company pretends to not even care about what they did, what makes them think customers are going to either?

But hey at least they're being honest with themselves. Admitting that they're total amateurs that got an amateur product to market by gullible investors who didn't ask for a return on their investment (aka Kickstarter). You've had your fun, now it's time for the big boys to play.

Why even reference Apple if Pebble supposedly isn't targeting the same type of customer as the Apple Watch?

I actually really like Pebble steel. The Apple Watch just cemented that further. It's more practical. Not as full featured, but I don't care about that. I'd rather have something that looks and feels more like a traditional watch.

Apple's got some work to do.

Stupid ad, 99% of people will be saying "who the hell is Jony?".

Its not like the world is made up of macrumors or androidcentral readers: this is a for-geek ad made by a geek.

tl;dr - Pebble is screwed.

I really don't think so. The market is tiny right now...the Apple watch just validates the market and expands it.

I have a pebble steel and will probably pick up an Apple Watch Sport just for development purposes at least, but I don't see me getting rid of the pebble. The always on display is the primary draw for me...as it is a watch, so telling time shouldn't be a secondary function. That and the subtle backlighting as well which is enough to see in the dark, yet won't be super annoying to everyone around you when at the movies.

That plus the multiple day battery life and actual water proofing differentiate the pebble enough to keep it in its own category. And don't forget having the option to switch phone platforms - something Android Wear and the Apple Watch are incapable of doing.

So to recap the pebble does the main things I want from a smart watch:

- Tells the time...all the time
- Visible in sunlight
- Water proof
- Simple notifications
- Simple alarms
- Step counting
- Not having to worry about the battery making it through the day

The main thing missing that I would want from the Apple watch is a microphone with the ability to control Siri. The other stuff the Apple Watch does is cool, but I don't see why I would check something on my 1.5" screen when I have a much more capable device at arms length.

Companies who make ads that poke fun of other companies are just scared of them.

Pebble, I'm sorry, but your days are numbered. You might be around for another year or two... but 5-10 years from now no one is going to own a Pebble.

Step counting?
Is there a new watch out cause I have one from their kick starter days and it doesn't count steps.
