I like the pebble, its weeklong is very appealing to me. That said I am not buying a pebble or any other smart watch at this time.

When I take a two day trip with the family I don't want to have to take another charging device with me.

Battery life alone is keeping me from being an early smart watch owner.

Give me a full featured smart watch with a 3-4 day battery life after reasonable usage. Then you have my attention.

Yes I know this is not realistic with the current state of battery/processor/display technology.

Stupid ad, 99% of people will be saying "who the hell is Jony?".

Its not like the world is made up of macrumors or androidcentral readers: this is a for-geek ad made by a geek.

pretty sure the people buying a pebble would get the reference. Outside of myself, I have seen one in the wild. People buying a pebble are into technology.

I actually really like Pebble steel. The Apple Watch just cemented that further. It's more practical. Not as full featured, but I don't care about that. I'd rather have something that looks and feels more like a traditional watch.

Apple's got some work to do.

The Pebble Steel might have a traditional watch band, but that display is hideous. When did monochrome and grey-scale get cool again?

I own a Pebble (Kickstarter ed.) and as much as I have promoted their device on sites and as much as I like their watch I still don't understand where they are getting their 7 days between charges results. My Pebble only lasts 3 days max before requiring to be charged when being used. Maybe they mean 7 days turned off before requiring a charge. Mind you even 3 days is tops amongst smart watches. These ads are just knee jerk reactions towards a company that can steal one's thunder. Pebble is a very good watch, but it is limited to what it can do. They should be afraid of Apple as a competitor especially if Apple ever solves the battery issue.

Pebble isn't screwed because Apple is getting into the watch market, they're screwed because now that Apple is getting into the market the paradigm is going to shift on a tectonic scale. Sights will be set for more of that market share, and Pebble could get lost in the dust up.

Pebble may not have what Apple wants, but it could be a platform that another big player could build upon to get a quick launch into the competition.

People who say things like "it's just a ..." have completely missed the point.

Downplaying the importance of smart watches is a weird way to advertise your own smart watch.

Pebble had a good run but I think they will begin to fade into obscurity once the Apple Watch hits the market.

none of these devices will do well to track sleep habits if you have to take them off to charge them daily... When is one expected to do that if not when sleeping?

until the watches are able to make 2 or more days from a charge not worth it for me

I have a Pebble watch and I actually like it! It was an original kickstarter, and I swapped the band out for one I like better and have enjoyed it for a long time now. It's reliable, fun to customize, useful on bike rides, swimming, etc. The display is always on and I even kind of like the look.

I am an Apple fan, and the Apple watch is definitely intriguing, but I really hope that Pebble sticks around. Their product is a good fit as it:

  • Is reasonably priced (now $99 for the basic)
  • Has LONG battery life
  • Is WATERPROOF!!

I can't believe the 1st gen Apple Watch isn't going to be waterproof. That might be my biggest con so far. Pebble managed it. As a friend of mine also commented, cheap Casios and lots of other watches (even with crowns, buttons, and dials) all do it. I am in the ocean, pools etc. all the time, and having to take my watch off and find a safe dry place for it each time I jump in? I hope Apple fixes that soon.

Anyway- I am excited to see the Apple watch, but kudos to Pebble for striking out and putting a good (if basic) smartwatch on the map that works with iOS. They had a big hill to climb and have come up with something pretty cool. I hope they keep at it.

Mackinjosh is probably referring to the Mac and PC ads from 10 years ago. Terrible comparison as the PC had 90% marketshare vs. Mac's 10% back then but the Apple Watch currently has 0% marketshare and doesn't exist yet. Pebble is taking weird swipes with inside jokes at invisible competitors that don't compete yet.

"Relax, it's just a watch!"

...as they begin their quick fade into obscurity.

tl;dr - Pebble is screwed.

Hardly, Pebble is here today and in the hands of thousands of folk and is far more affordable. I don't see Pebble going away any time soon, especially not at their new price vs. Apple's $350, just like cheaper Android phones haven't gone away (and Pebble watches are cross-platform).

Will work out in the end for both pebble and Apple. Pebble gets some traction, free PR with sites such as this, and some online publications picking up on the ads and doing a story (free marketing for the new pebble). Apple doesn't loose much..in fact having a product attacked publicly even before its available for sale is suggestive of the kind of importance competitors are giving to the product. Seems that the competitors think the Apple watch is something to reckon with :). Ive and Co. can be relieved :)

PS - I agree, Apple has taken a different route to smart watches and wearables in general with the Apple watch. They have focused on style, design and catering to a fashion conscious market as opposed to a purely tech driven market. A different strategy to Pebble, Nike, Samsung, LG etc

I like my Pebble but what I saw in the marketing video for the Apple Watch they're right to be nervous. I was a Kickstarter backer for Pebble and I wore it constantly until their last software upgrade seems to drain my battery like a vampire. That and the screen on mine suffers from horrible Mura effect. If I have a dark background it's livable but with a light colored background it's virtually unreadable at certain angles. It's like someone spilled a quart of oil between the screen and the case. And forget trying to read it with polarized sunglasses. I sent them an email about it and basically got a reply back saying "they all do that". Their quality control was a bit lacking I think and I hope they got better with it but even at $99 it's a bit overpriced for the quality. Functionality was great though and I'm hoping another software upgrade will remedy the battery vampire issue. I will definitely give the Apple Watch a look when it comes out but battery life will definitely be a concern.

Haha Pebble is doomed. Even though Apple Watch costs hundreds of dollars more, it will take all sales from Pebble. Pebble should know that nobody cares about low priced alternatives. How pathetic of Pebble to position it's product that way.

Fanboys, yeesh.
